Overview
Barebones Farm is at the heart of Winchcombe, one of the Cotswolds most popular walking towns, also famed for Sudeley Castle. The house was originally built in 1685 as a two-up-two-down home, with additional bedrooms, bathrooms, the kitchen and conservatory added in 1900 and 2008. Originally a small dairy farm, this handsome Cotswold stone property is now a spacious, wonderfully welcoming holiday home, with a lovely landscaped garden, large patio and plenty of parking to the side of the house.
The front door of the property is on North Street, a principal but quiet Winchcombe street. Guests can enter the property through the front door, or walk round to the side, through the private parking area and across the patio and in via the conservatory’s French doors. The width of the rear of the house looks over a large, beautifully planted and landscaped garden with fruit trees and herbaceous borders.
Barebones Farm is a 7-bedroom home with the perfect combination of character features - exposed beams and timbers, stone walls and an inglenook fireplace – and modern facilities, including a fully equipped kitchen, beautiful open-plan conservatory and en-suite bath and shower rooms.
Bought in 1995 by the current owners, the Stranks family, after it had lain empty for 15 years, extensive renovations were carried out, lasting almost two years. Most of the walls and floors were replaced, at one point standing in the cellar you could look up and see the sky! What is now the dining room was originally the kitchen and breakfast room - the original kitchen sink window was kept and now provides light through from the conservatory to the dining room. The 17th Century house was a 2-up-2-down home that is at the centre of today’s property, consisting of what is now the snug, the ground floor bedroom and the staircase up to today’s Bedroom 2 and Bedroom 4. The Victorian owners added the entrance hallway, what is now the TV room (this used to be the milking shed), Bedroom 3 and the Jack & Jill bathroom. In 2008, the Stranks added the conservatory, updated the kitchen, added the downstairs cloakroom and ground floor en-suite, Bedroom 1 and the family bathroom.
Ground Floor
Entrance Hallway:Guests enter Barebones Farm through the front door, slightly to the left of the main house (an addition made during the Victorian era), and into the entrance hall. Here you’ll find a handy hallway with original flagstone flooring and plenty of hooks to hang coats. It’s the perfect place to shug off boots and shoes while sitting on the settle.
TV Room:
Immediately to the left is the TV Room, a room with wow factor, with its deep claret-coloured walls and minstrels’ gallery. In Victorian times, this is where the farm’s cows would come in to be milked. During the restoration work, the current owners found several milking stalls and had to dig down deep to get to the floor. This impressive room now features a sink-in corner sofa and two comfy armchairs, a wide-screen Smart TV with Blu-Ray surround-sound system, making an evening’s cinema-style viewing complete. In addition, there is a large games cupboard with a huge selection of games, DVDs and dressing up clothes. (Please note: the minstrels’ gallery is decorative and not for guests use).
Dining Room:
The beautiful dining room features a long, wooden dining table with seating for 14 (plus 2 highchairs), a striking exposed stone wall, exposed beam and terracotta floor tiles. The stone wall was the outer wall of the original 17th Century house before the addition of the dining room during the Victorian era. A window looking through to the Conservatory provides a pretty feature and throws light into this fantastic entertaining room.
Kitchen:
The large kitchen, overlooking the garden, is fully equipped to suit the most demanding of cooks, with a full complement of appliances and cookware. At the centre of the kitchen is a granite-top island with bar-style seating for three – the perfect place to sip a glass of wine and chat while the cooks prepare a meal. The kitchen features underfloor heating, a Rangemaster double oven and grill with a 6-ring hob, plenty of oak storage units housing a microwave, utensils, crockery, cutlery, glassware (champagne flutes, tumblers and wine and water glasses) a cafetière, bakeware, and food preparation equipment (saucepans, grater, jug, sieve, whisk, hand blender) and serving dishes. On the surrounding polished granite surfaces you’ll find a toaster, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine (starter pods provided), knife set and bread bin. The kitchen has a Bosch dishwasher and large Samsung fridge-freezer. The owners leave a selection of store-cupboard items including salt, pepper, herbs, spices, oil and vinegar (please feel free to use them, contents may vary). Nespresso coffee pods, tea bags, instant coffee, sugar, kitchen roll and foil are all provided. Feel free to pick the fresh herbs growing in the garden, including chives, rosemary, bay leaves, thyme and oregano.
Conservatory:
The large, open-plan conservatory adjoining the kitchen becomes the hub of many guests’ stay here. With its view out to the patio and garden and sink-in sofa seating, with plenty of room to pull in more chairs and cushions, you will quickly appreciate why it’s Barebones Farm’s top place to relax and hang out. The cream and fern-green colour scheme make it feel like this room is an extension of the garden. In the warmer months, the windows can be opened to allow a breeze through from the garden, while in the winter the polished limestone flooring’s underfloor heating produces a cosy environment to watch the outdoor winter scene unfold.
Cloakroom & Utility Area:
