Gorgeous home

Verified Up Front Reviews
We had the most wonderful stay at Otmoor House for my 30th birthday. The place is even more beautiful than the photos and for a place that is only an hour or so from London, it is so peaceful and serene. The hosts were absolutely amazing as well - so helpful and very quick to respond! I would absolutely stay here again

Otmoor House

Verified Up Front Reviews
This cottage is in a very peaceful and beautiful location surrounded by farmland as far as the eye can see. Everything was spotlessly clean and tidy. The kitchen/diner is particularly spacious and was well equipped. The beds were very comfortable with lovely crisp quality white linen and towels. John (the host) welcomed us personally and reacted quickly to any queries we had. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Otmoor House and would happily return again.

Wonderful stay at Otmoor House

Verified Up Front Reviews
We really enjoyed our stay. Making the reservation using the Bolthole retreat website was very easy and information about the house and surrounding area was easily accessed online or in the information folder provided at the house. The location is fantastic - just a short walk down to the RSPB sanctuary and with wonderful views over the fields. It is quite isolated and peaceful which is exactly what we wanted. However you can easily walk to the village, about half a mile or so away. The house itself is beautiful with comfortable beds and modern kitchen and bathroom fixtures and appliances. The wifi has a very good signal. Communication with the owner was very good - for example the leg broke on one of the outside chairs and he came around and replaced it right away. The weather was very hot while we were there and the bedrooms were quite warm at night. But with the windows open it was reasonable. The owners left us quite a few treats (cookies, wine, coffee etc) which was very nice of them. I highly recommend Otmoor house and will certainly consider renting from Bolthole retreats in the future.

Spring Break, 2026!

Verified Up Front Reviews
Our three generation family had a wonderful time staying at Otmoor Farm House. The warm welcome from the owners, the opportunity to stay for a week outside an English village, the proximity to Oxford, and the wonderful Abingdon Pub in nearby Beckley made for a most pleasant time for this American family. Who needs Hawaii or the Caribbean for spring break when you can have Otmoor??? The house was so well appointed and comfortable and the kitchen had great appliances and an atmosphere that allowed us to linger at the table after meals. The bedrooms while small, were inviting with terrific bedding and each room had a view of the countryside. And, we were very pleased at the amenities of the three bathrooms. We are recommending Bolthole to any of our friends indicating a desire to travel to England. Like us, I know they won't be disappointed.

Wendy

If you are looking for the quintessential English countryside retreat, look no further. Otmoor House was cozy, comfortable, and very peaceful. The kitchen has everything you would want or need and all the bedrooms were warm and comfortable. The house is completely surrounded by fields full of pheasants, deer, rabbits, and birds that sing the most beautiful songs. The hosts are friendly and communicative and the location is within easy driving distance to Oxford, the Cotswolds, and Blenheim Palace. There are plenty of pubs that are within 10-20 minutes drive. The only issue we had was that we wished we could have stayed longer. We highly recommend!

Canadians revisiting Oxford

Verified Up Front Reviews
We spent a few weeks at this lovely cottage to escape our Canadian winter and re-discover Oxford and the surrounding ‘shires’. The location of Otmoor House was perfect for us - provided peace and quiet as well as easy travel times to the city, London by train and the Cotswolds for exploring and walking. Numerous National Trust estates within 45 minutes including wonderful Blenheim Palace and Woodstock. The house is very well equipped and the photos are accurate. We particularly appreciated the responsiveness and service of the owners who live on the property next door. Questions answered and immediate ‘fix’ if anything was needed. We also discovered Ocado - grocery delivery. Excellent! Right to the door. Thankyou.

Jane

Thank you for a lovely stay. The property is as described, very clean and homely décor. The instructions for check in were very clear. Surrounding area is very picturesque.

Fantastic house

Verified Up Front Reviews
The house is really beautiful, the grounds also are lovely, lots of space. It is pretty far from the village, a solid 15 minute walk. And the village is tiny. But if you are looking for somewhere off the beaten track then this is it.

Tamasyn

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us on your recent stay at Otmoor House. We’re very glad to hear that you liked the property. Regarding your comments about the distance from the village and its size, on our website we note that the village is 1 mile away and has a local pub, with the nearest shop being 3 miles from the property. We hope to see you in the area again soon.

Sunny days , chilly morning walks with the pheasants and sheep. Beautifully decorated house, I need the name of their interior designer. Peaceful setting. Oxford day trips- punting, walking tour and botanical gardens. Much fun. Returning to our cottage for a cup of tea on the patio was a real pleasure.

Sally

Beautiful place! Surrounded by fields. The house itself is modern with an appearance of an old house. Spacious rooms, well-equipped kitchen. We received help from the owners when we arrived late. Amazing experience. We loved everything.

Sofia

Our family had a fantastic stay and really enjoyed the nature that this lovely home had to offer. So quiet and peaceful and yet so close to Oxford and great sites and activities. Would highly recommend.

Ben

A beautiful and peaceful retreat only 10 minutes from Oxford. House is beautifully finished, very comfortable and surrounded by lovely landscape. We watched sheep, hares, rabbits and even a deer coming into the garden. Perfect place for family gatherings.

