This beautifully refurbished stone cottage offers a respite from the hubbub of daily life in a peaceful and serene rural idyll. It sits surrounded by stunning English countryside yet the charms of Cirencester, capital of the Cotswolds, are just 5 miles away. Field View lives up to its name with wonderfully bucolic views over the surrounding fields and farmland. Set over three floors this terraced cottage offers oodles of charm and character with original beams and exposed stone walls throughout, there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, making it perfect for two couples, an inviting living room with a wood burner and a stylish kitchen and dining area. A large private garden lies opposite, the property accepts dogs and there are wonderful walks right from the doorstep.
Overview
The approach into Tarlton, as you turn off the main road really is picture-perfect. The lane dips and winds in front of you and is lined with an avenue of trees that stretch as far as the eye can see. Field View forms the middle cottage of three stone properties that sit to the front of a quiet courtyard at the end of a peaceful no-through lane. This pretty cottage has wisteria and roses rambling over the stone walls of its exterior and offers beautiful rural views.
This delightful cottage has been thoughtfully and sensitively refurbished, retaining plenty of character features such as original beams and brace and latch doors, yet stills feels modern and elegant. Exposed stone walls create a focal statement and touches such as a feature wall doubling as the wood store and a glass panel staircase bring modernity to an old building.
The ground floor comprises a stylish kitchen, flooded with light from the overhead ceiling lantern and large window, which is open plan to the dining area creating a warm and sociable space. Guests relaxing in the comfy living room are still connected to everyone through the wide-open doorway. Upstairs is no less enchanting with a lovely double bedroom, charming single and a gorgeous master bedroom encompassing the top of the house. Those who love to drift away in the bath can enjoy true bath-time bliss in the gorgeous family bathroom complete with a clawfoot bathtub.
To the rear of the cottage is a quiet courtyard with five other properties, to the front a rural view that is as English as can be. The no-through lane ensures little traffic and the private garden across the lane is surrounded by fields. It’s the perfect spot to spread out a picnic blanket and recline with a good book, surrounded by nothing but nature and the sound of birdsong that fills the air.
Ground Floor
Kitchen:
As you step into the kitchen you are greeted with a room flooded with light from the overhead ceiling lantern. The stylish kitchen is fitted with midnight blue cupboards topped with white marble-effect work surfaces and touches of bronze throughout. Behind the fitted cupboards you’ll find a washer-dryer, fridge-freezer, and a slimline dishwasher. There’s an electric oven and hob as well as a microwave and a Krups/Nespresso machine for coffee aficionados. A large window overlooks the courtyard to the rear, with a white butler’s sink beneath. The stone floor tiles add to the character and are totally in keeping with the style of this lovely home.
Boot Room:
In front of you is a handy boot room with coat hooks, a rack for muddy wellies and plenty of space for drying off soggy dogs.
Dining Room:
To the right of the kitchen is a characterful dining area with a six-seater wooden dining table. A cosy and sociable space that keeps you close to the chef(s) in the kitchen. A creative log store creates a feature along one wall, giving a warm and rustic feel to the space. The stairs to the first floor rise from the dining area and there is a useful cupboard under the stairs where you’ll find the iron and ironing board and vacuum cleaner.
Living Room:
From the kitchen/dining area step through an open doorway into the cosy lounge. The doorway reveals walls nearly a foot thick, a vivid reminder of how solid these Cotswold cottages are and how they were built to endure. The focal point of the room is the cosy wood burner, set into the original stone fireplace, and flanked by two plump sofas seating two and four respectively and adorned with cushions and throws. A wooden coffee table is perfectly placed in front of the fireplace, and inside you’ll find a selection of board games. There’s a bookshelf tucked into one corner with guidebooks and maps to help you plan your adventures around the area. A large smart TV sits in the opposite corner to one side of the large window, which overlooks the lane to the front and garden beyond. The front door also opens into the living room. Original beams still grace the ceiling and exposed stone walls add to the charm and appeal of this welcoming room.
First Floor
From the dining area a staircase carpeted with seagrass rises to the first floor. The exposed stone wall and glass panels make a real feature of the space. A landing runs the length of the first floor with an exposed stone wall.
Bedroom One:
This light and airy bedroom is at the front of the cottage with seagrass flooring and a cosy sheepskin rug to keep toes warm. The old wooden door is original brace and latch and there is a large window framing the beautiful rural views which lets in plenty of natural light. There’s also a large windowsill where you can perch for a while and just let the beauty of the view calm your soul. The bedroom has is a king-size bed (can be a twin on request) twin bedside tables with reading lamps, a large chest of drawers topped with a freestanding round mirror and quirky clothes stand with hooks.
Bedroom Two:
This charming single room has exposed wooden floors, a soft rug, and a comfy single bed. A deep window is set into the exposed stone walls with beautiful views over the green fields to the front. There’s a chest of drawers and a bedside table with a reading lamp as well as four clothes hooks on the wall.
Bathroom / Shower Room:
The family bathroom is stunning. It might just turn out to be the favourite room in the house. Bath lovers will adore the large claw foot tub, which sits beneath a frosted window. Fill it with bubbles and you could soak for hours. The beautiful design of the bathroom makes full use of the original beams and original walls. The stone tiles on the floor are also used for the tiling in the huge step-in shower with a rainfall showerhead and second handheld head. There’s a W.C. and a handbasin which is cunningly set onto a wooden cabinet. A traditional style radiator with a towel rail above keeps the room warm and toasty.
Second Floor
At the end of the first-floor landing, there is a door to a second flight of stairs (no handrails) which lead to the master bedroom suite on the top floor.
Bedroom Three
The stairs rise to the middle of this galleried bedroom which covers the entire top floor of the house. (Children must be supervised as the staircase is completely open.) At one end is a king-size bed with bedside tables and reading lamps, overhead a pendant lamp gives a gentle glow to this romantic space. Curl up with a good book on the occasional chair tucked under one of the eaves or linger a while on the windowsill of one of the two dormer windows looking out over the bucolic rural scene to the front of the cottage. The original beams add to the charm of this gorgeous room. To the other end of the bedroom is a wall of fitted wardrobes with shelves and hanging space.
Ensuite Shower Room
This top floor bedroom also boasts an ensuite shower room, with a hand basin with a mirror over, WC and a step-in shower cubicle. The bathroom is warmed by a heated towel rail. To the front, there is a window overlooking the fields beyond.
Outside
Field View has a private garden that sits directly opposite the cottage, across the quiet, non-through lane. The garden is laid to grass and surrounded by green fields and trees. To the front is a traditional Cotswold stone wall, a post box and the entrance is through a pretty flower arch.Facilities

