Named after Emma Dent, who was responsible for the restoration of Sudeley Castle in the 19th century, as well as providing the town of Winchcombe with its first piped water supply in celebration of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887. It is to Emma Dent that we owe the splendour of Sudeley Castle as it stands today and for almost half a century, she dedicated her life to the castle including laying out the gardens and the planting of the magnificent yew hedges. This is a rambling-rose-covered cottage tucked into the corner of the Sudeley Castle Cottage complex. It’s the perfect base from which to explore the elegant town of Winchcombe, the splendour of Sudeley Castle and its magical gardens as well as the beautiful landscapes of the surrounding Cotswolds. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sofa bed, there is plenty of space to relax, whilst outside is a private courtyard.

During your stay, you are entitled to free admission to Sudeley Castle and Gardens during the Castle’s open season (except for separately ticketed events).

Overview

Emma Dent cottage forms part of the Sudeley Castle Cottage complex, which is just a short walk from the centre of Winchcombe. Everything you need is on the doorstep and with Winchcombe being a ‘walker’s welcome’ town, there is much to explore on foot.

On the ground floor, you’ll find an open-plan dining and well-appointed kitchen area, with a door to the courtyard. The living area is a light, bright and airy space with plenty of seating and French doors to the courtyard. There is also a useful ground floor cloakroom. Upstairs are two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.

The private courtyard behind the cottage has seating for alfresco dining and a charcoal barbecue. The cottage complex benefits from large car parking with plenty of spaces.

Ground Floor

The ground floor of Emma Dent Cottage features a bright and light open-plan area, furnished with English country cottage fabrics and light oak furniture.

Dining Area:
The centrepiece of the dining area is an oak dining table and chairs to comfortably seat 6.

To the left of the dining area is an understairs cupboard housing a travel cot, stair gate, highchair, iron, ironing board, airer, and bedding for the sofa bed. A spacious W.C. with sink featuring sage-grey Shaker-style panelling is next to the understair cupboard - a handy facility for guests using the sofa bed.

Kitchen:
The fully equipped kitchen has a country-cottage feel, with fresh off-white coloured cabinets and wooden work surfaces. The kitchen has all the appliances, cookware, crockery and glassware you need for a self-catering holiday, including a Neff cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and Nespresso coffee machine.

Living Area:
Down a couple of steps from the kitchen, the triple-aspect living area is wonderfully light yet cosy and features two large, sink-in sofas (one is a sofa bed) and a comfy armchair, plus a coffee table, and a large Samsung Smart TV. French doors lead out to the courtyard with seating and chairs and a charcoal barbecue, the perfect spot for an evening drink after a day exploring the estate or wider Cotswolds.

First Floor

Carpeted stairs with a handrail lead upstairs to the two en-suite bedrooms:

Bedroom One:

Along the landing and down a couple of steps you’ll find the king-size double bedroom with a very spacious en-suite. The bedroom windows look out down the length of the main Sudeley courtyard, providing a great view of all the cottages. The bedroom is furnished with a small built-in hanging cupboard, a full-length mirror, bedside tables and handy overbed lights with reading and room lighting.

En-Suite Bathroom:
A single step leads up into the spacious en-suite, featuring a walk-in shower, heated towel rail, a large sink with a mirror, shaver powerpoint, a storage cupboard (ideal for luggage) and a vanity storage unit for bathroom accessories.

Bedroom Two:
Cross the landing and down a couple of steps as you enter the pretty en-suite twin bedroom, featuring two oak frame beds and a lovely view out over woodland. The bedroom is furnished with a large built-in hanging cupboard, a central bedside table and individual overbed lights with reading and room lighting.

En-Suite Bathroom:
This en-suite bathroom features a large, walk-in shower (with overhead and hand-held shower), dual flush W.C., a large sink and a heated towel rail.

Outside

There is a private courtyard with seating and a charcoal barbecue (please bring your own charcoal) to the rear of the cottage. There is ample parking in the cottage complex car park.

Great location for the town and the castle. Really nice cottage sleeping our family. Only minor issues are a very loose tap in the bedroom and some general areas of paintwork that need attention.

