Overview
Stepping into Canons Court Lodge for the first time is a delightful surprise. Its unassuming exterior hides the impressive entrance hall which greets you. A grand staircase stretches before you as you wander the well-worn stone floor, rich in history and with stories to tell. Unusual light fittings and a grandfather clock hint at the character here.
Canons Court Lodge is made for entertaining with a spacious kitchen/diner and large living room. Dress the dining table for decadent meals together or take them outside to be enjoyed in the garden. The wood burner in the kitchen adds a warming atmosphere to your days and makes this feel like home. Gather in the first floor living room with its corner sofa, perfect for conversations and games of charades. With table football, giant connect four and Jenga there is plenty on offer to keep you entertained. Two bedrooms are on the second floor and two are on the ground floor, perfect for accommodating two families and providing space for couples.
Outside, the garden is a fantastic space for those staying with children and dogs. A secure lawned area has plenty of space to play fetch and for children to run wild. There is a barbecue and room to dine outside so you can make the most of sunny weather.
Ground Floor
Kitchen/Diner:
The dual aspect kitchen/diner has large, shuttered windows which flood the room with light. At one side is the dining area with a spacious table seating eight. In the kitchen is a large oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge, and a central island with space to prepare meals. Store your supplies here and in the additional fridge/freezer in the utility. There is a sofa so you can keep the chef of the group company and a wood burner provides heat on cooler nights.
Utility:
Towards the back of the house there is a handy utility nestled into a corner of the hallway with a sink, washer/dryer and fridge/freezer. Near an external door you can bring your dogs in here to wash off muddy paws.
Bathroom:
The ground floor bathroom is a surprising feature of the house. Beautifully tiled, the Japanese bath is an unusual addition. Known as a soaking bath it is deeper than a standard bath and is square. Alongside is a separate shower cubicle with both a handheld and rainfall shower head, sink and WC.
Bedroom Three:
This double bedroom has a view out to the garden and is a lovely place to wake in the morning. You can unpack your suitcases and stow everything away in the built-in wardrobe.
Bedroom Four:
With twin beds this would be a great option for children whose parents are in the room next door. Two single beds sit at either side with a central chest acting as a bedside table. There is also a hanging rail and a chest of drawers.
First Floor
Living Room:
The living room is half games room, half sitting room. By the woodburning stove is a large sofa and the Smart TV. Behind this sits two additional sofas and a selection of books and games including table football. While part of your group watches a film the others can amuse themselves with a board game.
Shower Room:
This shower room will mainly be used by those staying in bedroom two and has a shower with a rainfall and hand-held shower head, WC and sink.
Second Floor
Bedroom One:
The gorgeous master bedroom with a super king-size bed is a break away from the everyday. The high ceiling and its open beams surround you and fairy lights add to the mystical atmosphere. With wooden floors and antique furniture this is a relaxing space to enjoy long lie ins. This bedroom also has the added benefit of a walk-in wardrobe.
En-Suite:
Bedroom one is the only option with an en-suite and there is a shower cubicle with a rainfall and hand-held shower head, WC and sink.
Bedroom Two:
In this bedroom the double bed sits beneath the eaves beside and old fireplace. A more compact room there is still storage space, and it is a pleasantly quiet room.
Outside
The gently sloping enclosed lawn is tucked away to the side of the house and has a table and chairs seating eight. With both a charcoal BBQ and a fire pit it is perfect for a grilled feast on a summer’s day or drinks around the firepit as the sun goes down.

Our host was very accommodating over a request we made. The house was a lovely old delight. Plenty of space for 8 people. Well presented including Christmas decorations. Clean & tidy. Plenty of cutlery & crockery so we didn't have to keep washing up. Parking was fine.
Judith
Lovely stay at Canons Court Lodge. Easy to get in, and great cleanliness throughout the properly. Great contact as well - I needed to ask a question to locate something and the housekeeper replied to me within 10 mins. Would definitely recommend this place to my friends.
Julia
A wonderful family friendly place

We had a gorgeous time at Canons Court Lodge. The house was absolutely beautiful and had lots of space to spread out to. We loved the table football and games selection and the cosiness. We loved playing board games on the big dining table and cooking food in the lovely kitchen.