Off the kitchen end of the dining room is a door leading to a short corridor with a cupboard storing a Zanussi washing machine and Zanussi dryer, an iron, ironing board, clothes airer and housekeeping items. (A rotary washing line can be found in the garden.) The corridor leads to the downstairs cloakroom with a toilet and sink.
Snug:
From the dining room, head back towards the front of Barebones Farm into the original 17th Century part of the building through a low stone doorway (mind your head!) and into the Snug, with its feature stone walls, pretty bay window and inglenook fireplace. Here you can snuggle up with a book, relax or plan a walk sitting in a comfy armchair or on the sink-in sofa. A wide selection of books and maps are provided for guests to use during their stay. (Wood and kindling for two fires, plus full lighting instructions are provided; extra wood may be purchased from the owners.)
Ground Floor Bedroom:
The spacious ground floor en-suite bedroom, which was half of the downstairs part of the original 17th Century farmstead, features a zip-n-link super king-size bed (can be set up as a twin), a pretty bay window with two comfy chairs and the original inglenook fireplace (the fireplace is now for decorative purposes only). A large built-in hanging cupboard and bedside table provide plenty of space to store clothes and personal items. The en-suite bathroom has a large walk-in shower with a sliding door, a ‘comfort height’ sink and toilet and heated towel rail. Thanks to the en-suite’s wide doorway and accessible wet room, the downstairs bedroom is perfect for guests with reduced mobility.
First Floor
Bedroom One – Master Bedroom with ensuite bathroom:At the rear of the house is the spacious master en-suite bedroom, which was added by the current owners in 2008. It features a super king-size bed (can be set up as a twin) and a dramatically high, beamed ceiling. This dual-aspect bedroom has a fantastic view over the pretty, quarter-acre landscaped garden, and is furnished with a 4-door cupboard, dressing table with mirror and bedside tables with reading lamps. The en-suite has a large walk-in, corner shower unit, toilet, sink and heated towel rail.
Family Shower Room:
The spacious family shower room, with its refreshing chalky blue colourway, features a wet-room with a super-size overhead shower and handheld shower. A toilet, sink and large heated towel rail complete the facilities.
Bedroom Two:
This cosy, king-size double bedroom, decorated with rich red fabrics, looks out over the front of the house across to other residences on North Street. It features a sink-in king size double, a 3-door hanging cupboard, a large chest of drawers, bedside tables with reading lamps and a pretty wooden rocking chair. Guests in Bedroom 2 use the adjacent family shower room.
Bedroom Three:
This bright and airy king-size double bedroom, with floral and duck egg blue accents, was added in the 1900s. It features a pretty, brass bedstead and lovely views over the patio and landscaped garden. Furnished with a dressing table and mirror, a chest of drawers, a 3-door hanging cupboard and bedside table with reading lamp, this restful room leads through to a Jack & Jill bathroom shared with Bedroom Four.
Jack & Jill Bathroom:
A Victorian addition, this inviting bathroom, with a separate door to Bedroom 3 and Bedroom 4, features a full-size roll top bath, polished oak floorboards and white, half-wall panelling offset by the deep cornflower blue walls. A toilet, sink, and electric corner shower complete the bathroom facilities.
Bedroom Four:
This twin bedroom is entered from the main landing along a passageway past Bedroom 3. It is one of the two original, 17th Century upstairs rooms, which also has access to the Jack & Jill bathroom. The central chimney breast (rising up from the Snug) that forms a wide, ornate shelf behind the two single beds, and the exposed beams give this front aspect, twin room lots of character. It is furnished with a hanging cupboard, chest of drawers and central bedside table with reading lamp.
(Please note, when the fireplace is in use in the Snug, there is very occasionally a smoky smell in this bedroom. For this reason, there is a carbon monoxide detector in this room).
Second Floor
Bedroom Five:At the top of the stairs turn right into the first of the attic’s two twin bedrooms, furnished with two single beds, a small hanging cupboard with drawers and a central bedside table with a reading lamp. Two dormer windows provide lots of light and a great view out over the ancient rooftops of Winchcombe. Blinds are fitted to ensure a good night’s sleep. Please note that the ceiling is low above both beds.
Bedroom Six:
The last bedroom of the house, the attic’s second twin bedroom, furnished with two single beds, a chest of drawers and a central bedside table with a reading lamp. Two dormer windows provide lots of light and the same interesting view out over the ancient rooftops of Winchcombe. Both the windows have blinds to ensure a good night’s sleep. Please note that the ceiling is low above both beds.
Outside
Barebones Farm has a very attractive quarter acre, landscaped garden with a large central lawn, mature fruit trees and herbaceous borders. It is perfect for rolling out a blanket and lazing in the sunshine or reading in the shade of the fruit trees, for children to play on, and for dogs to frolic on the grass. Adjoining the conservatory is a wide patio area with a large table seating 12 with additional bistro tables which can extend seating to 14 and plenty of space for outdoor entertaining. A charcoal BBQ is provided for guests to use. To the side of the patio is a gravel parking area with space for four to five cars.Facilities