Excellent Festival Accommodation

Verified Up Front Reviews
We are a group of 4 Racegoers who were staying at the Sudeley Cottages for the second time. The accommodation and location close to the Winchcombe facilities and travel to the Cheltenham Racecourse makes this a must for those attending Race Meetings. We have already booked accommodation for the 2027 event.

Beautiful!

A lovely, well equipped cottage. Perfectly placed for Sudley Castle. There are pubs and cafés within walking distance, would recommend the White Hart for a delicious evening meal!

Jackie

Great venue and location.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Cottages, and we love them! The location within the village and on the grounds of the Castle make it a memorable stay.

Perfect stay

We were 2 couples staying in the cottage which was perfect for us. Easy walk to town for pubs restaurants and shops. We visited Snowshill Manor and Cheltenham races.

Cynthia

A comfortable, welcoming cottage.

Verified Up Front Reviews
The cottage is well organised and equipped. It is comfortable and has a welcoming atmosphere. A quick walk from the cottage takes you to Sudeley Castle and gardens. It was easy to access shops, go out for coffee and enjoy good food in Winchcombe. Plenty of opportunities for walking. All on the doorstep! We had a very pleasant stay and would consider staying there again.

Long weekend in September

Verified Up Front Reviews
This property was beautiful, peaceful and very well equipped for our 4 adults for a comfortable stay Fri-Tues, mid September. It suited our two generations and we loved the short, 5 min slightly uphill, walk to the high street where we tried two good food pubs and a fabulous Indian restaurant. We recommend booking as restaurants were very busy every night! We did not have the best weather but had plenty to do within a short drive and Sudeley Castle had far more to do than we expected, a bonus to have that included within our stay. A great break thank you!

Elizabeth

Luxury property but beware early check out time !

Verified Up Front Reviews
The property is excellent . Considering the rental price the check in and check out times (4pm and 10am) are rather ungenerous in my opinion.

Stephanie

Clean, convenient, and comfortable

Verified Up Front Reviews
The Emma Dent Cottage made our trip to the Cotswolds wonderful. The included Sudeley Castle tickets were a fabulous addition. Highly recommend the site and cottage.

Andrea

It is a cute place that was very convenient to the Sudeley castle where we attended a wedding.

Verified Up Front Reviews
There were several issues with the cottage. First, the cold water faucet in our bedroom bathroom did not turn the water on. We had to call and the man said the faucet needed to be turned all the way for it to work. This was not obvious to us. Second, the shower head would not stay up on the bar so you had to either bend down to take a shower or hold the shower wand by hand. Third, the first floor bathroom door did not close. Other than these issues, we enjoyed our stay.

Comfy cottage in a prime location

Verified Up Front Reviews
Our family of 4 enjoyed our recent 5-night stay at the Emma Dent cottage. The cottage is cozy and well-equipped with all the modern conveniences. Although there are other cottages on the premises, we found it to be quiet with enough privacy. We loved the location in Winchcombe, with easy access to Sudeley castle.

Laura

An excellant place to stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
The Emma Dent cottage is a wonderful optimization of space and comfort. The living room, dining area and kitchen are very spacious, and the upstairs bedrooms very comfortable. The bathrooms are well lit, very modern and the showers are, frankly, very appealing after a day of tramping. The location is superb, easy walking distance to all of Winchcombe. We couldn't have asked for a better place to anchor our wanderings between Broadway and Bourton. We will certainly reserve it again.

Steven

The cottage was very comfortable and tastefully furnished.

Verified Up Front Reviews
Everything was good apart from the supply of mugs- there were only 5 for a property that says it is for up to 6 people- and likewise only 5 teacups- which is not sufficient. The only criticism.

Jane

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay at Emma Dent Cottage. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Emma Dent

Verified Up Front Reviews
We stayed in Emma Dent at Sudeley Castle Cottages for a week in September. The cottage was lovely and clean, the kitchen was very well appointed and there was a lot of space. The double mattress in the master bedroom was a bit lumpy and perhaps in need of an update. Not having an onsite representative was challenging when we needed more dishwasher pods but the cleaning staff re-stocked us with no problems when we found them in the courtyard. Our only issue during our stay was very loud and inconsiderate wedding party who returned to the site at 0130 and proceeded to continue their party under our window. Again, not having anyone on site to police the revelers meant that we were woken up and had to address them ourselves, We would absolutely recommend the Sudeley Castle Cottages, although cannot comment on the shared buildings since Emma Dent is an individual stand-alone cottage. Looking forward to returning to Winchcombe and the Cotswolds someday!