There is a farmers’ market on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month, Jesse Smith is an excellent local butcher, and you’ll find a couple of superb bakeries too. A visit to the Jolly Good Farm Shop (3.4 miles) is also highly recommended. For a more substantial food shop, there is a Waitrose (4.9 miles), Lidl (5.6 miles) and Tesco (6.3 miles) from Field View.

lovely days with the family at Field View
We stayed at Field View with the whole family (three generations) and felt very much at home there. Everyone loved the charm of the cottage and the location. Bolthole Retreats and the owner responded quickly and efficiently when a problem arose, ensuring it was resolved on the same day. Thank you very much for that.
Its great that there are two parking spaces right next to the house.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Field View and would love to come back.
One suggestion: the motion sensor in the bathroom in the attic is set to a very short range, so that whilst brushing our teeth or showering, we sometimes found ourselves suddenly in the dark and the light only came back on when we moved towards the door. This may have been due to our height; we are all only about 1.60 m tall.

Lovely stay
A beautiful cottage with lovely views, walks on your doorstep situated on a quiet no-through lane and within reach of all the main Cotswold attractions.
Parking for 2 cars is a few steps down the lane which wasnt a problem, nor was the secure garden directly across the lane.
The cottage was very well equipped and had some basic supplies which were welcome. The fuel for the log burner was also much appreciated.

Beautiful weekend in Cotswolds
A beautiful wholesome weekend with friends in this lovely cottage.
We were a group of 5 staying at the cottage was spacious, with cosy living quarters and fireplace. The kitchen was well equipped with a lovely welcome hamper. The bedrooms with lovely, with big bathrooms attached or sharing. I would revisit and recommend this place to friends.
You would near a car to get to places as it is remote location. We went to a farm shop which was a short drive way with a great spread of food, drinks and home items.

