Your Guide to
Thame, Chinnor and Princes Risborough

“The Edge of the Chilterns”
Thame, Chinnor and Princes Risborough sit on the edge of the Chilterns amongst rural Oxfordshire countryside. The largest of the three, Thame, is a historic market town which still hosts Tuesday markets to this day. Filling the streets with fruit, vegetables, meat and bread alongside specialty stalls it is a wonderful way to experience the local community. Strolling the streets you pass the Grade II listed town hall and can spot the gargoyles on the ancient church. You can also explore the Cuttlebrook Nature Reserve following the short circular walk through the meadow keeping an eye out for wildlife along the way.
Smaller Princes Risborough can be reached from Thame along the Phoenix Trail, a 5-mile path suitable for walkers, cyclists, wheelchair users and horse riders. It weaves through the countryside giving you great views of the Chilterns along the way. Princes Risborough is home to the steam railway line and in September you can see some slightly more unusual forms of transport at the Kop Hill Climb.
Chinnor might be better known to you as Midsomer, as it was a filming location for the popular TV series Midsomer Murders. The now disused quarries were also seen in Die Another Day surrounded by explosions and machine gun fire. Today it is a much calmer scene where you can wander to the bakery, stay for lunch at the pub and watch the graceful arms of the Chinnor windmill as they drift past.
We hope you enjoy your stay in this much-loved part of Oxfordshire. To help you plan your days we’ve put together a collection of our favourite experiences, so you can make the most of Thame, Chinnor and Princes Risborough.
