A peaceful village with a few surprises
Pretty Kingham is a delightful Cotswold village sitting in the broad Evenlode Valley. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, it is a picture-perfect setting. Filled with elegant Cotswold stone houses, surrounding a timeless village green, Kingham is a charming and characterful place from which to explore. Although many of the buildings date to the 17th and 18th centuries, Kingham’s roots date back to the 11th century. It even warrants a mention in the 1086 Doomsday Book.
This thriving village has everything you need, supporting a local shop and two superb pubs. There are multiple walking and cycling routes and it sits on the River Evenlode. This gives multiple opportunities for fishing and canoeing. It’s possible to follow the river all the way to Stow-on-the-Wold. Nearby attractions include Adam Henson’s Cotswold Farm Park, a much-loved rare breed farm, and Daylesford Organics – a fabulous farm shop, homeware, wellness, and dining destination all rolled into one.
The jewels in the Kingham Crown are however it’s not one, but two excellent pubs. The Kingham Plough has long been popular for its excellent food. Located on the green this pub is known for elegant pub classics, well-kept ales and a warm welcome. The Wild Rabbit is part of the Daylesford group and offers an elegant menu that is centred around the organic produce from Daylesford’s market garden.
Kingham is also home to the annual Big Feastival. A fabulous celebration of food and music, all served up on former Blur bassist Alex James’ farm. It’s a wonderful, family-friendly event.