Barebones Farm was exactly as described. The property was immaculate and accommodated our large group perfectly. The garden was beautiful and an added bonus. We were able to leave the cars parked all weekend and walked everywhere. The castle was well worth a visit and the Winchcombe Indian Restaurant was fabulous too.

Family get together

Splendid property, ideally located for the town of Winchcombe. Spacious and very well equipped including games and a huge selection of dvds! The garden is immaculate, dog friendly and secure.
Being greeted by the owner was pleasing and we would happily stay there again.

Wonderful house right in Winchcombe. We had a lovely long weekend with 14 people easily accommodated in the well appointed Barebones Farm. Great location to explore Sudeley Castle, the wonderful local walks and the Cotswolds
Claire
Wonderful stay. Immediately relaxing. New memories at Sudeley. Countryside calm. Heatwave at the lido. Curry on the terrace. Outstanding house. Morning dog walks. Ball games in the garden. End came too soon.

Perfect location for a group gathering

Plenty of space. Beautiful garden. Well stocked kitchen. Cosy snug. Lots of bathrooms. Sunny conservatory. Parking for 5 cars.
Whilst the attic rooms are better suited for children the other 5 bedrooms are all very comfortable indeed.
Sue
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Barebones Farm. The house is absolutely stunning with plenty of room for us to cook, eat and relax together. The location is perfect and so close to the town and shops. We were amazed by the white squirrel! We highly recommend this house to other families/groups of friends. I hope we will stay again in the future. Thank you!