Short family stay

Accommodation was very suitable for a mixed group of adults with enough seclusion, shower facilities etc.
Plenty of crockery and glassware etc for meals. Oven fine. Freezer in utility area unusable as it looked as though it had not been defrosted in years and seemed full of (maybe?) ice packs?
We were out of the house for most of the five days we actually stayed as we were at a family wedding in the area: it probably does suit families with dogs, children etc as the living area furnishing was quite basic.
Bathrooms fine in terms of cleanliness. Can only speak personally for the master bedroom but the other family members said they slept well so I would have to assume all beds comfortable.
Disappointments: living room - in August - smelt stale and under-cleaned, to the extent that we sat around kitchen table instead. Not sure how often the various throws in the living room have been cleaned? The bedroom furniture in main bedroom dusty; blinds in main bedroom old and frayed in places.
Missed opportunities: if you are selling a rental as being upmarket - which I think is the aim - could you a) tidy up the front and back gardens a bit?! And could you even think of providing a pint of milk and some better teabags/coffee as a starter pack (as opposed to the budget hotel tray of sachets)?
Parking was OK for two cars, although our second designated space was stolen on our last day.
So, a characterful house which I think could benefit from some TLC. However, I think families with children and dogs would be fine.

Thank you for taking your time on sharing your thoughts with us on your recent stay at Canons Court Lodge. We have shared your valuable feedback with the property owner. Regarding the living room, we’ve never received any complaints about this area before. The blankets had recently been cleaned, as previous guests had used them in the garden. The dust issue in the main bedroom will be checked. The blinds in that room were only recently replaced. Occasionally, the mechanism can come slightly loose, causing them to hang unevenly, but this can usually be resolved by adjusting the mechanism. As for the welcome supplies, the owner has taken your feedback on board and this is being looked into. The driveway can accommodate two cars. Any additional vehicles would need to use the designated visitor parking. The owners have let us know that they stayed in the property just before your arrival, and they ensured the garden was tidied. However, due to the recent lack of rainfall, the plants and lawn may not be looking their best at the moment. We do hope to welcome you back to the Cotswolds in the future.

We were staying while attending a wedding at Kingscote Manor in Tetbury. Loved our stay. Beautiful home and lovely countryside. Maybe we can come back sometime and bring our dogs. Wotton Under Edge is very pretty with charming gift shops. We also recommend The India Palace restaurant.
Mark
We had a wonderful stay with 3 generations in this house. There was plenty of space to hang out!
Ann
Great house for a 3 generational stay with 2 dogs. easy to get out to other locations and the house was a great size. The house was lovely and clean, and there was a fantastic list of things to do in the welcome pack, though we definitely didn't stay long enough to do them all! Would recommend on to friends and family for anyone looking for a Cotswold stay.
Charlotte
We have had a lovely family stay for a special birthday celebration. The house was a good size for us all and well equipped & comfortable. Thank you!
Jill
We had a great time staying at Canons Court, the house was even nicer than the photos. It's in a great location with lots to do nearby, and the recommendations were perfect and helped us to explore the area. We enjoyed spending time in the garden, and there's lot's of space inside as well.
Katy
Stayed here with friends to go to a wedding at De Vere Tortworth Court. Perfect for our celebratory weekend. Just what we needed!

Lovely cottage well stocked

We stayed over Easter, as two families of four. There are nice walks from the door and lots to visit nearby. The farm shop is excellent and had many bits we needed for our stay.
The cottage is very spacious with nice well maintained communal areas and the owner ensured the basics were all there when we arrived. She was very helpful and communicative when I contacted her about minor issues that were resolved immediately.
Katie
Thank you for a fantastic stay. We loved the house and the garden.
Rebecca
Lovely property for a friends gathering

Lovely property, located in a rural setting. Large secure garden for dogs and small children.
Easy route to and from motorway.
Lovely walk up to the farm shop.

This is a lovely place with lots of character. Perfect for a group stay and close to where we needed to be.
Alice
Nice and spacious accommodation in a good location

We had to find somewhere last minute and this was a really nice option for us. Its relatively close to the shops and we really liked the farm shop nearby. The garden was great for the dogs and we liked that it had three bathrooms. The only down side was the beds in the house were just too small and uncomfortable. I could hear and feel the spring every single time I moved ever so slightly :( The friends who stayed with me also complained about the bed and how some sofas in the house is uncomfortable. We also could not in get touch with the owner during our stay. We managed to sort things out but it wouldve been nice to be able to ask questions. There was also noise coming from the next door - not sure if they had renovation work going on but it was just a little noisy during the day.
Overall it was a pleasant stay
