Start the new year in style with a day at the races. The New Year’s Day Racing at Cheltenham is a hugely popular day in the racing calendar. It is a sociable and fun day, yet still retains that all-important competitive buzz.
Set within a bowl of hills on the outskirts of the Regency town of Cheltenham Spa, this is undoubtedly a day to blow the cobwebs away. Wrap up warm against the icy wind that often blows and enjoy a day, under what are usually beautifully clear blue skies. It’s a great friends and family day out, and those under 18 can come for free. There is also a whole host of free, family entertainment.
Expect seven highly competitive races across the day, with enough action to clear even the most over-indulged of heads. After the racing head to The Centaur for live music. You’ll also find live entertainment in the Guinness Village too. If you’ve booked tickets in the Tattersalls/Club Enclosure, then you’ll have access to the Family Fun Zone for your younger racegoers. The Fun Zone includes comedy, circus acts, arts and crafts, face painting and bouncy castles.
Although some tickets can be purchased on the day for races the New Year’s Day Racing is usually a sell-out. Due to its popularity, you should certainly book well in advance. There are three enclosures to choose from. Plus, a range of hospitality opportunities and private boxes, should you be looking for something special. However, no matter what you choose you will enjoy a fabulous array of food and drink options along with wonderful views over the beautiful racecourse and the rolling hills beyond.
