Wallhope Escape is a beautifully curated countryside retreat made up of two distinct but complementary properties: The Nook and Wallhope Retreat. Tucked away in the tranquil countryside near historic Chepstow, this secluded escape is perfect for families and friends looking to reconnect with nature in comfort and style. With a warm, rustic-luxe aesthetic, two hot tubs, and sweeping views across the surrounding hills, Wallhope Escape is where laid-back luxury meets the charm of rural life.

Wallhope Retreat is a welcoming home brimming with character. Inside, you'll find two beautifully styled bedrooms, a spacious kitchen, and an inviting living area, where all guests can dine together as the table has seating for six — plus, there is ample seating for six outside as well as a private hot tub that’s perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. Just a few steps away, The Nook is a stylish one-bedroom cabin offering a romantic, light-filled open-plan living space, complete with a log burner, sleek kitchen, and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the countryside beyond. Step out onto the private deck to enjoy alfresco dining or soak in your own secluded hot tub under the stars.

Set within a peaceful valley on a working farm, Wallhope Escape is surrounded by gently rolling countryside, with walking trails starting right from your doorstep. The nearby Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers endless adventures, from scenic hikes and paddle boarding on the river, to exploring ancient castles and woodland. Chepstow’s vibrant town centre is a short drive away, with its historic castle, independent shops, and excellent eateries. Even closer to home, the farm produces its own delicious gelato, milkshakes, and fresh milk — perfect for a sweet treat after a countryside stroll. Whether you’re soaking in the views from the garden, stargazing from the tub, or enjoying a long lunch on the terrace, Wallhope Escape invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and truly unwind.

Ground Floor

Kitchen
This country chic kitchen combines modern grey units and fresh white worktops with wooden stools and industrial style lighting. It is perfectly sized for four guests with an oven and hob, microwave, kettle, fridge/freezer and breakfast bar area. A door opens out to a rear patio where there is a bistro set giving you space to sit while waiting for dinner to finish cooking.

Cloakroom
From the kitchen is a handy cloakroom with a WC and sink.

Sitting Room/Dining Room
The high ceilings in this room and arched window looking out to the front garden and spectacular views beyond make it bright and spacious. The sitting area in front of the wood burning stove has a two-seater sofa, cuddle chair and an armchair, perfect for curling up after long walks in the country. The dining table sits under a statement light and is a lovely spot to serve evening meals together.

Utility
The utility is hidden away by the dining area and is a very useful space for doing the laundry and it provides some extra storage space. You will find a washing machine and sink, and the ironing facilities are stored here.First Floor

Bedroom One
The master bedroom is airy and spacious with a king-size bed which faces a large window looking across to the Severn Bridge and the river. Waking up here and opening the blinds is a real treat as you are staying in the heart of beautiful farmland. The soft furnishings are inspired by the clover, fields of lush grass and surrounding flora that you can see in this area. A chest of drawers, bedside table and a dressing table furnish this room.

En-Suite
The modern and monochrome en-suite to bedroom one gives this room some additional privacy if you are staying with friends. A walk-in shower, WC and sink in white with contrasting black details give this room a professional finish.

Bathroom
Fantastic wallpaper makes the family bathroom an unexpected statement in this cottage. With elements of the farm reflected in the design you will see pheasants, crickets, bridges and lots of greenery. A free standing bath sits in the centre of the room giving you a spa-like experience as you soak tired walking legs.

Bedroom Two
This second bedroom has twin beds which can be a super king-size double on request. At the back of the house, this room has a view out onto the field behind the cottage. This room has also taken inspiration from the history of the farm, hares leap on the curtains and they used to be seen around the farm in the owner’s childhood. You have a chest of drawers and bedside tables along with an armchair to read a book before settling to sleep.

Outside

The garden serves as your own private viewpoint of the spectacular outlook from Wallhope Retreat. With a corner sofa and table, you will adore having your morning coffee here while the birds swoop above you, bees visit the lavender, and the tractors get to work in the fields. Sitting in the hot tub at the bottom of the garden you feel hidden away with only the sounds of country farm life to keep you company. There is a small lawned area, a gravel pathway and colourful hanging baskets and planted borders. You are given complete privacy to really soak in this rural retreat. To the rear is a small paved area with a bistro set. Off-road parking is provided for up to four cars. Bike storage is available by prior arrangement.

