Holiday cottages for June
Burst into summer in the Cotswolds with festivals, flowers and cultural events in abundance
June is a fantastic time of year to visit the Cotswolds. The mercury is finally rising, the days are warm and sunny and there are lots of events on to enjoy. It’s also a time when visitor numbers are still manageable before the schools break up for the long summer holiday.
Horticulturalists can discover the magnificent displays in gardens such as Highgrove, Hidcote, Bourton House and Cerney House. Or head to Cotswold Lavender near Broadway. For a few short weeks, from the middle of June, the surrounding fields are covered in a haze of scented purple flowers. June is also the perfect time to explore the rolling Cotswold countryside with bike rides and footpath rambles. Perhaps with a refreshing drink in a sunny pub garden as a reward for your efforts.
If you love live music, then Forest Live at Westonbirt Arboretum is a magical experience. Big-name artists come to perform amongst the trees during the summer months. The Wychwood Festival, held at Cheltenham Racecourse combines circus skills, a beer festival and music. Other fabulous festivals include the Cheltenham Science Festival. Perfect for children (and adults) who are always asking the question ‘why’. The always impressive and always popular Longborough Festival Opera season opens as does Giffords Circus touring calendar.
This is the time of year when open-air cinemas pop up in wonderful outdoor settings and you can enjoy a number of alfresco theatre performances. These are usually held in impressive spots, with past locations including Broadway Tower and Painswick Rococo Gardens.
June is the time for relaxing adventures when it’s still easy to get a table in that much-talked-about restaurant. You can browse bustling farmer’s markets and your leisure and enjoy time at popular attractions before the summer holiday crowds arrive.