Kristin

Great break

Verified Up Front Reviews
Cottage was very well equipped and furnished, a lot of thought had obviously gone into the interior design. The kitchen had all things necessary for simple or complex meal prep and having the cleaning kit was really helpful. Location was great, a short walk to the lovely village of Winchcome and also to Sudley castle. It was a lovely bonus to have free access to the castle which is definitely worth a visit. It was a great break and is definitely in my list to re-visit.

Guest

Great little house in a beautiful location.

Verified Up Front Reviews
House clean and tidy with good size tv, a couple of games, books and plenty of kitchen equipment. Outside area had a bbq with picnic bench but was not ready for us to use. Upstairs bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms lovely and beds comfortable. Plenty of towels and complimentary toiletries. Lounge was a good size for a family as used the sofa bed and there was plenty of room. Mattress on sofa bed a little worn but if being used for small children it would be more than adequate.

Fantastic stay.

Verified Up Front Reviews
I stayed for two nights in the Emma Dent cottage. The cottage is clean and in a quiet location. There is an open plan kitchen/living room, plus downstairs toilet. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom. One room has a double bed, and the other two single beds. The shower is large and you are supplied with toiletries. In the kitchen there is a pint of milk in the fridge, plus tea/coffee and mints. The cottage is a short walk from Sudeley castle and entry is free if you show your key/proof of staying at a cottage. I also recommend asking to do the tour at £5. The cottage is also a short walk away from some restaurants, so although you can self-cater, you can easily also eat out. For entry, you let yourself in, as you will be given a key code to retrieve the front door key. I very much enjoyed the Emma Dent cottage. I intent to book it again for next year as I found it ideal.

Victoria

Lovely cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
We loved this cottage. It's beautiful inside and out. The location is perfect -- a walk of less than 5 minutes to the center of Winchcombe, but in a lovely quiet cul-de-sac with a few other pretty cottages. Small private parking area with plenty of spaces. The downstairs -- living room, dining area and kitchen -- is very spacious and nicely furnished, with all the modern conveniences. The upstairs bedrooms are quite small. There is a closet in each, but no drawers for storing clothes. Perhaps the hosts will consider putting a small dresser in the closet. Overall, we were very happy with our choice.

Linda

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay at Emma Dent. We are very glad to hear that you liked the property and the location. Your feedback regarding drawers has been shared with the property manager who has taken your points onboard and these will be looked into.

Beautiful cottage near Sudely Castle

Verified Up Front Reviews
We stayed as a family; grown up children and parents. We went to Giffords Circus who were performing at the castle. This beautiful cottage was the perfect location. The village is fabulous. We are vegan and there are plenty of vegan food offerings to choose from. It is easy to cook in the cottage too as the equipment provided was excellent. The rooms are both ensure and there is plenty of space both inside and outside to hang out in. Fabulous thank you.

Samantha

So far, so soft

Verified Up Front Reviews
In a nutshell, Emma Dent provided excellent accommodation. It is very well equipped, particularly the kitchen. It was clean, fresh. Against a raft of positives we would mention two things to possibly think about. 1. There are two green sofas in the lounge. They are both very soft and after a short while start to become uncomfortable. Our recommendation would be to either change the cushion filing or replace one of the sofas with one more armchair. 2. There is limited space in the main bedroom between the bed, the wall and the radiator. Painful when you catch the radiator getting to the bathroom in the dark. Would happily stay there again.

Richard

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay at Emma Dent. We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and found the cottage to be well-equipped. We have shared your feedback regarding the sofas with the property manager who has taken this onboard and it will be looked into. The space between the bed wall and radiator in the bedroom is shown in our photos and also on the 3D tour.