A 40th birthday celebration

11 family members aged 6 to 67 gathered at Barebones farm for a 40th birthday celebration. The farm provided great accommodation and was well equipped according to the chef. The wine and biscuits provided were much appreciated. The position in the village was great and the parking easily took our 4 cars. We would certainly consider booking Batebones again for a celebration.
Chris
Stunning well equipped property

Beautiful property right in the centre of town with plenty of restaurants cafes and pubs all around.
Wonderfully equipped with everything needed and everything thought of including high chairs and cots
Property was nicely heated throughout our stay

Cant recommend enough and would definitely return
Mike
A fabulous stay

It was a great stay for 10 single adults as there were plenty of beds (4 singles in the attic) and a generous dining table.
The conservatory just off the kitchen was a lovely location to congregate and enjoy the view on to the beautiful garden.
The owners were nearby and very responsive and friendly. There was plenty of cooking paraphernalia and crockery.
Beds were very comfortable and bed linen was high quality.
It was great and much appreciated that the house was warmed up in anticipation of our winter weekend stay (our experience over 20 years is that this is rarely the case)
Elaine

Excellent stay for wedding

We booked this place for extended family attending a Sudeley Castle wedding, and it turned out to be everything we hoped for and more.
There was sufficient space, beds and bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate all guests. Everything was immaculate, clean, and ready for use. One of the guests remarked repeatedly in awe how well stocked the kitchen was. We hosted the eight brides maids before the wedding in the morning when they got hair and make up done. The sunroom and adjacent dining room with the open kitchen created a wonderful party space for all to hang out together during this special event, while the bride parents and other guests enjoyed the excited chatter and happening from the adjacent patio. We loved the patio and garden, which gave us a feeling of true privacy and retreat, and was perfect for enjoying morning coffees, and a glass of wine in the evening. The bedrooms on the first floor allowed each couple to have their own or ensuite bathroom, which was also very appreciated when staying with lots of people. There was a little drive-way which allowed us to pull our cars in from the street.
Location was great for our needs: The property is only a few minutes either way for pastries and other bakery delicacies down the same road, getting the champagne for bridal shenanigans from the Coop around the corner, or lunch at one of the outstanding pubs down the road. We also found great gifts in the many stores along the road, like the museum store, and one of the wedding guests actually got her dress from one of the second hand stores.
No matter the purpose of your stay, you will enjoy Barebones Farm.

A wonderful Cotswolds village house for large family or group of friends

We booked Barebones Farm for a family gathering (13 adults) and could not be more pleased. A lovely location in a great village (everything in walking distance including some nice pubs, shops, a supermarket and a convenience store - even a castle).
The house itself has plenty of room inside and out, a good number of bedrooms and bathrooms, plus a large dining table we could all sit at together. The bedrooms and the communal rooms were a great size, the kitchen (and the house generally) well equipped.
Lots of nice personal touches (felt more like we were staying in a home) and good quality fixtures and fittings.
Decent parking for 4 (or 5) cars and a beautiful garden.
Michael
We absolutely loved staying here! The home was the perfect size for our group of 13. Fully stocked kitchen, beds for everyone, absolutely gorgeous yard, beautiful town with delicious restaurants within walking distance and 25 minute drive from Bourton on the Water. Perfect location!
Keri
Wonderful for our family of 11.

The house was just right for our extended family with 7 bedrooms and alot of living space including 2 small rooms for games/ TV and quietness.
The house is rustic with furniture to match but all very comfortable.
The garden was great for all if us with plenty of seating and space for games. The neighbours were great when balls etc accidentally went over the fences!
My only negative comment would be the cost at nearly £1000 per night which I thought was excessive even though it is a large house and garden.
Pauline

Amazing memories

We had the most amazing stay at Barebones. Its location was fabulous and the facilities were excellent. We were lucky with the weather and made the most of outside as the garden was just gorgeous, someone spends time and love there. There were lots of areas/rooms within the house if you wanted to be separate from a large group staying, but fortunately we all liked one another and used the large tables and seating provided. Thank you for your home to make our family wedding the most special time. ?