Ground Floor



Sleeping area
The king-size bed is a welcoming place for ultimate relaxation. Awake on the pillowy linens to sunlight beaming through the French doors as you sip your morning coffee.

Living/Kitchen/Dining area
Spend evenings relaxing on the sofa after a cooking up a storm in the small but well-equipped kitchen or toast a glass of wine as you look out through the French doors to the fields beyond.

Bathroom
This neutrally decorated shower room has a walk-in shower, basin, and traditional WC. Despite feeling totally amongst nature, you have all your modern conveniences here.

Outside


Outside, you’ll find private decking with a table for two and steps down to the grass area. To the other end of the decking is a hot tub for starlit soaks and peaceful views over grazing cows and the estuary beyond — the perfect spot to relax and recharge. If you feel like wandering slightly further afield, you can head to the Wallhope hut where you will find all the delicious home made treats to purchase and enjoy.

Supermarkets and Shopping
Wallhope Farm has it's own milk, milkshakes and gelato available for purchase from the Wallhope Farm Hut. Hanley Farm Shop (1 mile) stocks local produce and have an on-site café serving drinks, breakfasts, and lunches. Cowshill Farm Shop (2 miles) supplies pedigree pork and beef and in the village of Tutshill is A&H Jones Butchers and deli. Nearby Chepstow (3.5 miles) is a charming market town where you will find a selection of coffee shops including a wine shop, florist, book shop and sweet shop. Taurus Crafts (7.5 miles) hosts local crafters and artisans, it is a fantastic destination for gift shopping. There is also a zero-waste shop, and kitchen serving breakfasts and light bites.


Eating Out

  • The Rising Sun, Woodcroft – a community pub and local hub serving traditional pub grub which hosts a weekly quiz night (2 miles)
  • Café on the Hill, Tutshill – serving food and drink from local suppliers (2 miles)
  • The Wild Hare, Tintern – countryside inn in the picturesque village of Tintern (7 miles)
  • The Cross Inn, Aylburton – woodburning stoves and wooden beams make this a cosy choice (7 miles)


Walks
The Nook is the ideal base for a walking holiday with Offa’s Dyke, the Gloucestershire Way and the Wye Valley Greenway all running through the farm. Using these you can easily reach Chepstow along the Gloucestershire Way, Tintern on the greenway, which is also perfect for cycling, or follow Offa’s Dyke along the River Wye north towards Monmouth. A walk up to the Jubilee Stone on the chase behind rewards you with possible sightings of pine martens amongst the woods

Wintour’s Leap provides spectacular opportunities for climbing and provides a viewpoint high above the River Wye.

  • Goodrich Castle – one of the best preserved English medieval castles (17 miles)

Train
Chepstow railway station (3 miles miles) has a frequent and direct service to Gloucester where you can change for services to London.

This property has a check-in time of 16:00 and a check-out time of 10:00.
  • Wallhope Escape is one of our pet-free properties and therefore dogs and other pets are not permitted. Please note the owner has two dogs, Dave and Jessie. They do not have access to Wallhope Escape but you may meet them along the farm road.
  • There is an additional charge of £75 per the use of each hot tub. The hot tub at Wallhope Retreat will be allocated if guests wish to only use one hot tub. If guests would specifically like to use only The Nook hot tub, they must reach out with this request prior to the stay. Please ensure all guests read and adhere to our Hot Tub Rules and Guidance.
  • Wallhope Escape is set on a working farm. At certain times of the year there is more activity than others such as in Spring when the cows will be calving and must be attended to whenever required.
  • Bike storage is available at your own risk, please contact the owners to arrange this. E-bikes may not be stored in the property.
  • CCTV records the farm access track for security, it does not cover the property.
  • Please note, if you would like bedroom two at Wallhope Retreat arranged as a super-king, please contact us directly 7 days before arrival.

Location

Less than four miles from the bustling market town of Chepstow, Wallhope Retreat is surrounded by spectacular farmland scenery and outdoor opportunities. Three popular walking trails pass through the farm making it easy to explore from your doorstep. Choose from the Wye Valley Greenway, the Gloucestershire Way and Offa’s Dyke, the historic boundary built between England and Wales. You can spend days out in the Forest of Dean, head into the Wye Valley, visit Lydney, Tintern Abbey and Chepstow Castle or travel further afield to Bristol and Bath, or Gloucester and Cheltenham.