Perfect Stay for a Cotswolds Vacation

Verified Up Front Reviews
Our family recently stayed at the Emma Dent cottage. The cottage itself was exactly what we wanted and had everything we needed. The kitchen was fully stocked for all our cooking needs, bedrooms and bathrooms were great. Upon arriving we were greeted with a lovely note and some treats including lots of tea and coffee and some milk in the fridge. This was the perfect base to explore The Cotswolds. It's a short walk to the High Street with several options for food and beverage. I would definitely stay here again on our next trip to the area.

Cosy cottage in great location

Verified Up Front Reviews
We were very pleased with our recent stay in Emma Dent cottage. In a small development of other rentals it was like stepping back in time. The cottage was spotless, looked like it had been recently refurbished. Very well stocked with everything you would need. Perfect for a short break, within easy walking distance of the lovely town of Winchcombe. Our only criticism was a lack of drawer space in the bedrooms. Lovely little courtyard for enjoying a glass of wine. We had one small problem which was resolved immediately by a call to the office. Free entry to Sudeley castle was an added bonus. Would thoroughly recommend these cottages.

A nice detached house with two bedrooms and separate bathrooms. Everything you need for a comfortable stay is there is this efficient home . The kitchen is well equipped, dining table and chairs for our family of four. The Living room sits up to 6. It is located close to both Sudeley Castle and the town, an excellent location.

Very good

Verified Up Front Reviews
Cottage excellent. Just a few downsides - not much storage space upstairs and the bedroom felt quite squashed with the 5ft bed in it. Also the two steps into the bedrooms were hazardous. Nice to have a tray set out for us and milk in the fridge. The cottage was very well equipped, the patio superb and the big shower was great.

Great location

Verified Up Front Reviews
We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Emma Dent cottage which we found to be very comfortable and superbly placed for both Sudeley Castle and Winchcombe town as well as walks in the surrounding countryside. We very much appreciated the early check in and would love to return. Just one friendly suggestion - more dishes, plates etc should be provided as this would save on your dishwasher costs! Only five dishes for four people isn’t enough - 12 would mean the dishwasher only needs to go on once a day instead of at least twice, saving power and the planet! But this is a common issue in self catering properties. Thank you again

Superb cottage

We actually rented Emma Dent for 2 weeks as a base for touring manor houses and castles. The cottage experience far surpassed our normal style of moving from one B&B to another. Very comfortable and private. We highly recommend The Plough Inn for meals.

Very enjoyable stay on the whole.

Verified Up Front Reviews
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Emma Dent. The accommodation is excellent. We were disappointed about the building work and scaffolding right next door and the loss of a nice seating area as no one could describe sitting at the back as pleasant. Also we were woken early and overlooked in the back bedroom. It did not spoil our holiday, but I think we should have been alerted to the situation beforehand.

Ann

Thank you for your review. Apologies that you were not aware of the building work prior to your arrival. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay.

An excellent stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
Beautiful group of cottages walking distance from both the charming village and Sudeley castle with its stunning gardens. The cottage (Emma Dent) was very well appointment and brand new but in a typical Cotswolds style. It’s free on 4 sides but overlooking a charming courtyard where also the other cottages are. A few walks seem to start right next to the cottages or in the immediate proximity. The construction site mentioned in the brochure is right beside Emma Dent cottage so maybe it’s a bit noisy at the moment during the week. It hasn’t affected me since I arrived on Friday afternoon. I definitely recommend it.

We had a wonderful time staying in the Emma Dent cottage, with my brother and his family staying next door in Queen Mary cottage. A short break

Verified Up Front Reviews
I booked the cottage for my son and family when they visited us in Winchcombe as we do not have much room for them all. They loved it and made use of their free admission to the castle. The little girls wanted to stay for ever in their "little house" and I wish they could! Folkestone is a very long way from Granny! They loved their room and there was a cot for the baby too. My son said it was like living in a film set, very beautiful!