A wonderful weekend

We stayed at Barebones Farm for a long weekend in April to celebrate my birthday, two families and two dogs , we had a wonderful time. Winchcombe is a lovely village , plenty to see and do & lovely walks to be had. We were lucky to have beautiful weather & were able to take advantage of the wonderful garden, full of spring flowers and plenty of chairs and tables for the 9 of us. The conservatory & dining area are perfect for get togethers and celebrations. And the kitchen is fully equipped for the most discerning chefs & bakers should you be lucky enough to have one in your party ! The bedrooms are lovely, with comfortable beds and spacious bathrooms, everywhere was spotless. Communication with the owner was perfect as was their lovely house, I wouldnt hesitate to recommend and would love to come back , Christmas in the Cotswolds perhaps ? Thank you for a wonderful stay.

A wonderful stay at Barebones Farm

We had the most amazing short break at Barebones Farm with our extended family. The property is very spacious but still cosy, the owners have thought of everything. The kitchen and bathrooms are all lovely and the house spotless. The weather whilst we were there was dreadful but it just meant we spent more time in this fabulous house which was such a treat .

Perfect Venue for a Family Get together

Barebones Farm is spacious and well equipped.
The beds are comfortable and all showers are powerful and hot.
The location is excellent for walking, we did not need to use our cars at all other than to drive to Cheltenham Park Run.
We were lucky with the weather but there is a well stocked games cupboard and dvd collection in case of rainy days.
We would definitely consider going again.
Pauline
Barebones

Barebones revisited

We had another excellent weekend at Barebones meeting with friends we have known for many decades. Such a lovely house, village and area. We will certainly be back!

Family & friends for birthday celebrations

Excellent property, good places to eat close by. We took our 2 small dogs as dogs were allowed. My only reservation about this property is that dogs are allowed but it is not dog friendly although the garden is secure.
Sue
Thank you for taking the time to write a review for your recent stay at Barebones Farm. We are pleased to hear you had a brilliant stay and enjoyed the local area. I can confirm that Barebones Farm is pet friendly and welcomes up to two dogs.

Lovely place to stay

The house was amazing and enabled my family to be together and enjoy my graandsons wedding. Would have been great to have longer. The gardan and wildlife added to the amazing stay

Exceptional Accommodation

An exceptionally well equipped, clean and comfortable home. Our 4th visit and the house was as fresh and clean as we found it the first time. The garden is very private and a lovely safe space for children to play in. The location is so convenient for a short walk to a children's playground, and all other village amenities. Perfect for a large family group to relax and enjoy time together, with no need to go beyond Winchcombe. .
Margot
An excellent stay for my daughters wedding at Sudeley castle

We came to stay at Barebones farm as it was my daughters wedding and we needed a place large enough for all the family plus a few of the bridesmaids! We had an excellent stay. The house was beautifully clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed the bright conservatory room as a place to sit and enjoy views of the fabulous large garden. Comfy beds with lovely bedding. The location is right in the heart of Winchcombe so easy walking to all the local shops and amenities and also to the castle. The hosts were very welcoming and allowed us early check in so we had enough time to prepare ourselves for the big day. I thoroughly recommend.

The perfect family break in the Cotswolds

Barebones farm is quite simply, perfect. 14 members of our family stayed for a weekend in August in 2024, and had a wonderful break thanks to the spacious living areas, comfortable beds, ample bathrooms, and all the facilities you'd require. The house is in the perfect location, a short walk from several pubs, restaurants and shops. Not only that, it is a 20/30 minute drive to all the attractions, including Bourton on the Water, and Stow on the Wold. However, what really made Barebones Farm incredible for us, was the garden, which is a wonderful size for dogs, and children alike to play in, while the huge outdoor seating area provided adults the perfect place to relax in the sun. Inside, there is a snug for teenagers to retreat to, and downstairs a double bedroom with an ensuite for elderly relatives to stay. On top of all this, Barebones Farm was extremely clean, well maintained, and had literally everything you could possibly think of in terms of kitchen equipment, BBQ, towels, washing machine, dryer, iron, you name it, it was there. Overall, Barebones gave us the feeling that we were staying at a friends home, rather than a rental property, and it instantly felt like we'd be visiting for years. If you're looking for a home in the Cotswolds to house a large group, look no further, Barebones Farm is about all good as it gets, and we will certainly be returning in the years to come.

