Great location but tired cottage in real need of some tlc

Verified Up Front Reviews
The cottage is in a great location in Stow on the Wold with a private car parking space to the back of the property which is excellent. The cottage also has a very well equipped kitchen with all the amenities apart from a microwave. Other than these positive points the cottage is unclean - incredibly dusty (everywhere), dirty doormats and mold issues in the en-suite shower and inside washing machine. It’s clear the cottage has a quick ‘surface clean’ but it was not cleaned properly or being maintained thoroughly for the money spent.

Comfortable but disappointing

Verified Up Front Reviews
Honeywick Cottage is located conveniently to the center of Stow on the Wold. We enjoyed the outside patio on the day it was sunny and warm. We also found the beds comfortable, the cottage clean and the kitchen well supplied. While we had a lovely stay, the cottage was disappointing in several aspects. It was quite dark and a bit down at the heel. In addition, the information provided by Bolthole was inaccurate. There was no clothes dryer - only a washer. No instructions were left for appliance operation. The garbage and recycling bins were not where it stated they were - and no instructions as to which was for trash and which for recycling or what could be recycled. Also, the faucet in the kitchen was quite loose making one fear it would fall apart at any moment. There was confusing information about who the local contact person was, as well, so that it took a couple of days to find the right person. When we did finally reach the correct contact person after losing hot water, she was responsive and came the next day.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the cottage's convenient location, found the beds comfortable, appreciated the well-equipped kitchen and were able to enjoy the patio during your stay. We are sorry that some aspects of the property did not meet your expectations. Honeywick Cottage is a traditional Cotswold cottage and, as shown in the property's photography, offers a cosy and characterful atmosphere that appeals to many guests, although we appreciate that preferences regarding style, décor and natural light can be very personal. We would like to clarify that the property is equipped with a washer-dryer, so drying facilities are available. Guest information is also provided to assist with the operation of appliances, waste and recycling arrangements, and local contact details throughout the stay. We are pleased that when the hot water issue was reported, the local property manager responded promptly and attended the property the following day to resolve the matter. We appreciate all guest feedback and are always looking for ways to improve. Thank you again for staying at Honeywick Cottage, and we are delighted that, despite some disappointments, you were able to enjoy your time in Stow-on-the-Wold.

Honeywick Cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
The actual door to the cottage isn’t exactly easy to find, being a walk from the keybox but once we were in we found a lovely cottage in a good location for the town. The place has character and a lovely garden area. The garden itself could do with a bit of TLC but to be fair, we were early in the season.

A great stay in a fab cottage in a super location

Verified Up Front Reviews
We had a really enjoyable long weekend. Honeywick Cottage is perfectly located, just a short stroll from the centre of Stow-on-the-Wold with its shops, pubs and cafés, which made everything very easy. The fully enclosed garden was a real highlight - great for our dog. We especially enjoyed breakfast out on the sunny patio. It wasn’t quite warm enough during our stay to make use of the pizza oven or BBQ, but it was great to see everything set up and ready for the warmer months. The kitchen was well equipped, with plenty of options for coffee lovers, which we appreciated. The Apotheke toiletries were also a lovely touch and added to the overall feel of the place. There were just a couple of small practical points worth mentioning. We found the instructions around waste and recycling a little unclear, as they referred to crates, bins and bags outside the door which we couldn’t locate. Also, it might also help future guests to know that the parking space is in front of the 'brown' garage marked with the cottage names "Honeywick Cottage" & "6 Yew Tree Cottages" - particularly as it doesn't mention the colour of the garage and also the cottage is referred to by two slightly different names. All in all, a very comfortable and well-cared-for cottage in a great Cotswolds location. We’d happily return.

Guest

The communication with the host was good, and they offered well-detailed instructions. It's important because the place itself is a little hard to find, as the front door is hidden behind other cottages and down a little alleyway. The photo in the image is the back door, which also has access to the cute patio and yard area, and at the end is a giant yew tree and a gate that leads to the sidewalk of the main road leading into Stow. The house is very cozy, well-appointed. We lit a fire on most nights and listened to music and read in the downstairs area. The host has so many books on nature, cooking, and chick-lit. The hot water is plentiful so evening baths were amazing. Understanding that it is an old stone cottage and we were there early spring, some things in the garden were a little brown, and some things inside a little worn, but it feels lived in, loved, and it was a great stay. Clean all around, comfortable beds, nice towels, etc.

Alexandra

Great location but tired cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
The Cottage was hard to locate in the dark, signposts and better lighting is needed. The Cottage was tired and in need of the paintwork repainting & the carpets need cleaning. The doormats need replacing. Both toilet seats were loose. There was a such an unpleasant smell in the second bedroom so we couldn’t use it. The bedding and towels had been washed in strong smelling washing powder it was quite over bearing. The bedding and towels would be better in plain white so you can tell they are clean. The cottage however is in a great location in Stow. It just needs some tlc.

