Stratford trip

My son and i had a great week , seeing three shows in stratford, visiting family and visiting three great national trust properties. The accomodation was fine, the open lounge was best part for late night movies.I had a great holiday but i have to mention a few things(not major). Two of the four hot tub jets were not working, the bathroom had quite a few cobwebs, no freezer compartment for keeping ice cream etc in fridge, woken up at ten one morning to a petrol mower cutting grass a few metres fom bedroom window, no tongs in kitchen. This is all pretty minor but for top money i expected better.thanks
lloyd
Thank you for your review. We are delighted to hear that you and your son had a great holiday, enjoyed your visits to Stratford, spent time with family, and explored some wonderful National Trust properties. It is also lovely to hear that the open-plan living space worked so well for your evenings together. We appreciate you taking the time to share your observations. We are sorry that certain aspects of the property fell short of your expectations. The maintenance issues you mention, including the hot tub jets and cobwebs, have been shared with the owner and housekeeping team for investigation and resolution. As a rural property, occasional grounds maintenance is sometimes necessary to keep the site looking its best for guests, although we are sorry if this disturbed your stay. We are pleased that these points did not prevent you from having a great week overall and creating some memorable experiences during your stay. Thank you again for your feedback.

Clean, cosy, homely cottage with Beautiful views and quiet surroundings. My 40th birthday request was a cosy cottage in the country with a hot tub & a gorgeous view, combine shed provided this and more, thank you for a lovely stay. We will definitely be returning for many years to come.

Lovely little Easter stay with the family…great location with nice walk into town which had had some great pubs/eating

Lovely Location, Enjoyable Stay, Just Needs a Little Refresh

We had a pleasant stay at the Combine Shed overall, but we did feel the property is starting to look a little tired and could benefit from some updates.
A few items seemed due for replacement, such as some of the pots and pans, and the sofas have noticeably lost their comfort. Also the carpet in front of the woodburner has suffered burn damage.
The shower appears to be fitted the wrong way around, with hot and cold reversed. Unfortunately, this meant our first experience of the water that was either too hot or too cold before we realised, which was concerning.
We also werent able to use the hot tub on our first evening. I understand its advised that it may not be ready until 7pm, however at 9pm it was still only 30 degrees, so it wasnt hot enough to use, which was disappointing.
While I appreciate its not guaranteed, it would have been a lovely touch to have a small amount of milk provided on arrival. The nearest shop is around a 10-minute drive away, so its not ideal when youve just arrived and would like a cup of tea. Similarly, three robes rather than two would have been helpful for using the hot tub, although we did appreciate that robes and towels were supplied.
Overall, we had a nice stay, but we do feel the property would benefit from a bit of a refresh and a few thoughtful updates to really enhance the experience.
Location wise, its a really lovely spot. The views from the garden and especially from the hot tub are beautiful. Theres a Co-op and a One Stop within a short drive, or around a 15-minute walk away, which is handy.
Its worth checking in advance whether the local pubs and restaurants are serving food, particularly out of peak season. When we visited in February, quite a few were either closed at the start of the week or not serving food on Mondays and Tuesdays, which we hadnt realised when we planned to eat out on the Tuesday evening.
I would highly recommend a visit to the Cottage of Content. Its about a 15-minute walk away. The walk can feel a little precarious late at night as there are no pavements, but the two publicans were very welcoming, offered great local recommendations, and the food was excellent. If wed stayed longer, we would definitely have gone back.
We also really enjoyed a meal at Balti Hot. The service was great and the curry was delicious. Its also about a 15-minute walk, this time with pavements the whole way, which makes it an easy option.
For days out, Warwick Castle is around a 40-minute drive and made for a fantastic day. If youre a National Trust member, Croome is well worth visiting. Wed also recommend a trip to Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the Venice of the Cotswolds, which is very picturesque.
Overall, its a great base for exploring the surrounding area.

Oosland Barn

The property was very comfortable and clean. The location was fantastic for our proposed visits, so our party all enjoyed a very pleasant weekend. The hot tub was a bonus even if there was persistent rain!
Jane
Very enjoyable few days away. Great Location. Kitchen well kitted out for self-catering. Walking distance from Bidford on Avon.

Ideal for our yearly reunion at Bidford Gliding Club

The Combine Shed is handy for us every year. Always clean and well equipped. We found the beds uncomfortable this year and let the owner know.

Ideal location for a family get together. Peaceful and relaxing with easy access to beautiful villages and countryside.

A pleasant barn conversion in a good location

Location wise the barn was very good, near routes but quiet and a delightful outlook. Easy access through farm to footpaths with lovely countryside and river walks. Either up the pavemented road or along footpaths into village, nice not to have to use your car all the time.Village provided all you need for stay and has great riverside pastures to enjoy. The barn had all the essentials and is in a good clean condition. It accomadated 4 but only 2 plus dog stayed which for comfort was right for us. The enclosed garden was safe for dog and lovely for outside eating etc. with good garden furniture. If I returned I would like to try an alternative barn at Oosland farm. A really nice break in a beautiful part of the country.
Janice
Clean and well maintained property

Clean and well maintained property - 5 stars
Double bed is a regular queen size - room would easily support a larger bed which would have been more comfortable but all other furnishings comfortable enough - 3 stars
Location really requires a car - 3 stars

Wonderful accommodation in great location

We had a wonderful time staying here with our daughter - the cot and highchair pack made it really straightforward for a holiday with a 1 year old. The location is perfect - a ten minute walk to get to the shops and pub in Bidford and a 15 minute drive to Stratford or to Cotswolds villages. The wood burner and hot tub made it a real treat to stay here every evening. Thank you!