Great multi family house

Barebones was exactly what we wanted for get together (3 families, 13 people from 4 to 76). It had enough combinations of beds for everyone and enough space to get away from each other when we needed! The children loved the space, the garden, the teddies and all the books and toys. Everything was spotless and there was enough of everything to not have to keep washing up. We appreciated the welcome drinks and biscuits and the way Liz kept in touch with us beforehand. It was just great.

Great stay

Barebones Farm was a great place to stay for our family get together - great accommodation and within walking distance of all amenities. Communication was good. Liz even messaged me about roadworks in the area to assist in our journey. The only minor thing was that the house was cold on arrival but it quickly warmed up when the radiators were turned on. Would definitely recommend

Great place for large groups

Great property to host a large group, with all the amenities provided and an excellent location in Winchcombe itself. The hosts also made everything incredible easy

New Year Break

We were a family group of 14 and had a great three days together celebrating New Year. The property was exactly as described and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. One of the best features was being able to sit all 14 of us around the dining table. It was in the centre of Winchcombe so ideal for local pubs and restaurants without having to use the car. I would definitely recommend.

The perfect spot for a family gathering

Our family Christmas at Barebones Farm was wonderful. The house is perfect for a large group. The extremely well equipped kitchen was ideal for preparing our Christmas meals and being in the center of Winchcombe meant we had plenty of choices for eating out too. The location is great with access to amazing walks right from our front door. I thoroughly recommend Barebones Farm.

Great place to stay!

This is our 3rd time at Barebones and it doesn't disappoint. Great location close to places to eat and shop.

First Rate Cotswolds Accommodations

Our large group stayed at Barebones Farm and were very pleased with the accommodations. Its a lovely property with a beautiful garden and well-appointed rooms. The conservatory was a particularly inviting place to relax. Our only regret was that our hectic schedule kept us from fully enjoying everything the property had to offer. Liz, the owner, was more than willing to satisfy our requests and bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed. I wouldnt hesitate to stay at BF again.
Steve
Excellent stay, lovely home

We had a very pleasant stay at the house and really enjoyed the open planned layout in a traditional building. The garden was a hit with the kids as well. Everything was clean and the bedrooms exceeded our expectations. The staff at Bolthole were also very responsive to any questions.

A pleasant weekend away

We stayed here Friday - Sunday and had a great weekend in this lovely cottage in a beautiful English town. Property was ideal for us as a small group of friends coming from all over South of England. Garden was immaculate and we spent most time here but the kitchen/dining area was also really impressive. Had everything we needed, loads of bathrooms and we could also have some time to ourselves when we needed it.
Would definitely recommend this cottage to others!

Cotswolds Paradise

Nothing was too much trouble from the host. The property is beautiful and perfect for our large party. The garden is perfect for relaxing in. Great location to explore the Cotswolds or stumble home from local pubs. All in all a brilliant weekend.

Just Fabulous.......

We booked this Property to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary with our Family.
It did not dissappoint. Bedrooms and bathrooms were all lovely and full of character with comfy beds.
So much downstairs space for our small grandchildren to enjoy and the garden is just beautiful.
Very well equipped kitchen with everything we needed and a much used Dishwasher.
Great location to walk out to Shops and Pubs in Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle 5 minutes away.
Customer Service was excellent. Hope to return again sometime.

