March is a delightful time in the Cotswolds. Gardens are blooming with spring flowers and fluffy lambs are bouncing around the fields. The villages are slowly awakening from their winter slumber. It’s also a time of excitement as the Regency town of Cheltenham bursts into life. During the third week in March the Cheltenham Festival arrives. The Festival™ is one of the most popular racing events in the year and takes place at the beautiful Cheltenham Racecourse, which sits surrounded by the Cotswold hills on the edge of the town. Stay in some fantastic accommodation close-by, mix with the great and good of the racing elite, celebrities and royalty. You could maybe have a little flutter – the atmosphere is unbeatable.
For those with a need to feel the wind in their hair why not challenge yourself to the Cotswold Cross. This cycling event traverses the quiet roads, lanes and bridleways in the valleys and villages of the southern Cotswolds, and you can choose between 35, 55 or the 75km trail.
If your idea of heaven however is a peaceful March break, then the Cotswolds also delivers this in abundance. It’s a quiet and calm time to explore the pretty villages, welcoming pubs, and enjoy wonderful walks through the beautiful countryside which is bursting with spring flowers and wildlife.
