Overview
This unique country bolthole is a place where new memories of great family holidays are made. Within just 30-minutes of Stratford-upon-Avon, Cheltenham and Blenheim Palace, Corn Close is tucked between charming Cotswold towns and villages.
Embracing its country house image, Corn Close has a relaxed and eclectic mix of traditional, antique and fun modern styling. Each room if sunny and bright with unique touches that make this a special place to stay. Overlooking the garden, you’ll spend time in the kitchen with its decorative blue tiling, perching on the window seat by the breakfast table with a coffee in hand. The living/dining room has a wonderful woodburning stove in an exposed stone surround, beyond which is a playroom with an electric piano and TV. Across the first floor are three bedrooms including a master bedroom with an en-suite and a charming old fireplace. Up on the second floor is a children’s bedroom with four single beds, the perfect hideaway for little ones.
Your stay at Corn Close really comes alive when you step outside. Two acres of south facing gardens can be made your own for playing croquet or football, throwing the ball for the dogs and there’s even a children’s swing. Sit around the firepit to roast marshmallows and tell spooky stories and as the sun goes down the skies fill with stars in this rural area.

Absolutely perfect stay - we were promptly called in the morning when the cleaner realised we’d left our wallet behind! Stunning cottage and location - thank you
Nancy
Beautiful accommodation very peaceful . Lots to do in the area
John
A very quiet location yet less than 10 minutes to Blockley village with an excellent shop and three restaurants. The house was much larger than we anticipated and worked really well for three generations age from 12 to 80+. It was spotlessly clean and beautifully warm even when the temperature dropped to zero during our stay. The kitchen was provided with plenty of good quality china and cooking utensils. We all enjoyed exploring several footpaths in the area and the teenagers loved the garden - their screens were barely looked at during our stay. Back inside the log burner was very welcome and the huge TV in the Den was a bonus for those of us following the winter Olympics. Margaret, the Housekeeper, quickly responded when we needed help. All our family loved it and hope to return.

New Year's Break in the Cotswolds

The location was great and the grounds extensive; perfect for our 3 children who spent a lot of time outdoors. The home itself was adequate from a comfort and condition point of view but was lacking in cleanliness. Overall our stay in this property was ok.

Christmas 2024

Corn close is amazing and very spacious, unfortunately when we arrived there were unmade beds and we had to clean all dishes and cups before using.
Other than that we had a great stay for Christmas and location was perfect with great views.

A bit shabby, but great location

Our arrival was not great: nobody had been to clean the property since the last guests. The kitchen was dirty, there were dead flies on the window sills, and dirty towels on the bathroom floor.
Bolthole unsuccessfully tried to find alternative accommodation, but then managed to get a person to come clean the house while we left for a few hours. The people I spoke to at Bolthole were very apologetic, and explained that there had been an issue with the usual cleaning agency.
We were finally able to return to the house at 21:00 (after arriving just after 16:00).
Our stay was otherwise fine, but the house is not in great shape: peeling paint on the window sills and fairly dirty cream carpeting add up to a slightly shabby feeling. The yard is big and lovely, and the location is very convenient to explore country walks and nice villages.
In the end, we received a very modest reduction in rate for the trouble we had on arrival--a sum less than the cost of the meal out that we had to have since the house wasn't ready. We've stayed with Bolthole a few times before, but will look elsewhere next time.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay at Corn Close and we are very disappointed to read the points that you have raised. We genuinely regret the disruption you experienced during your stay and understand how frustrating it must have been to deal with the cleaning issue upon arrival. We appreciate the inconvenience of coordinating with our team and the impact it had on your plans, especially having to go out for dinner. We did our best to resolve the issue as swiftly as possible and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again under better circumstances.

Great Location

Great location for visiting the Cotswolds. The accommodation was perfect for a relaxed few days. There are pretty walks from the doorstep and on your return, plenty of light airy space in the house to gather and chill. Decorated and equipped to a high standard.

A beautiful getaway location

We stayed at Corn Close for a long weekend as a group of ladies & it was great! House was beautiful & just what was needed for our weekend away to make it a home from home. There were a couple of small things that you would expect with it being a holiday home but nothing that would stop me from encouraging others to book this place for their future getaways in the Cotswolds!
Laura
Rural charm

Really enjoyed our stay. Relaxing location and plenty of space. Beautiful garden with rural views and walks straight from the door.

