Beautiful cottage in a lovely village

This charming cottage in the beautiful village of Blockley was everything we hoped for from a stay in the Cotswolds. Blockley is ideally located for visiting other Cotswold attractions, with excellent walking routes right from the doorstep.
The cottage itself is wonderfully traditional and full of character, with cosy rooms, comfortable beds, and a lovely fireplace for the winter months. It was an easy walk to the church and café, and the peaceful surroundings made it a relaxing retreat for our four-day break.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.
Karen
Lovely stay, perfect size for 4 of us for the weekend. Charming spot with great pubs in walking distance.
Amy
We loved our stay. The cottage was just like the pictures: cute, cosy with all the amenities we needed. Very comfy beds. Small private terrace which was great for an evening drink. Good location less than 10 minutes walk into the main village. Parking can be tricky as the road is narrow.
Beth
Quiet and cosy stay

Very good starting point to the Cotswolds. You can also do beautiful walkings from the doorstep. Blockley is a beautiful village.

Great village and good value for money in Blockley

Nicely situated cottage in the centre of Blockley - the perfect village if you want to be away from the crowds. Cottage was comfortable and had most amenities we needed. We arrived in the early evening in winter (pitch black), however, so the cottage was quite difficult to find as no lights were turned on for us to read the name outside (Id recommend Bolthole retreats doing this for your guests in future). Housekeepers number was provided but didnt answer or call us back to help find it. Outside of that small detail, it was a good stay.

Magical stay over Christmas

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Red Lion Cottage. Lovely cottage in a quaint Cotswold village. A warning that it is not really suitable for those who struggle with stairs as the bedrooms are upstairs with a narrow winding staircase although there are well placed handles to assist. The second bedroom is not as large as the main bedroom and the one side of the double bed is against the wall. The bath is upstairs although the shower is downstairs. We loved our stay snd would certainly do it again

Wonderful cottage in a quaint Cotswolds village for a great Christmas. The Christmas tree and decorations just added to such a super homely cottage. Red Lion Cottage in beautiful Blockley.
Ian
Wow, what a great stay we had at the Red Lion Cottage! The cottage looked exactly as we had expected, there was even a Christmas tree. The location was also ideal: in a quiet village, but still a shop and eateries within walking distance and perfect location to explore the Cotswolds. We had a wonderful stay here!
Amina
Stunning location. The cottage is superb, has all you need for a pleasant stay. Five stars from us.
Kasia
The house is extremely comfortable and in a quiet and calm location. The landscape that can be seen from the living room windows makes the stay scenic.

Relaxing week in the Cotswolds.

Red Lion Cottage is in a great little village and very convenient as a base for touring the Cotswolds.
Cottage is well equipped and clean.
Bed was comfortable and shower was good pressure and WiFi was working well.
Only gripe is the miniature ironing board, why do so many rentals have this instead of a full size proper board? However thats only a minor issue, otherwise the cottage is well suited for a holiday break.
Locals were very friendly and helpful.
Would certainly return again.

Our first cottage stay

We always stay at hotels (usually 5*) but we decided to try a cottage for part of our holiday. Red Lion Cottage in Blockley was very sweet and better than expected. It was clean and had most everything we needed. I will look for a cottage with a washer and dryer next time but for 4 nights, this was perfect. Blockley was a great little village with a lot of charm. Bolthole was good and professional.
Lorraine
We enjoyed every aspect of our stay including its location, the comfort, and the quaintness of the home. The location was great in the middle of the Cotswolds in a charming village.

Lovely cottage in a gorgeous village

Our second visit to Red Lion Cottage was as good as the first, nearly 10 years ago. It is very well equipped, charmingly decorated and very comfortable. We did find it harder to park this time but always managed to find a space. Blockley is a gorgeous village, extremely quiet and set in beautiful countryside. The village shop and cafe are excellent.
Dominic
Disappointing

Cottage was convenient for our needs.
Misrepresented in listing: main bedroom bed is a DOUBLE when advertised as a king sized bed.
Poor bedlinen and towels.
Would have expected more at the charge rate. Disappointing.
Hayley

Great Weekend STay

Great Weekend stay in this lovely cottage in a great village. No issues at all. I will (like others) mention that the tv did not work however we do not go away to watch tv. There's plenty of street parking even if a bit tight in places however the road is a dead end so no issues with through traffic.
Jason

Fantastic location. Lovely cosy cottage. Gorgeous log burner.

Nice cottage

Lovely village but parking impossible! Two pubs neither food for food but nearest nice for drink. Beds ok but a bit soft, biggest not a king size as advertised, second bedroom tiny no proper hanging space.
Cottage nicely furnished but very difficult stairs with grab rails and poor outside space, badly maintained with very steep stairs up to it.
Not value for money as too many things were a problem or missing , e.g. half size kettle, one cup caffe tier, mini freezer compartment iced up . Would not recommend booking with Bolthole Retreats as very unhelpful.

We advised you that we were able to provide any documentation you needed to supply for your travel insurance if you were not able to make it, however, you had decided to stay at the cottage. Short Break in the Cotswolds

The Cottage is in a quintessential village, perhaps more remembered for being the location of the filming of Father Brown, than its history as one of the many mill villages.
Streets are very narrow, parking is difficult to find and there are no street numbers! The Red Lion Cottage is a wonderfully converted building that makes the best use of the space. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen fully stocked. It would have been nice to have a Nespresso machine, something other Bolthole Retreat locations have.
There are many amazing country walks directly from the Village, which is also very central for touring other unique Cotswolds villages. The local pub is well run by Sri Lankans serving British and ethnic dishes. There is also a very good Village Hub coffee shop serving coffee and food all day.

Lovely stay

Lovely stay, a great location and a clean warm , welcoming house . A small point, the back door did not open to access the bin and there were no clear instructions for discarding rubbish, which I think could be made clearer for future guests . Thank you