This is a lovely cottage, clean& comfortable. Light, airy modern bathrooms. The kitchen is modern with up to date appliances and Neff induction hob for cooking, which is very quick and responsive. Dark and cold

Verified Up Front Reviews
We love Winchombe and Sudeley castle, so the location of Emma Dent was perfect. However we won't be returning because the house is very dark even on the sunniest days. We were lucky to have an outside temperature of 30 degrees but the house remained cold. There is very little outside space and what there is was not well-tended and has tatty chairs. The two bedrooms are very small, but did have generous en-suite bathrooms. I felt the glossy photos of the house online made the house look much brighter and larger than the reality. Overall the house felt a bit neglected inside and out. We have rated customer service at only 2 because we couldn't get through on the phone to the office when we needed to report a malfunctioning toilet (although we may have been successful in leaving a voicemail - not sure).

Family weekend

Verified Up Front Reviews
We had booked this cottage for a family wedding, which then had to move. We kept the bookings to have a family get together anyway, and we are glad we did. The cottage was lovely and a great place to stay. Our family were staying in other cottages close by so this was great for us to get together each night. We enjoyed Sudeley Castle, which was only a short way away, and it was very welcome to have the entry included with the accommodation cost. A great stay in a lovely cottage.

Mark

Hi Mark, Thank you so much for your review and feedback - we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Kind regards, BoltholeRetreats

Great Stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
Excellent property in an enviable location, close to the charming Town with very quiet clean and comfortable accommodation, however we did miss the seating as in the outside photograph. Lots of walking and places to visit, the Elephants displayed at Sudeley Castle were a magnificent site.

Fantastic stay in a beautiful cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
We had a fantastic 3 nights staying at Emma Dent cottage. The cottage was perfect for us as 3 friends with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Kitchen and living area is great and we loved the location. Free entry to the castle was great and Winchcombe has some lovely pubs too, aswell as being a short drive from lots of other lovely little towns. We just wish we had stayed longer!

Gemma

Hi Gemma, we are very happy to read your lovely review and so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We are curious about your rating for the location and wondered how that could be improved from a 3/5 to a 5/5? We look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes, Bolthole Retreats

a couples three night stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
The cottage was everything we expected and as described on the website. It was spotlessly clean, very well equipped, very comfortable and in an idyllic spot. The only very slight negative is that the tv is up on the wall which means that sitting on the sofa you have to tilt your head back which is uncomfortable if you have neck problems. The space underneath the tv is completely empty with plenty of space to put in a tv unit and place the tv on the unit. For this reason we have not booked Emma Dent for next year but have booked one of the other cottages with tv at eye level on a tv unit.

Absolutely beautiful cottage in a great location!

Verified Up Front Reviews
The cottage itself was beautiful and traditional but with all the mod-cons we needed. It was immaculately clean and was a very welcome and cosy sight after a day of hiking in the local area! We hope to be back very soon!

Delightful cottage in excellent location as so close the Winchcombe. Cottage was very well equipped & spotlessly clean. Looking forward to a return visit sometime & will definitely recommend.

Great base for the Cotswolds

Verified Up Front Reviews
Emma Dent cottage provided an excellent base for our stay in the Cotswolds. It is also one of the best equipped cottages we have ever stayed at. The complimentary pass to Sudeley castle was also very welcome. Highly recommended.

Lovely cottage in a stunning location

Verified Up Front Reviews
Cottage was spotlessly clean and well equipped. Beautiful quiet location. Village is lovely with several cafes, pubs, takeaways and the nicest coop I’ve ever been to! Stunning countryside and walks right from the cottage. Free entry to Sudeley Castle a great bonus. Issue with one of the showers and maintenance were around within 10mins to sort it out. Only criticism is the ‘WiFi’ which is a shared unsecured network for all the cottages and is utterly useless - can just about load Facebook and emails but not able to stream anything and kept cutting out. No good for teenagers! Not much 4G signal either. Couldn’t even reliably load websites for local walks or pubs. Such a shame as otherwise would have definitely been back here again.

Zoe

Very comfortable stay

Verified Up Front Reviews
We have been to this cottage several times. We always find it very comfortable and warm. The location is excellent just down from the village and across the fields to the castle. Good showers. Nice towels. Nespresso machine. Good size fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. Induction hob takes a bit of working out. Winchcombe is a lovely village.

