‘One of the best places to live in the English Countryside’
Henley-on-Thames, recently named one of the best places to live in the English countryside by The Times, is the epitome of riverside beauty and relaxation. Surrounded by the stunning Chiltern Hills, with its charming streets, historic pubs (including one where Charles I once drank!), and independent shops, Henley invites you to enjoy long lunches and leisurely shopping.
This picturesque town is also a regular winner of RHS Britain in Bloom medals and home to a famous TV detective. Henley is perhaps most renowned for hosting the Henley Royal Regatta, one of the world’s most prestigious events, a tradition that began right in the Town Hall. With its mix of history, nature, and culture, Henley offers the perfect riverside retreat. Also twinned with Falaise, Leichlingen, and Bled, Henley’s international charm is as strong as its local allure!
Nestled along the Thames and surrounded by the lush meadows of the river valley and the woodlands of the Chiltern Hills, Marlow is a riverside gem. Voted the UK’s “coolest” place to live by Naturecan, this vibrant Georgian market town has it all – history, charm, and a dash of glamour.
With its historic streets lined with boutique shops, quirky cafes, and trendy bistros, Marlow offers a unique blend of old-world elegance and modern flair. The iconic suspension bridge, designed by William Tierney Clark in 1832, connects Buckinghamshire and Berkshire – a true landmark of the town.
Once a fashionable retreat for famous figures like Mary Shelley (who wrote Frankenstein here!), Marlow has long been a hotspot for creatives and athletes alike. Home to one of the UK’s top rowing clubs, it’s no surprise Sir Steve Redgrave’s statue graces Higginson Park.