Christmas 2024

Quiet location, spacious accommodation with everything we needed for our Xmas break. Beautiful decorated Xmas tree.
Very prompt replies to any questions we had prior to our stay.
The reason we have given 4 for some categories:
Cleanliness: Fire had not been cleaned from previous users, BBQ was also very dirty, cobwebs in Bathroom
Customer service: shortly before arrival we asked if we could drop bags off at 2pm rather than 3pm check in time however were advised that there would be a £20 surcharge.
Also description stated freezer compartment in fridge however it did not have one.
However these things aside we had a throughly enjoyable stay and would recommend the venue.
Keith

Perfect getaway

We had such a lovely time at the Combine Shed. We were promptly provided with a cot and high chair for the baby, there was ample space for the dog, and we were able to enjoy luxurious amenities like the log burner and hot tub. Found everything we needed easily, and enjoyed time to relax on a rainy weekend away from our normal responsibilities. Would hope to come back with the family again.

A perfect stay

A lovely, peaceful stay, would definitely come back. The view from the garden/hot tub is beautiful. Lots of thoughtful extras such as flip flops and robes for the hot tub, coffee pods and so on. Great location for exploring the Cotswolds, Stratford etc.
Jen
Peaceful and relaxing

We stayed for 4 weeks whist having building work done to our house. The owner was fab, super helpful if we needed anything but just left us to it which was great. We even took our cat with us. The location is gorgeous, really tranquil and peaceful. Walking is lovely, local pubs and shops easily accessible. Accommodation is comfy, well equipped and was a real home from home.
Melanie
Excellent stay!

We really enjoyed our long weekend here. The location made it very easy to travel around the Cotswolds and also visit Stratford-upon-Avon which is only 20mins away. The outlook over the fields is beautiful, we loved having our private garden and hot tub. The log burner is a lovely addition and it really did feel home from home.
Louise
A lovely property in an ideal location for exploring the Cotswolds and catching up with friends.

The property is neat and tidy and plenty big enough for 2 couples. The hot tub is a lovely addition. The criticisms would be the need to fix the curtain pole in the lounge - really messed with my engineer friend's mind, and also the cleaners need to look up, especially in the bathroom, and clear all the cobwebs away. It was also impossible to have a shower without making the floor very wet as the screen across the to of the bath wasn't long enough. Other than all that we would be happy to come back to the area and book the same property, or try one of the others on the farm.
Ian
Would book again

I booked a short break (2 nights) at the Combine Shed in Bidford on Avon. It was a superb place to stay :-) - very comfortable and everything we needed was there. The open lounge / dining / kitchen area was very spacious, light but still had a comfy feel. The kitchen itself had everything we needed for self catering for a few meals. The bedrooms were also very comfortable and I think we all slept well in the beds. Overall the place was clean and pleasantly decorated and offered a lovely retreat - in fact I said many times (to the kids annoyance I'm sure) that I would happily live in a place like this! The enclosed garden area was beautiful, backing on to large fields. The only thing that could perhaps have enhanced the stay would have been some comfy garden chairs or sun loungers to enjoy a good book with a glass of wine while overlooking the wonderful views.
Charlotte
2 night stay

We stayed here for 2 nights in June to visit Stratford upon Avon .
Lovely spacious property in quiet area. Bidford upon Avon had places to eat and takeaways
The property was ideal for our dog with a fully enclosed garden .
Facilities were good in the property . The wifi however never worked which was frustrating for us . That was only negative
Would recommend this property to others

Beautiful accommodation

Wonderful place to stay and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside. Accommodation is just beautiful, very homely and comfortable with everything you could possibly need. Our two large dogs enjoyed the ample garden and also the lovely walks along the river.

A great stay, with a great host!

I stayed for a total of 3 nights with my partner. On our arrival there were a few unexpected issues with the property which led to me calling up the owner, Kate, late at night (10pm-ish!). Kate picked up and immediately came round to the property to try and sort the issues, and offered us a stay in one of her other properties instead to give her time to fix the problems. I was really impressed with Kates speed in coming round as well as her kind and friendly attitude.
We ended up staying in Owls End - the property next door, and we had no qualms whatsoever! The place was very cosy, and is perfect for either one or two couples to stay. We really enjoyed the open fire and Kate had left lots of wood and firelighters out so we could enjoy the fire the whole weekend. The TV was great too and having Netflix was definitely a plus!
Overall we had a fantastic stay and it was really down to Kates amazing attitude that meant we had a great time. Would definitely recommend the property we stayed in and would certainly recommend Kate as a host!
Alex
Dear Alex, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your stay and the assistance given by Kate. We will make sure Kate sees your feedback as know it will mean a lot to her. Kind regards Bolthole Retreats

Fantastic place to stay

The Combine Shed has to be one of the best self-catering units I've stayed in. Very clean, well equipped, close to all the amenities that we needed. A few minor niggles - the coffee machine didn't work, and no instruction books for appliances, etc, but overall it was truly excellent. I would highly recommend this property to anyone considering it.
David
Thank you for leaving your review David. The owner is aware of your niggles and looking into them. We hope you can come again! Best wishes Bolthole Retreats

Pleasant and peaceful

The Combine shed provided a very pleasant and peaceful break for 4 adults (and dog). A short walk to the town for shops, pubs and the river. Facilities at the property were more than adequate for self catering and the garden was secure for the dog to roam. Would definitely stay again and reccomend to others