The Delightful Emma Dent Cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
A spotlessly clean cottage with every amenity to a high standard and all that is required to enjoy a stress free, peaceful holiday. The location is perfect, it feels very safe and is within easy reach of all the Cotswold attractions. Situated within walking distance of the superb Sudeley Castle is a much valued bonus. Very well recommended

Beautiful location and cottage that didn’t meet the high standard

Verified Up Front Reviews
The surrounding and the cottage is really very lovely. Boltholt advertise of high standard, and partially it met this standard during our visit. However, the lights didn’t work properly. So an electrian had to be send in. The heating wasn’t working. We needed during the evenings blankets to keep us warm. And finally the WiFi was very very poor. Most of the time we couldn’t use our iPads to look up Gardens to visit, etc. And for a stay of almost £ 1,000 it is very disappointing.

Emile

Lovely!

Verified Up Front Reviews
Very pretty cottage surrounded by similar properties in a quit location. It almost feels like you are staying in a Cotswolds based film set! Spotlessly clean and well equipped. Only thing to bear in mind is that the outdoor space is minimal, albeit adequate for outdoor eating. Also don't go into the first pub you come to on Castle Street for food...there are much, much better ones and cafes within a couple of minutes walk

Another happy return.

Verified Up Front Reviews
My family has enjoyed many breaks at Sudeley in the last few years and although this was the first one since my husband died last year it was good to be back, Emma Dent has been very nicely brought up to date since we last stayed there and my grandchildren and I appreciated the new showers as well as the addition of a dishwasher etc. There were no facecloths, kitchen cloths or kitchen roll but I assume this was an oversight and didn't matter too much as our stay was shorter than we would have liked.

Comfortable stay

The cottage has been updated since our last stay here and is much improved. The two bedrooms have en suites with showers. One of the settees can be converted to sleep two. Kitchen well kitted out including Nespresso machine. Induction hob. Plain white china. Small bottle of milk and some biscuits was appreciated. Cottage was lovely and warm and plenty of hot water. Outdoor area could be smartened up a bit.

Our two night stay!

Verified Up Front Reviews
Lovely two night stay in a great location which was very quiet ( apart from the Winchcombe night owl!) and very dark( take your torch). Th house was very clean and parking was right next to the house. A few niggles, although we turned the heating off earlier in the evening, it was very hot upstairs so we had to have the windows open even though it was very cold outside. We even turned the radiators off during our epsecond evening but it was still very hot upstairs. The first night my friend who was in the twin bedroom was kept awake by what sounded like mice in the loft or on the roof and as the roof came right down to the window with the drain pipe level with the window she had to close the window in case the mice or whatever it was came through the window. This was reported to the company the following morning. The shower in the main bedroom didn't work very well, and the water was very hot but intermittent even though the other shower was not being used at the same time. It even stopped at one stage for about 15 seconds. The following night , no sound of mice but very hot again even though the radiators were still turned off upstairs . The second morning the shower in the twin bedroom was intermittent, although the shower in the main bedroom worked ok?!! This was reported to the company. The duvet in the main bedroom was very thin and the bedding was quite worn looking with small bobbles in the fabric. The pillows were quite thin too. The kitchen was well equipped and over all a nice stay. I can recommend a walk across the fields to Sudeley Castle. A beautiful castle which has been maintained very well indeed with a great gift shop too. Well worth a visit!

Christmas at Emma Dent cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
On arrival at Emma Dent on 22nd December we found a beautiful cottage, in lovely surroundings. Cottage was warm and clean, with tea, coffee and milk supplied for our first "cuppa". An added bonus was the Christmas tree, which immediately put us in the Christmas spirit. Kitchen was well stocked with equipment, although a potato peeler and another roasting tin would have been helpful, as we were cooking Christmas dinner at the house. Village was lovely to walk around and Budgens supermarket well stocked with lovely goodies as well as basic supplies. Surrounding countryside provided some lovely walks and local villages also worth a visit. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Emma Dent and would recommend for a visit at any time of the year.

Lovely cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
We stayed there in December for my partner birthday with our two young children. The rooms were nice and clean and the showers were brand new. The fact that it is detached is very helpful as we have young children who can be noisy. It was the perfect location and walking distance from the town and the castle. If it was not for the rain, we would have be out and about a lot more. Though it was lovely to stay and relax by the sofa in the cottage. It was so scenic, it felt like I was in the Victorian era.

