Overview
Discover Painswick, the Queen of the Cotswolds, from this welcoming home. Walking distance of the sights and sounds of this beautifully historic village you can explore the Rococo Gardens and head out for a lovely evening meal at the pub.
Sitting over three floors, Whitehall Cottage makes the most of its location. As you enjoy meals in the kitchen/diner you are surrounded by the garden landscapes, the sun room is an escape to enjoy nature no matter the weather, and there are perfect snugs for the children to get lost in their games. There is even an office if you can’t leave work behind and an extra breakfast room so you can really spread out. Painswick really is the heart of the Cotswolds and you can get a true taste of country life here. Head out to browse small local galleries or build up an appetite on a country walk before returning to welcoming Whitehall Cottage. At the end of the day, four bedrooms look out across the valleys and provide fantastic flexibility to suit a number of different groups. You’re sure to get to enjoy long lie ins in this peaceful spot.
The dining terrace here is a special spot. Set the table and bring out the bottles of bubbly for a celebration as you soak in your setting. Spreading before you the garden has lawned areas and secret hidden seating if you’re looking to get away from it all. When in bloom there are beautiful roses adding their scent and a bit of magic to this cottage.
Ground Floor
Kitchen/Diner
Flooded with light, this fantastic space allows you to have meals together and play board games on the dining table. It is a very communal room where it is easy to make the most of your time together, and the chef of the group doesn’t need to get lonely. From the dining table you can enjoy the garden views that look far into the distance.
Utility
Tucked to one side of the kitchen, the utility has a washer/dryer, additional storage space and there’s a wine fridge to keep all of your favourite bottles chilled for evenings in. A handy overhead clothes airer keeps everything out of the way. The utility opens to the garden through a stable-style door.
Cloakroom
At the end of the utility is a cloakroom with a WC and basin.
Sun Room
You will be drawn to spend time here as the sun shines through, curling up with a book or just enjoying the surrounding scenery. It is made for relaxed conversations, opening the door to let the outdoors in and allowing you to drift out onto the terrace, perhaps with a cool glass of wine in hand.
Living Room
Part of the original cottages, the living room is a cosy getaway. The children will love it here, huddling around the TV playing games on the Xbox and you can browse the bookshelf. If there are any musical members in your group they will love the piano that is here, adding some atmospheric background music to your stay.
Breakfast Room
Set the table for the littler ones to enjoy breakfast together at their own table, or a quick lunch before you head out for the day. This room has a wonderful woodburner making it perfect for more intimate meals as the fire crackles.
Office
Hidden to one side, the office is a quiet retreat where you can catch up on emails and paperwork if you cannot escape the workplace.
Shower Room
A useful addition that helps you avoid any queues in the morning, the ground floor shower room has a shower with a rainfall head, WC and basin.
First Floor
Bedroom Three
This sunny double bedroom has a 4’ bed and gives you a hint of the history of this home with wooden beams and exposed stone wall. Perch on the window seat in the morning to watch the day begin before heading into Painswick for breakfast.
Bathroom
With both a bath and a shower this bathroom is shared between bedrooms three and four. Freshen up after a day spent exploring and get ready for a night at the pub.
Bedroom Four
This twin room has plenty of space for two children or adults sharing. Each bed has its own bedside table and there is hanging space. An old fireplace is now a quirky decorative feature.
Second Floor
Bedroom One
Up on the top floor, this bedroom has the best view. Looking across the treetops across the valley towards Stroud you get lost in the ever changing scene. A double bed sits amongst the exposed walls and wooden beams and there is a TV if you can’t bring yourself to get up in the morning and just want to laze.
En-Suite
In the en-suite is a shower, WC and basin.
Bedroom Two
This charming room can be arranged with a super king-size bed or two singles. Notice the section of A-framed beams overhead in this older part of the cottage.
Outside
You will want to spend as much time as you can on the dining terrace at Whitehall Cottage. Take meals out, sit with a magazine and your morning coffee, or just spend a moment enjoying this peaceful area. The garden leads you down to a lawned area and secret seating areas where you can get away from it all.

Painswick stay

We booked this accommodation while walking the Cotswold Way. Downstairs space was good and we were able to combine a couple of tables to sit 8 of us together. Upstairs all rooms had views out the back. A little more furniture in the main bedroom would be good.
We had a couple of issues but these were responded to and satisfactorily resolved within a couple of days.
Malcolm
Lovely cottage with everything you could possibly need. Painswick is a pretty little village with two excellent pubs and a lovely couple of cafes. Perfect base for exploring the (very hilly!) surrounding countryside. We did two stunning cycle trips from the village. Surrounding area is lovely,

Was really nice
Liam
This was the most beautiful place to stay. Wonderful little cottage, had everything you need. Easy parking which is challenging in some small towns. The views are amazing. We had a great time. Thank you.
Bryn
Wonderful experience and the host was fantastic. The cottage is lovely in the most perfectly beautiful small village in the Cotswold’s.
Clark
A spacious cottage in a convenient location right by the centre of pretty Painswick, with plenty of nearby free parking. The property is spread over 3 floors and is generally well-equipped, quiet and spacious.
Claudia
Lovely stay in the cute village of Painswick, within walking distance of cafes and restaurants. Excellent communication and recommendations on things to do/places to eat. Plenty of space for our group of 6. WiFi was patchy throughout our stay and beware of steep steps which maybe difficult for older guests.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us on your recent stay at Whitehall Cottage. We’re very glad to hear that you liked the property. Your valuable feedback regarding the Wi-Fi has been shared with the property owner and housekeeper, who wish you had contacted them during your stay as they would have been very happy to come and look at this for you. They’ve let us know that due to the rural location, the connection is the best currently available, however they have taken your comments on board. We hope to see you in the Cotswolds again soon.
Kind Regards

Debbie
I stayed at Whitehall Cottages in the October half-term with kids (2x teen and 1x tween boys) and we had a wonderfully restorative long weekend here. The house was amazingly comfortable - immaculately clean and tastefully decorated - with high-end mod cons nestled seamlessly within all the beautiful original features. I loved waking up to a view of the incredible landscaped garden and spending afternoons in the warm kitchen awash with sunlight through the day. I cooked a couple of meals and found all the pots, pans, knives, etc to make it a pleasure, and we even found Tupperware to pack picnics for our long walks. I will definitely return, and possibly with a larger group of friends and family because with 4 bedrooms and 3 bath/shower rooms (+WC), the house is perfect for longer stays- and there are plenty of cups and crockery to accommodate everyone!
