Situated next to Kentchurch Court, one of the most significant historic houses in Herefordshire and the ancestral home of the Lucas-Scudamore family, there's an abundance of history to be explored on your doorstep. High notes include beautiful gardens and a flock of 250 fallow deer that graze the hills framing the estate. Immaculately renovated and filled with elegant touches throughout, the house itself is a synergy of style and splendour - making for the perfect rural retreat.
Full Description
Revel in the elegance of this country hideaway, situated on the grand Kentchurch Estate. A spot teeming with wild beauty at the intersection between Herefordshire and Monmouthshire, this time-old estate makes for a spectacular backdrop for your stay. The lodge itself has been thoughtfully curated, and it's evident that the owners have considered every detail - from the elegant tiling in each en-suite, to ambient lighting and luxurious headboards that all work to make this spot memorable.

On entering, you'll instantly feel a sense of tranquillity as you wander through the entrance hall towards the kitchen - a space to gather with friends and family over food or a glass of wine. Just footsteps away, the sitting room is bursting with stylish touches and abundant seating paired with a roaring wood burner that'll have you returning to this spot across your stay. Meanwhile, Upper Lodge's first floor is just as pleasing, with three spacious bedrooms, all immaculately designed and equipped with their own en-suites.

Completed by an expansive garden and terrace area, this hideaway is an excellent base for exploring the beauty of the wild Herefordshire countryside - whether you choose to explore the history behind Grosmont Castle, the thriving town of Monmouth or the breathtaking Brecon Beacons.

Upper Lodge's entrance hall welcomes you with natural light and a plethora of antiques. We love the classic feel to this room.

Upper Lodge's expansive kitchen and dining area is a place to gather and connect over good food and conversation. With its elegant communal island forming the heart of the room, wander over to the dining table where there's seating for six people with a view of the expansive garden.

Sitting Room
The sitting room is a considered spot for winding down. With comfortable seating, plenty of natural light and a view of beautifully curated flowers outside, this place will fast become your spot to relax and unwind throughout your stay.

The downstairs cloakroom provides a WC and hand basin for refreshing.

First floor

Bedroom One
Upper Lodge's first bedroom is a tranquil place for resting after days exploring Herefordshire. With its sumptuous super king-sized bed, classic floorboards and a window overlooking the garden, it's a restorative place to switch off.

En-suite
Walk down the lit up steps into bedroom one's en-suite and you'll uncover a peaceful spot to refresh whether you've spent the day sightseeing, walking or gathering in the garden. We love the black and white flooring, rolltop bath and scalloped mirrors.

Bedroom Two
Bedroom two is a serene place to rest once the sun goes down. Boasting traditional wooden floorboards and a super-king sized bed, it's contrasted with a printed headboard that lends this room enduring style.

En-suite
With its black and white tiling accented by salmon pink lining, bedroom two's en-suite has a distinctly Parisian feel, while the walk-in shower and curved wall mirror elevate the space.

Bedroom Three
Mirroring the style of Upper Lodge's first two bedrooms, this twin room exudes rustic charm. With its classic wooden accents and elegant lighting, we love the cosy feel to this room.

En-suite
Soaked in natural light, bedroom three's gleaming en-suite signs off this room with grandeur. We love the ivy green tiling, quirky art and contemporary lighting.

Outside

Open the elegant French doors to Upper Lodge's tranquil outside space and you'll instantly feel at ease. A private and enclosed walled garden where you can revel in the quiet surroundings of Kentchurch Court, spend time playing croquet on the lawn or wander over to the terrace that weaves around the property. As the sun begins to sink across the Herefordshire skyline, switch on the festoon lights and enjoy dinner at the table, or pull out a lounger to catch the last few rays of the day. In the morning, a second smaller table and chairs makes the perfect place for coffee and croissants.

Reviews

Upper Lodge at Kentchurch is a beautiful, relaxing, well appointed and excellently decorated/ furnished home. We loved the cosy hall where the dogs slept and where you could sit to put your boots on. The bedrooms were all lovely and well sized, with terrific bathrooms. The garden was private and well enclosed - with one of the walls being a lovely sun trap, even in December! And the setting is glorious, with a stream running alongside and access to a majestic deer park. Everything was perfect. We will be back!

Everything about our stay at Upper Lodge was exceptional. The accommodation is wonderful with all requirements for our stay catered for. The quality of the property is the best we have stayed in. Booking was easy, directions were given and Helen the housekeeper answered all questions instantly via email. I will be booking next year without hesitation.

We had a wonderful stay at Kentchurch for our friend’s birthday. It’s a beautiful spot and the house is fabulous. Comfortably enough room for six with everything you need, even down to weighing scales in the kitchen. We bought our dog and she had such a good couple of days of walking and exploring. I would highly recommend.

Lovely midweek break. Upper Court Lodge at Kentchurch was absolutely beautiful and comfortable. A superbly renovated home with everything that was needed for our stay. The grounds and gardens of Kentchurch are truly amazing, it was great to have all that just outside the lodge. There are some good walks and good pubs in the area as well, lots to see so we would definitely like to go back for another visit.

Beautiful house, beautiful garden and the surrounding gardens were a lovely addition. The beds and sofas were all very comfortable. We are a family of 6, 3 adult couples and really appreciated the individual space that the large bedrooms provided as well as the extra comfy extra large sofas in the lounge. We were lucky enough to get pleasantly warm weather so we also made use of the large outdoor dining table. We really enjoyed the darts, croquet and tennis. The surrounding lanes and countryside were great for running and walking and the dog really liked the streams for taking a dip. A really big thank goes out to Helen our contact, she was exceptional in responding to any questions she made our holiday 11/10 … Thank You Helen. I wouldn’t hesitate to visit again.

The property was just wonderful with so many supplies that we felt like we had all the comforts of home! Linda and Helen were so kind and helpful. By the end of the holiday, we felt like we were part of the family and will be rebooking 100% to stay again. We did actually extend our stay because we still had lots to see and do and it was worth it. No one actually wanted to leave to be honest. This property would be beautiful in Autumn and in Winter too so you really cannot go wrong.