A lovely house for the weekend

Pretty location, well appointed kitchen, spotlessly clean, comfy beds. Shower pressure a bit weak, but otherwise a perfect holiday house. We really enjoyed visiting Sudebury castle - especially the tour with Clive!

Hot water and central heating problems

Verified Up Front Reviews
Hot water and central heating problems not properly fixed until Sunday night, although two previous attempts were made. That left us with just one full day before we left on Tuesday morning. We particularly wish to emphasise however that Gary was a 'star' and he did go to a lot of trouble to help. We choose not to enter anything in the comment book because we felt it would be unkind to mention our negative experience. We only give a review now because you have asked us to. We are in the hospitality booking industry ourselves. We deal almost exclusively in Florida accommodation. However, we may be able to assist Sudeley Castle with accommodation bookings if you wish? Just contact myself, Francis Proctor and we can discuss. You have a wonderful product, which we feel sure is usually excellent and we wish you well.

A charming home away from home

Located in the pretty little town of Winchcombe, a few minutes from spectacular Sudeley Castle where you will get a free access if you stay at Emma Dent. The house is spacious, modern and well-equipped inside, surrounded with similar "Cotswold-type" houses (rent-out apartments) in a charming courtyard.

Perfect location delightful town.

Verified Up Front Reviews
We came the back way along lanes so we mIssed the sign for the cottages. Once found easy to access the key and settle in. We walked (and hiked) everywhere, did not need the car except for a trip into Cheltenham. All our needs could be satisfied within walking distance. Only negative was the mattress cover had a plastic underlay and made sleeping in warm weather so uncomfortable, and made me wonder who your guests were! Thank you for the attention to detail. A perfect location

Verified Up Front Reviews
What a wonderful cottage in a grouping of cottages that makes you feel you're in a tiny village within the Village. The location puts you smack dab in the middle of the roads that take you in and out of Winchcombe in all directions. A five minute walk to the center of town, plus the walking path to Sudeley Castle is right there. Flash your key at the Visitor Center and you have complete access to the castle and its grounds for free. I was surprised to find that everything is included in your stay at the cottage. So, dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, espresso machine, kitchen utensils, plates, glasses, and gizmos are all there. Plus, an ironing board, iron, and hairdryer. We went in July and England was hot and dry. The HVAC system was turned off or not working, but the cottage remained cool and comfortable without it. At night, the upstairs bedrooms warm up a little, so just open the windows. We stayed a full week in the Emma Dent Cottage, when most guests seem to stay a night or two. My one little issue was a certain lack of information as it applies to services. The only reason I graded Customer Service as OK. We did not know in advance about how housekeeping worked or how often. This is not mentioned in the Welcome Package. As it turns out, the cottage was cleaned only once, so prior to our stay. One other thing, towards the end of our stay we needed more toilet paper, so I asked one of the housekeepers for some. The response, was that they only provide what is allocated, so you need to purchase your own beyond that. Lastly, make sure you have your code to the key box to retrieve your key. So, don't forget the PDF documents that Bolthole sends you. I discovered the Welcome Pack just before we left home, but we ran across guests who had no idea and were locked out. Regardless, we had a fantastic time, and our cottage stay simply desolved all tension and stress, taking us to an imaginary place from centuries past. Highly recommended. KS

A charming English cottage experience

Verified Up Front Reviews
My husband and i are traveling with my mom and my 12 yr. niece. Everyone was surprised by how charming the cottage looks. A real English cottage feel, yet the inside is full of modern amenities. The only recommendation i have is to stock the kitchen with basic cooking spices, like salt and pepper and maybe cooking oil. We can't make simple meal without them. Oh, and the castle is just amazing. Overall, Emma Dent is an excellent stay. Thank you

