Country walks, evenings at the pub and must-see Cotswold attractions are on offer at Mouse Manor. Sitting in the village of Longborough you are a stone’s throw from Sezincote House and Gardens, Cotswold Farm Park, picture-perfect Stow-on-the-Wold and Daylesford Organic just to name a few must-sees. The cottage itself takes you back in time to a world of exposed beams and flagstone floors, with an AGA and woodburning stove for a truly authentic experience. Made for a family retreat you will find yourselves needing to return to tick everything off your list of things to see and do.

Overview

Between Moreton-in-Marsh and Stow-on-the-Wold, Longborough is a secret retreat and Mouse Manor makes the perfect bolthole. Nestled amongst open countryside you have everything you need on your doorstep. The village pub, Coach and Horses, will welcome you for evening drinks or a meal and the village shop makes sure you can stock up on essentials and a taste of local produce during your stay.

Amongst the quiet streets lined with Cotswold stone houses sits Mouse Manor. Hugged by greenery it is an adorable cottage with a wealth of personality. Flagstones line the floors, wooden beams are above and in the kitchen the AGA is a beautiful addition. Whilst retaining its traditional heritage you will feel at home here. The cosy sitting room and kitchen make up the ground floor while above are two bedrooms and a bright bathroom. Outside, the garden is the cherry on the cake. Stretching before you there is space to dine and you can safely let the dog out. After long country walks and days spent visiting beautiful neighbouring towns, spread out a blanket and enjoy the peace and quiet, occasionally accented by the church bells.

There is so much to see and do in this golden triangle of the Cotswolds, you are spoilt for choice. Sezincote House and Gardens, Batsford Arboretum and Cotswold Farm Park are much loved attractions, and during the Summer months you are in a prime spot to attend the Longborough Festival Opera.

Ground Floor

Living Room
This cosy nook, warmed by the fire, is the embodiment of Cotswold life. Coming back from a day out and about, pour yourselves a glass of wine and take in your surroundings. As the fire crackles you can appreciate the changing hues of the exposed stone walls and the characterful wooden beam. Let the children watch TV while you flick through a magazine, gazing out to your view of rural life.

Kitchen/diner
The golden tones of Cotswold stone, flagstone flooring and centrepiece AGA take you back in time in this traditional country kitchen. A table set for four invites you for dinner and you can step out to the garden for evening drinks.

First Floor

Bathroom
A cheerful pop of colour brings life to the bathroom which has a bath with a handheld shower and a separate shower.

Outside

Planted borders, hidden pathways and secluded sunny spots make it hard for you to drag yourself away from the garden at Mouse Manor. Mouse Manor, Longborough

Verified Up Front Reviews
We really enjoyed our short stay at Mouse Manor. It’s set in the perfect location to explore the many beautiful villages in and around the Cotswolds. The cottage was lovely, quirky and had lots of character, downstairs was lovely and cool in the hot weather but upstairs did get quite hot but luckily fans were provided which was needed! We enjoyed sitting outside on the patio in the evenings with a Hawkstone cider or two and our dog Poppy loved the long garden with lots of little hiding places to investigate! The beds were comfy and the bed linen was good quality and fresh. The shower was lovely too especially as the weather was hot whilst we were there! The local shop (just a few doors up) is run by the locals in the village and they couldn’t be more helpful and kind! We visited the pub which is a stones throw away up the hill, enjoying a lovely dinner one evening and drinks on the other days we were there! Overall we had a wonderful stay and would definitely be back to visit Mouse Manor in such a lovely quiet village.

Birthday treat

Verified Up Front Reviews
I booked this cottage for my mums birthday. Location is excellent to explore the Cotswolds. The cottage is quaint and has everything you need. The only thing I would say is that it just needs a little bit of TLC, refresh in paintwork and new carpets upstairs. The only thing was the internet did not work. The network displayed at the cottage to use for the wifi did not exist. It was only when I returned home to find an email had been sent to me on the Sunday evening to tell me the wifi network had been changed. The email was sent to late for me to see before we set off the following day and the new network was not displayed in the cottage or in the welcome book. Other than this it is a great little find and I would recommend.

A cozy little cottage in a adorable village!

Verified Up Front Reviews
My family and I stayed here for a few days this Spring and had an absolute wonderful stay. It was very close to Stow on the Wold, Burton on water and the Slaughters. This was such a peaceful little village with a small café where we got some great breakfast sandwiches while admiring all the local flora. We stopped by the small pub in town, but they weren’t serving food that week because the chef was on paternity leave. (( So we are sad we missed the food, but were super happy for the arrival of a new baby!! )) The barkeeper we talked to was very friendly and we hope to come back sometime. The house was tiny, but extremely cozy! My husband and I are both around 5’7 and we’re glad we’re not much taller because we would’ve been bumping our heads. My husband remarked the people building this house must’ve been pretty much our exact heights. The house was nice and warm on those cold spring evenings, and the beds were comfy with plenty of blankets and pillows. We loved our mornings in the charming little kitchen before we headed out for a day of exploring. And it was nice having a bathtub to soak in at the end of the day. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this place ( for anyone who’s not too tall! ) and we would absolutely stay here again.

