Cheltenham
Arts & Culture Experience
The beautifully designed Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham has been putting on a wide range of productions since 1891. It provides an intimate setting in ornate surroundings where you can enjoy your favourite actors and performances. Set in the centre of the regency town it is an important landmark with beautiful architecture both inside and out. What is better than immersing yourself in another world for a few hours as magical stories unfold on the stage before you.
Famous award-winning artists and incredible new talent are showcased on the stage, with performances including ballet, opera, drama, dance, comedy, music, and the traditional family pantomime. Alongside their diary of entertaining live productions, the Everyman Theatre also screens new indie releases as part of the International Film Festival.
They do fabulous work in the community and it is very much a cultural meeting spot. The theatre runs community choirs, youth theatre sessions and a professional development programme. A group gathers for knitting as part of their ‘Casting-on’ project where members knit soft toys for children. It was created to boost wellbeing and companionship amongst locals and benefits a number of good causes. There is also a schedule of workshops available for aspiring writers, actors and dancers over the age of 60.
The Everyman Theatre has options for a pre-show meal from lunch, afternoon tea through to an evening dinner. The café bar serves a lunch menu of sandwiches and traditional hot meals, drinks and cakes. For a more formal setting the Matchams restaurant serves three course meals. They are also able to accommodate private events in the director’s lounge so you can celebrate a special occasion.
While you are staying in the Cotswolds be sure to check their What’s On guide and enjoy a culturally diverse day in Cheltenham. Visit the surrounding shops before the show and pop into town for a drink in the evening.