Beautiful cottage

We arrived at the end of the September heatwave to this beautiful property. The house was on a quiet country lane with very little traffic. The large enclosed garden was perfect for the dogs to explore and we enjoyed how private it was. The house itself was very comfortable with lovely seating areas to relax, and we were all happy with the comfy beds. The views from the windows were beautiful and we had a fantastic choice of walks from the door. Some minor points to address that could be improved: the main bedroom window monkey tail handle was snapped off, meaning it had to be wedged back in the latch to close the window. The bedside table door was broken/ poorly hung. Multiple windows and lintels were rotten and need to be looked at, it looked like some had already been mended. The main driveway gate does not close as the latch seemed to be broken/gone and we found it had swung open multiple times without us realising, therefore our dogs could have gone into the road. These were still very minor issues as the house was beautiful and we all said we would love to stay again.

Nice cottage on a top location

We had a lovely holiday at Corn Clos Cottage. Everything was well provided. It would be better when the bicycle stand is provided at the chelter instaed of in the front of the house. We arranged it ourselves protecting the expensive race cycles we had with us.
When I have to mention something negative ... It showed little respect for our peace that grass was mowed unannounced. A simple notification of this activity would have been better.

Beautiful house in the Cotswolds

This is the most beautiful house we've ever stayed in!
The house is beautifully renovated and decorated. It had everything we needed, and more.
Very spacious, rooms for everyone - we travelled with three kids.
The garden is huge, and well equipped. We enjoyed breakfasts at the dinner outside, we lit a small fire in the evening in the fire pit, the kids loved playing outside. There's a small crook just behind the house.
Beautiful kitchen, very nice to cook in. Cosy living room and family rooms. Loved the books and games. The attic is very sweet.
Great to have two bathrooms with both bath and shower.
The view from the house to the garden and fields behind is spectacular.
Only downsides are the beds, which are too soft to our taste, there's no air conditioning (as expected, but it was hot during our stay), and no stores/bakeries/restaurants in walking distance. But that's the charm of the house - it's a little isolated.
Supermarkets and restaurants are 10 minute drive from the place, so not too bad.
All in all - highly recommended! We just LOVED it.

A wonderful extended stay at Corn Close

Corn Close was a beautiful place stay for 18 nights. Margaret, the housekeeper was very friendly and responsive to our questions and concerns and it was a pleasure getting to know here. We appreciated being able to check in early and the sweet treats, tea, coffee, sugar, and milk that were there at the house when we arrived. The beds and furniture were comfortable. We especially enjoyed the morning sunlight in the kitchen each day, playing in the yard, listening to the sheep in a neighboring field, and taking quiet walks in the evening. Corn Close was a very comfortable, quiet, and a convenient home base for a family vacationing in the Cotswolds.

A perfect family retreat

Corn Close is a beautiful, comfortable, cosy house, which we fell in love with as soon as we stepped in the doorway. It has everything you would need and more. We always end up missing our own home comforts when staying away, yet this was our first - where we completely forgot we are not at home. It truly is an ultimate home from home retreat. Our kids and the dog loved their break and the garden in particular. Despite the occasional rain and the early spring chill in the air - we couldn't get them back inside. With plenty of our own outdoor amenities and even a brook to explore, we reluctantly made ourselves leave the cottage to explore the surrounding towns and the beauty of Cotswolds. There is so much to see and do just the short drive away, so even the location of Corn Close is spot on. Thank you to the owners for letting us enjoy their beautiful home and for the welcome cake, cookies and fresh flowers waiting for us upon arrival! ;)

Beautiful cottage

What a Beautiful Cottage in a very quiet lane. It was in an ideal position for us. The house and garden were lovely and dog friendly. If it's free we will be booking this property again. I have a few quick ideas to make it even more special. Connect the TV to an aerial socket to allow viewing of terrestrial TV rather than Netflix etc. Fit a shower screen or curtain in the en suite, repair the small hole in the plaster above the window seat in the lounge. These are very minor things and did not stop us enjoying the holiday. We all loved it.
Ian
Hi Ian, Thank you for your review and also for your feedback. The owner will be looking at the points you raised and will look at rectifying them. Kind regards Bolthole Retreats
