Holiday cottages for June

Burst into summer in the Cotswolds with festivals, flowers and cultural events in abundance

June is a fantastic time to visit the Cotswolds, with the mercury finally rising, lots of events on, flowers in full bloom in every garden – from Kiftsgate in the north to Newark Park in the south – and visitor numbers still manageable before the schools break up for their long summer holiday.

If you love live music, you have plenty of choice. Head to Forest Live to hear Rag’n’bone Man, Keane, Madness and Texas who are all playing at the Westonbirt Arboretum. Or opt for nearby Nocturne Live at Blenheim Palace where Simply Red, David Gray, UB40 and Simple Minds are playing over the four-day festival. For music of a classical nature, take your seat at the Longborough Festival Opera.

June is also the month when Cotswold Lavender near Broadway will be covered with a haze of purple flowers. It’s a great time to pack up a picnic and head out for a ramble or bike ride across the Cotswold countryside. Or perhaps you’d like to watch the alternative sport of shin-kicking at the Cotswold Olimpick Games?

For those who would like something a little more ‘right brain’, here are three things for you to see and do in June: the phantasmagorical Giffords Circus, the world-famous Cheltenham Science Festival, and Kite at Kirtlington Park, Oxford, which is a new festival combining breakthrough ideas, music, and discussions with writers, performers and leading public figures.

With so much going on, choose a cottage that offers a slice of relaxation and comfort.