Easter weekend at Barebones Farm

Our family party of 14 (8 adults, 6 children) had a wonderful Easter weekend and also celebrated a 70th birthday at Barebones. It is ideal for a large group and we really loved the conservatory area leading off the kitchen. The large dining table accommodated us all and the garden is delightful, full of Spring flowers and ideal for the children's Easter Egg hunt. Location is excellent with everything on the doorstep from food shops, pubs and wonderful countryside walks, as well as Sudeley Castle. Despite being in the middle of the village and fronting the road, it was very peaceful. The ground floor bedroom could do with a chest of drawers/dressing table, but the bed was extremely comfortable and the shower excellent. A shaving light over the basin would be useful. We also appreciated having two sitting rooms so that the children used one for TV and playing, while the adults could read quietly in the other. The dressing up box was great fun and there is a great selection of books and games. The kitchen is extremely well equipped. Our 6ft 4in son-in-law did hit his head on one of the upstairs beams so watch out if you are tall, and the two bedrooms on the top floor are really best for children, not for adults. However, we loved the character of the place and its sense of history and it was a superb base for the family which we all loved. We wish we could have stayed longer!

Week Long Stay

Another fantastic stay in Barebones Farm. The house is very confortable and really has everything we needed within 150 yard walk of the doorstep. Special mention to the owner Liz who is very communicative and helpful, replying very quickly to all emails, organising cleaners etc
We will be back and I highly recommend this property.

Winchcombe weekend

Barebones Farm was a perfect house for our large gathering. Plenty of comfortable spaces and homely furnishings. A fantastic, well-equipped kitchen with the conservatory and dining room all joining up became the hub for our family.
A great position within walking distance of all the shops in Winchcombe and we all enjoyed exploring the walks around Sudeley Castle.
We were blessed with sunny January weather but I can imagine this would a fantastic place to stay in the summer with its large garden and patio for eating outside.

Clean, comfortable and characterful venue in a lovely village setting

An excellent place to meet up with friends or family to enjoy everything that Winchcombe and the Cotswolds have to offer.

A great house in a great location

An extremely comfortable stay in a great location. Really well appointed house (incredible kitchen) with easily enough space for the 11 of us. Lovely big garden and able to walk everywhere in Winchcombe with ease. Highly recommended and will stay again.

Wonderful birthday weekend

We booked this house for a family birthday weekend. It was such a lovely property and location, that it made our weekend more special. It had everything we could have needed, with different places to sit if we did not want to all be together. The garden was so beautiful and sitting out on the patio was nice, weather permitting. The beds were comfortable and quality linen and towels provided.

A lovely Stay in a Unique Property

We were a multigenerational family staying at Barebones, celebrating missed time together & all the family birthdays missed during the last 2 years. We had a lovely time in this spacious, unique property. Liz & Steve are such nice hosts, so kind & helpful, we appreciated the welcome goodies!
The location is a quieter base to explore the Cotswolds from & ideal for the Steam Railway.
We loved the garden, the kitchen, the conservatory & dining room...such great communal areas to meet up in. The property is indeed, quite magical, ideal for extended family celebrations, so well equipped for all generations.

Cotswolds gem

What a fantastic venue for a large family celebration for an 80th birthday. Twelve guests, ranging from 10 to 80 years all loved the farmhouse and had a great time. Lots of space for everyone, with comfortable areas for relaxing inside and out. Incredibly well equipped for self catering but easy to walk out for food and drink, with lots of local options. Very comfortable beds and good showers. Owners were really helpful but not intrusive. Looking for the next opportunity to come back already!

Excellent cottage for a family gathering.

Excellent cottage for our family group of 14 people and 4 generations. Lovely garden which was safe and enclosed for the toddlers and dog. The kitchen is very sensibly equipped for family meals with plenty of serving dishes and cooking utensils, all in good condition. One of the showers was a bit poor, but all appliances were in good working order. We had a lovely week.

Working week away trip

I have stayed previously with friends and a young family so knew the property. This time we were a group of8 who came down for a working away trip in Cheltenham. Barebones is just what we needed with it being so comfortable and so many quality amenities right on our doorstep. Winchcombe is a lovely town with plenty of decent pubs and restaurants meaning we did not have to venture out in taxis anywhere - if you did there is no lack of good places to go within 15/20 mins. The owner Liz was excellent communicating with me and I am very much looking forward to returning next year.