Justin

Otmoor House is a must stay!

Verified Up Front Reviews
We had an absolutely lovely stay at this property! The grounds are beautiful and peaceful near the Otmoor Reserve in late May--think wildflowers, bird watching, green wetlands, cattle, deer, muntjac, pheasant, and hares. Pastoral countryside at its best. The farmhouse was just as lovely. Every room was so well appointed and comfortable, and suited our family of 5 perfectly. John and Jo are inviting and communicative hosts, even providing us with some special treats to eat and drink upon arrival. My husband is still talking about how much he enjoyed staying here. We would go back in a heartbeat. Highly, highly recommended!!

The highest standards

Verified Up Front Reviews
Otmoor house has been recently refurbished , decorated and furnished to the highest standards of any of the self catered accommodation we have ever stayed at in the UK. The setting and nearby village (including pub) are also beautiful. The beds are very large and extremely comfortable. What more can I say? I can find no fault !

Martin

Lovely house in quiet location

This was probably the most perfect place we have stayed. The location was idyllic and peaceful and close enough to explore Oxford. The house itselfhad the most amazing finish with an extremely high quality interior. Quite frankly, this would be my perfect home!! Thank you for an amazing stay-we will be back!!!

A weekend away

Verified Up Front Reviews
Such a wonderful weekend away at Otmoor house. The location was perfect, remote and quiet with lovely walks from the doorstep. The house was beautiful inside with everything you needed, and very comfortable for all of us staying there! The Talkhouse in Stanton St.John did a very good Sunday lunch, and would definitely recommend!

Lovely Weekend Stay

A Dreamy Country Christmas

Verified Up Front Reviews
We couldn't have asked for a more ideal cottage in which to spend Christmas with our families. We were 3 couples in the house and the set-up was perfect. The kitchen was a great social area when meals were being prepared and cleaned-up and the living room was a wonderfully cozy nook in which to crowd around the fire with books and crosswords. Everything we needed was there. The location was well suited for getting away from the craziness of life. A little bit of a drive to get more firewood or butter, but just a short walk from the lovely Abingdon Arms pub. The remoteness of the cottage and its location at the edge of the RSPB sanctuary meant plenty of options for muddy walks, bird-spotting, and stargazing. It was a cozy hideaway for a lovely festive season and am sure it is even more delightful in the mostly sunny Summer months. A very helpful book of local tips and recommendations was provided on site (as well as on the booking page ahead of time). Our hosts were incredibly welcoming and quick to reply to any questions that came up.

Country luxury

Otmoor House has been beautifully renovated. It’s in an enviable position overlooking nothing but fields and wetlands. If you are looking for a retreat that is peaceful, well equipped and a touch of country elegance then this is the place for you. It’s equipped with everything you could wish for and close to Oxford and its surrounding attractions plus John and Jo are perfect hosts.

Can’t wait to return!

Verified Up Front Reviews
We absolutely fell in love with Otmoor house, and found it very hard to leave. Not only does it provide you with the tranquility of the area and beautiful views, but a lot of effort has been spent on the interior decor with so much attention paid to every detail. It was a real treat living in the cottage, and cannot recommend it enough! Our hosts were absolutely lovely and incredibly helpful. There is a lovely walking route starting at the door, around the fields and RSPB reserve where you could do bird watching at the bird hideout over the moor, taking you back up through a forest to the local village where we’ve enjoyed lunch at the local pub which has a spectacular outdoor space with views over the hills. There is a local farm shop where you could PYO fruits, veg and flowers and other lovely local produce. We can’t wait to return soon, a true gem!

Amazing farm stay near Oxford

Otmoor House was just amazing . A perfect place to experience farm stay near Oxford . Fresh air , modern living home away from home . Host Jo and John were absolutely lovely and made our stay even more pleasant . Will definitely be back . It’s only 25 mins from Oxford and Bicester and 55 mins to Daylesford farm and Bourton on water

An idyllic retreat in stunning countryside, but also only 20 mins for Oxford

Verified Up Front Reviews
We had a fantastic holiday at Otmoor House, the house was spotless, beds were hotel standard and you could get lost in the exceptional view. The views of the filling countryside and wetlands made for a stunning backdrop best placed in a national geographic photo shoot!! The local farm shop, pick your own and even the historic city of Oxford were all close by, so we were never short of things to do. The owners/hosts were so welcoming and accommodating it felt like we were family!! The only downside we had was not staying longer, so would recommend to anyone looking for an idyllic escape from their busy world and looking to unplug for a week or two (don’t worry there was very good WiFi!!)

Duncan

We now declare Otmoor House open!

Verified Up Front Reviews
It really is as good as it looks in the photos. Superb, quality furnishings throughout. Wonderfully quiet. Amazing, isolated location with fantastic views. What you can't see on the photos are the lovely hosts, John and Jo, who looked after us so well. Apparently, we were the first occupants and we were very privileged to be so. Thanks for a wonderful stay!