Weekend break

Verified Up Front Reviews
Lovely weekend stay at Mouse Manor. Really pretty building - stayed with my partner, two teenagers and dog for a weekend break in the cotswolds. Would recommend and definately good value for money. Particularly liked the Aga which makes it feel so warm and cosy at this time of year (October!).

Great location for a holiday cottage-the village is quiet and friendly with pub and shop/tearoom.

Verified Up Front Reviews
Mouse Manor is beatifully situated in a quiet village within easy walking distance to the local pub and village shop. We ate at the pub and also sat outside for a few drinks - can hghly recomend! The village shop has everything you could need including a little cafe just a short walk in the other direction. The cottage's rear garden was a lovely place to sit as we were blessed with good weather for the duration of out stay. We always managed to park right outside the front door. Mouse Manor was spotlessly clean and was furnished with 2 comfy sofas downstairs and a Tv which has a smart option if you wish - we didnt use the smart option as we have no idea how to do that even with the instructions provided. The Aga in the kitchen is permanently on which makes the house warm - the kitchen is well equiped but we only used kettle and toaster. The stairs to the first floor have a split landing half way up and you climb left to further stairs and main bedroom and right to further stairs leading to twin bedroom and bathroom. These stairs would be difficult for those with mobility problems and there is no handrail to help on the top half of the staircase. We only used the main bedroom which was quaint with a small double bed - it was a hard mattress for us but understand that's a preference thing - we swapped for softer pillows from back twin bedroom as we did not use the back twin bedroom. The bathroom has a seperate shower which was OK to shower in but not great - for some reason the water is either red hot or boiling in the shower and does not run cool. I am glad the weather was good for our stay as I could have all the windows open as well as the back stable kitchen door as there is a VERY strong musty/damp smell in the house. The bathroom wall is bubbling with some kind of damp issue/kitchen wall similar and the wallpaper is lifting from walls in both bathroom and back twin bedroom with whatever this issue is. I would not like to sleep in the twin back bedroom with this. The kitchen has the same smell/problem in the kitchen cupboards - to the point once we had taken the dishes out to use we never put them back away so we did not have to smell the cupbards again. The walls are bubbling and crumbling in the kitchen too. If it had been a cold winters stay and I had to keep windows shut then I could not have stayed there - indeed I query if anybody should unless these problems are sorted as they really did effect the overall experience. Such a shame as location and cleanliness were great. With that in mind I cannot recomend staying here at the moment. Should all the damp be dealt then this will really become a gem of a place. There was no point contacting the housekeeper or owners during stay as it was something that couldnt be fixed quickly.

Lovely cottage.

Verified Up Front Reviews
On arrival i found the door very stiff to open (not good with arthritic hands) . The first thing i noticed when i stepped inside was a big cobweb on the lamp to the left, in the alcove. However, the lounge was well set out although somewhat dusty. Down into the kitchen, lovely, everything you could possibly need and a welcome bottle of milk in the fridge (a nice touch although i dont drink cows milk). The window sill was quite dusty and the windows were dirty, especially on the outside. The cupboards had somewhat of a musty smell and the table to the left of the fridgefreezer was , again dusty and dirty. The garden was nice to sit in with a nice wooden windchime on one of the trees. Upstairs to the bathroom, that was quite disappointing as cleanliness fell below par here. The sink and bath both had bits of hair present, obviously hadn't been cleaned let alone wiped round. The paint around the window was in a poor state and peeling off which made a mess, also the wallpaper was hanging off to the right of the window. I only used the bath , i saw a big cobweb inside the shower at the top so i didnt go in there. The twin bedroom looked made up nicely but as i didnt use it i shut the door and left it alone. The double bedroom was made up nicely aswell, nice comfy bed and fans were provided in the cupboard which was good as it was very warm weather. This is a lovely cottage with a very lovely garden in a very lovely position, i just wish they had paid more attention to the cleanliness.

A little family get away

Verified Up Front Reviews
Property and village, tranquil. Great location to explore the Cotswolds. An amazing village shop, cafe and a pub which are both literally 20 steps away. The cottage is a little dated. Needs some TLC which I know is already taking place. Along with a deep clean as it was a little grubby. We had some “young ones” having a gathering next door which made a lot of noise as next door is also a holiday let. But that was taken care of. Caroline was amazing, and so were the team at Bolthole Retreats.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts following your recent stay. We're so pleased to hear you enjoyed the peaceful location and made the most of the lovely village shop, café, and local pub. We also appreciate your honest comments about the cottage. As you mentioned, some updates and maintenance are already underway, and your feedback is genuinely appreciated. The cottage is professionally cleaned between each stay, so we're disappointed to hear your concerns regarding cleanliness. The owner has already raised this with the housekeeping team to ensure standards are met moving forward. Had this been brought to our attention during your stay, the owner would have been more than happy to address the issues straight away. We're glad the noise disturbance was resolved quickly and that you felt supported throughout. We hope we can welcome you back to the Cotswolds another time.