Guest

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at Honeywick Cottage. We appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention. The Property Manager has reviewed and taken action upon the points which were raised. Both toilet seats were repaired on the Sunday afternoon of the same weekend that the issue was reported. With regards to locating the property, two sets of solar lights have been installed to improve visibility. The area receives limited sunlight, particularly during the winter months, which has affected their performance. As the weather improves, better functionality is anticipated. Additionally, a property sign has been placed on the garage door to clearly indicate the designated parking area. A professional decorator will be attending the property to address any areas which require attention. With respect to the bedding, all linens are professionally cleaned and pressed prior to each stay. While preferences regarding patterns may vary, all bedding is presented to a high standard of cleanliness and care. Thank you again for your valuable feedback, which assists us in maintaining and improving the quality of our accommodation.

Great for a long weekend.

Nice cottage in a quiet, convenient location. The home was clean, well equipped, comfortable and had off street parking. We would definitely stay again.

Lovely cottage - could be better with a few improvements

Verified Up Front Reviews
This cottage is within a short walk of the centre of Stow and benefits from a parking place - a good advantage in Stow. We visited in January so were not able to benefit from the nice looking garden. It has a good kitchen but no microwave. The lounge and dining area is spacious and comfortable and the whole place was pleasantly warm with lots of hot water on demand. The bed was comfortable and there is one shower and a bathroom. To be critical, it would benefit from a bit of detailed attention - chipped paint, a doorknob that came off in the hand, brush for the fire that fell apart and a toilet seat that had been recently put there judging from the labels still on it but had not been properly fastened. Overall, it was pleasant and there were no real "no-nos" but we have stayed in properties with a bit better "finish" to them.

David

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful and balanced review. I’m really pleased to hear you enjoyed the location, parking, and overall comfort of the cottage, and that you found it a pleasant stay. I’m very sorry about the issues you mentioned which the Property Manager has addressed with the housekeeper, who has checked all of these items carefully and fixed whatever needed to be done. Thank you again for your feedback and I hope we might have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Cotswolds.

Beautiful Cotswold cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
Honeywick cottage was the perfect place for our holiday in the Cotswolds (from Canada). It's location in the gorgeous little town of Stow-on-the-Wold is excellent (and the town itself is very central). The parking space at the cottage was also very easy to access, & convenient. We were able to walk to restaurants and coffee shops in town, as well as easily go on several lovely day trips. We rented the cottage at the beginning of December and so it was very cozy & comfortable to come back to the cottage after being out all day. It has a well outfitted kitchen, a cute dining room and a very pretty sitting room to relax. It was very clean, and beautifully decorated. The backyard is really nice, we didn't use it much due to the time of year, but it gave us a lovely view. This is our second time renting from Bolthole Retreats, they are great to deal with. We would absolutely recommend this cottage, and hope to get back there again some day.

Elizabeth

Good location and facilities; but issues with showers and cleanliness

Verified Up Front Reviews
Very good location and well equipped cottage. It has a nice garden with very good bbq which makes it great for a weekend with friends or family. However, the cottage was dirty and showers completely clogged.

Nicolas

Cosy Cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
Lovely cosy cottage, has a really nice feel too it! Great location you can walk straight into Stow-on-the-Wold and great that it has an easy access parking space! Highly recommend the little cafe called the Hive the owners are lovely! Perfect stay would come again!

Zoe

Great cottage in perfect location.

Verified Up Front Reviews
We had a lovely couple of days in Honey wick cottage. The location was great and there was more than enough room for 4 of us. The only slight downside to this cottage is that there is only one shower & it is located the en-suite bathroom. We also were not provided hand towels for the second bedroom / bathroom. We found the online instructions on which car park space was ours a bit confusing but one of the neighbours helped. However over all a great cosy cottage in a perfect location & would stay again.

Samantha

We’ve shared your valuable feedback with the property owner, who is has taken onboard your comments about adding a second shower. We've also spoken with the housekeeper, who mentioned that if you had contacted them during your stay, they would have been very happy to provide some extra hand towels for you. Your comments about the parking information have also been taken on board, and we’re looking into how we can make this clearer for future guests. We hope to see you in the Cotswolds again soon.

We had a wonderful stay - the cottage was clean and had all the amenities needed (the coffee machines were a nice perk!) and the beds were comfy. A great setting, easily walkable to the local shops and pub, and a short drive from other popular villages in the Cotswolds. Bolthole Retreats included lots of helpful info before and during our stay - with local recommendations and the checking and checkout process was super easy. Would definitely stay again!