Fabulous house for a multi-generation stay

We booked Barebones Farm to celebrate my father's 88th birthday. Our family group of 14 ranged in age from 2 to 88 and we were all delighted with it. My father, who has poor mobility, loved the ground floor bedroom, and wet room, and the cosy snug where he retreated for a snooze but still felt part of the goings-on. The rest of us mostly hung out in the fabulous kitchen-conservatory-dining area, eating, drinking and playing family games (including a bit of dressing up in all the funny hats in the dressing up cupboard!) With so many of us, we decided to go completely self-catered, which was a great choice given that the kitchen is so spacious and well-equipped. We even played a bit of toddler football in the garden and saw an albino squirrel! Just 100 metres from the front door is the White Lion pub, which found room for us all to have a free-dinner drink and we went for a lovely walk to Sudeley Castle's parklands. All in all a great experience and hoping to stay again in the summer.

Really comfortable cottage with tasteful decor

We had a very enjoyable time as a group of friends who like to meet up yearly. The house is extremely well set out including and excellent kitchen/dining/conservatory area, and a ground floor accessible bedroom. This was our 2nd stay here and we will certainly be back.

Fantastic

We had a fantastic family gathering at Barebones Farm. The house and garden are beautiful and perfect for a get together.
The dinning table is huge and great for a big family meal and the social areas are also big and great for everyone to sit around talking.
The location is also brilliant, with some lovely towns and villages nearby. There are also quite a few restaurants, cafes and pubs.

Perfect for a large family holiday

We feel very lucky to have found Barebones at such short notice (our planned holiday abroad had to be cancelled due to Covid-19). The property had been very well cleaned, was well equipped and well maintained. We had lovely weather and spent most of our time on the large patio or playing in the beautiful, well tended garden. The large kitchen and conservatory space allowed us all to be together. We met the owner who genuinely cares that her guests have everything they need. Bolthole Retreats were great to deal with - answering my queries very promptly. Winchcombe and the surrounding area are beautiful with lots to do. Thank you for a lovely week.
Jane
A fantastic stay

We came to stay for a Hen do and found the house to be perfect! The kitchen was very well stocked with various utensils and each of the rooms had a cosy feel. The conservatory area was perfect for relaxing and we even saw a white squirrel in the garden. The owners were lovely and helpful. We all said we would happily come back!

A Perfect Place To Stay In The Cotswolds

Barebones Farm in Winchcombe was clean and spacious with beautifully appointed bedrooms, plenty of bathrooms for everyone to use, a lovely dining area and a very well equipped large kitchen. Winchcombe is the perfect place to stay if you enjoy walking, dining out and shopping... it has something for everyone! My friends and I definitely want to revisit both Winchcombe and Barebones Farm and have no hesitation in recommending both! A big 'Thank you', too, to Liz who went out of her way to help get an urgent message to one of our party.

An unexpected guest

We recently enjoyed a fabulous family get together at Barebones.
Everyone had a great time from the dogs, who enjoyed the walks, the grandchildren who loved dressing up,
the parents who loved entertaining, and the rest of us who simply relaxed.
Ample room for everyone to find their own space.
Oh the unexpected guest ! You might be lucky enough to spot him in the beautiful gardens.
He regularly dropped in while we were there.
The white squirrel !

Fabulous property for a get together of old friends.

We hired Barebones Farm for our annual get together of old university friends. The whole group of 8 was delighted with the accommodation. It is extremely well appointed, clean, comfortable and characterful. It is very well located in the centre of Winchcombe, with an excellent pub (The Lion) on the same street and plenty of good walks nearby, some of them beginning from our doorstep. The garden is large, attractive and well maintained. We will probably return next year. Highly recommended.