Lovely cottage and location spoilt by infestation of flies

Verified Up Front Reviews
We spent Xmas at the cottage with our two daughter and arrived on 23 December. The cottage is in an idealic location in a very pretty courtyard. We brought all our food with us for us to eat in the cottage on 24 and 25 December including the turkey and all the trimmings (we ate in the White Hart on the first night). Unfortunately on arrival we found that the cottage was infested with flies on the ground floor in the kitchen dining area and lounge - mostly dead or dying and quite large flies - about 60 -70 of them. We immediately called the number on the information sheet and maintenance then arrived. All they were able to do was hoover up the flies and put some fly killer in the kitchen. However after they left more flies kept appearing and this carried on for all of our stay. We could not find the source of how they got into the cottage but they seemed to be entering through the kitchen. When we called maintenance again on the 23rd they said they would come back on the 24th but didn't do so. In the end we found that we got less flies if we kept the heating low and we kept it off completed in the kitchen and kept the lights off for most of the time. This made cooking our meals very difficult as we were constantly cleaning surface tops and had to prepare the food in the dining area away from the kitchen. When my wife was cooking the food we all had to hover around the cooker to keep the flies away. So this did spoil our break. I should add that the cottage did itself appear clean but clearly there was something that was attracting the flies. We enquired of other cottages and they did not have this problem. We had been told that the cottage had been cleaned just before we arrived but this could not have been the case since there was a large build up of flies when we got there. If it hadn't been for the flies it would have been lovely. The cottage is very comfortable with all amenities and equipment. There was a Xmas tree in the lounge lit up when we arrived which was nice but this didn't make up for the problems we encountered

Warm and Sweet December Cottage

Verified Up Front Reviews
Emma Dent Cottage was cozy and in a beautiful setting as promised for our December trip to the Cotswolds. The kitchen had everything you need to make your own meals, and there is a co-op grocery store within walking distance. The mattresses were a bit uncomfortable and the sheets were dusty, consider changing the sheets again if nobody has rented the cottage in a while. The provided hair dryers in the bedrooms was a nice bonus. The towels were fluffy and big, but no wash clothes were provided. We could not get the television to work, and there was no number to call for assistance. But the wifi was great and we were able to easily use it for work and to plan out our excersions.

Visit arranged to attend the wedding of my granddaughter in the castle chapel

Verified Up Front Reviews
Everything was wonderful. Several members of our Family stayed close by in the other cottages. Lovely to be so close but independent, and to get together for a chat in the quiet moments. We were all very impressed with the general organisation and quality of the cottages and castle wedding organisation. Thank you for everything.

We loved staying in Emma Dent cottage and were very confortable

Verified Up Front Reviews
The cottages were walking distance from the beautiful village of Winchcombe. Good shopping, and places to eat. We came to attend the wedding of our granddaughter in the castle chapel, followed by the reception in the castle. Everything was made perfect by all the staff who couldn't have done more for us all. Members of our families came from Wales, England, Spain and Australia, we were all occupying cottages very close to each other. Wonderful !!!

Angela

good location but poor interior

Verified Up Front Reviews
The location is great and the cottages look very picturesque from the outside. The inside is really tired though and needs complete redecoration, an updated kitchen and a new bathroom as the current one resembles what you might expect from a travel lodge. Really disappointing. Clean however and as mentioned on a good spot. Although it is a walk to get to the castle facilities.

Melissa

Beautiful, quaint cottage in attractive village

Verified Up Front Reviews
Very close to Sudeley Castle - we could not take advantage of the free entry due to staying in December, so cannot comment on that, but it is just down the road. The cottage accommodated the party comfortably - there was enough room for 5 people to stay without getting in each other's way. Self - catering facilities were good. TV and WiFi both functioned well. Is very pretty. Christmas decorations were a nice touch.

Guest

Cosy comfort in the Cotswolds

Verified Up Front Reviews
The cottage is snug and comfortable in a great location. Although the facilities were clean, we did notice an unpleasant odour in the kitchen - probably not drains, possibly a dead mouse?! We felt a more personal touch would provide a better welcome as we had no contact with anyone. The tea tray set out was a nice touch, but the addition of fresh milk and a few biscuits would enhance it! This is the 3rd time we have stayed here and obviously enjoy it, but do feel it is in need of a little tlc eg tiles need fixing to the wall below the boiler, curtains are missing hooks
