Cheltenham Science Festival
Cheltenham
Events Experience
Month: June
The Cheltenham Science Festival brings together scientists and futurologists to inspire and make sense of the world around us. It is especially perfect for children (and adults) who are always asking the question ‘why’. Guest curators and past speakers include Professor Brian Cox, Robert Winston, and Alice Roberts.
The festival celebrated its 21st birthday this year with 138 events hosted by 270 of the best scientists, thinkers, writers, and creators. It is an event that promises and indeed delivers something for every curious mind, of every age. The themes that enter the conversation range from the every day to the out-of-this-world. They include gender; mental health; disaster response; politics; faith; climate change and even football! The topics are particularly diverse and span art and design, social sciences, psychology, and neuroscience. Chemistry, engineering, entertainment, the environment, history, current affairs, technology, food, sport, space, and the universe. The themes and programmes are specifically designed to spark curiosity and inspire the minds of all who attend. Whilst aimed at all age groups the Cheltenham Science Festival is also exceptionally family-friendly. It is the perfect place to try your hand at cryptic and creative challenges in a fun, family-friendly and colourful environment.
Events take place across venues in and around Cheltenham‘s Imperial Square, including Cheltenham Town Hall and the Festival’s free Apollo Stage. Cheltenham Science Festival also features three Interactive Zones. This is where visitors can get hands-on with science and The Week Junior’s Science and Nature Trail across the site. There are also free Friday Night Late sessions for over-18s with activities available including learning to code a robot, an opportunity to be immersed in interactive science and an arcade with games of the past, present and future. Additionally, VOICEBOX is a platform where young people can share, discuss and debate topics. Add your voice to the conversation in a safe and relaxed space.