Super clean, lovely and cosy with the log burner, plenty of space. Good instructions and a really generous arrival basket with milk and wine! Great location with walks straight from the door. Very peaceful.
If I were to suggest one (small) thing, it would be a mattress topper on the master bed. But I am getting old!

Fantastic house with an unbeatable location We have stayed 5 days in the house visiting the different villages of Cotswolds and the location is fantastic since you are right in the middle, also close to Cirencester where you have supermarkets, restaurants etc. The house is surrounded by nature with paths to walk. Wonderful weekend away
Brilliant communication from start to finish. The cottage was spotlessly clean and comfortable and luxuriously fitted out. Everything that you needed to make the weekend a success was supplied, including plenty of logs for the fire, books and games, coffee machine, beautiful bedding, Smart TV. Everything looked brand new. Wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Lovely welcome pack on arrival including a bottle of fizz, which was a nice touch. Would definitely stay at this fabulous cottage again.

Mixed Feelings
"Field View" is difficult to find. The directions mention a dead-end sign but it is invisible as completely overgrown. The cottage is one of several houses very close together. Fortunately we were lucky to have quiet neighbours. Limited kitchen utensils; only one tea towel and one hand towel and no hook to hang them up on; no mop/broom for a quick clean. No handrail on the stairs to the 2nd floor bedroom& bathroom so not recommended for very young or elderly guests. On the positive side, the cottage was clean and comfortable and it has quality beds and bedlinen.

An idyllic country stay
Our stay at Field View was wonderful - the house is very comfortably appointed, and the location at the edge of a quiet village meant it was very peaceful. There was everything needed for our time there, and with Cirencester an easy 10 minute drive away, our holiday was well-balanced between time in a rural location with ready access to shops and things to do. A short winters trip
Just a two night family stay for us over some cooler winter weekend temps. Cottage was warm once we lit the fire etc, although I don't think anybody was staying in before. There are additional heaters available which we used in the kitchen to start with. Lovely basket of food goodies left which was a very nice touch - thank you. Great place, one we said we would use again.

Lovely cottage in a quiet out-of-the-way hamlet
We have just stayed for a week at the end of September. Very pleased with the cottage - it was very well equipped in the kitchen, and a lovely wood burner ( with logs provided) in the lounge. The electric heating worked well, and the wifi had a good internet connection. Bedrooms were comfy - there was nothing not to like, really ! The welcome basket was generous. Car parking was not outside the cottage, but only a few yars up the lane, and it was OK to drive up to the back door and unload. The location was a bit remote - at the end of a narrow lane, but to us, that was a positive. It was quiet, and there were interesting walks that could be done right from the cottage with no need to drive. (the woods at the bottom of the hill allowed people to use their tracks as well as the public footpaths). Shopping was at Cirencester, only just over 5 minutes away. Alll in all, a very nice place to stay.

A comfortable property peacefully located in the middle of nowhere!
A comfortable and characterful property situated in a quiet cluster of properties, very much in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by fields and woodland providing stunning, on the doorstep walks! Highlight during the day was meeting a herd of 15 deer in the woodland. At night, with zero light pollution whatsoever, the clear night skies were breath taking, including some pretty impressive shooting stars!
The log burner was a welcome warming focus point, although it would have been even better if the glass was clean which would have allowed the full beauty of the fire to be on show, rather than an orange glow through dense smoked glass!!
The facilities were good and a nice welcome pack too, however, the kitchen seemed to have everything we needed, except salt and pepper?? The bathrooms are spacious and well fitted, however, the bath took an eternity to empty and needs attending to and the en-suite on the top floor really should have a window covering!! Showering in full view of the morning walkers was not what we would choose to do!!
Overall, even though there were a few small niggles, we enjoyed staying at Field View and would happily stay again.

Beautiful place to stay
We absolutely loved staying at Field View. The house is so cosy and comfortable and full of character.
It was really sad to leave. We especially loved the wood burner and the amazing views from the bedrooms.
It was a little hard to find the cottage but that was more us being so excited and not reading the instructions carefully.
I couldnt recommend this home highly enough and would definitely come and stay again.

Needs some attention to detail
The property is in a very peaceful and pretty location. On arrival it looks like the photos on the website, however once you settle in you notice that it could do with some attention to detail, particularly in the bathrooms. In general the property could be lovely but could do with some work to ensure that everything is working properly as currently there are issues with both showers, and the chest of drawers in two bedrooms.
