The Granary is a delightful barn conversion set in the heart of a 25-acre Gloucestershire farm on the edge of the beautiful Cotswolds, yet only 4.5 miles from central Cheltenham and within 20 miles of many of the Cotswolds’ favourite attractions. The cottage sleeps four guests across a king-size double and a twin bedroom and has a family shower room and downstairs cloakroom. The welcoming, beautifully appointed living-dining room features a woodburning stove, original exposed beams and a spacious dining area to comfortably seat four guests. Outside is a private garden with a patio and BBQ. The Granary accepts two well-behaved dogs and has parking for two cars.
Originally, The Granary was a yellow-brick barn used to house grain. Today, it is beautifully renovated and restored holiday let at the centre of the owners’ farm on the outskirts of Cheltenham, close to the village of Shurdington. To either side of the property is a wicker fence surrounding the private patio and courtyard.
The Granary is accessed via Sandy Pluck Lane, a half-mile long, country track, passing open land and neighbouring houses and farms. You will find yourself surrounded by farmland and open country with easy access to walks and beautiful scenery. Guests drive into an immaculately kept courtyard, with the owners’ property to one side, The Granary ahead and its parking area to the right. Behind a tall wicker fence is a private garden with a patio, seating and BBQ.
Downstairs, The Granary has a fully equipped kitchen with a separate utility/cloakroom and a large dining-living room, featuring the original beams and fabulous wood burning stove, with a door leading out to the patio and garden. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one furnished with a king-size bed and the other with two 3ft single beds. The two bedrooms share a shower room with a large walk-in shower, toilet and wash basin.
The Granary is ideally located to explore the Central, South and North Cotswolds by car, with easy access to all the major routes and places of interest, including Cheltenham Racecourse (6 miles), Sudeley Castle/Winchcombe (12 miles), Cirencester (14 miles), Bourton-on-the-Water (19 miles), Bibury (20 miles), Stow-on-the-Wold (22 miles) and Burford (25 miles). If you prefer to arrive by train and explore the area on foot or by bike, Cheltenham Spa or Gloucester train stations are just 5 miles from the property. In addition, up to two large stables can be hired, giving guests the opportunity to bring their own horses and explore the beautiful Cotswolds on horseback.
Step through the front door into the hallway, off which are the kitchen and utility room and the open-plan dining-living room.
The fully equipped kitchen is a bright and light room with a sparkling work surface and limestone floor tiles. The kitchen is kitted out with an induction hob, electric oven, fridge, dishwasher, double sink and Freeview TV, as well as all the equipment and bakeware needed to prepare meals for everyone.
This handy room is a cloakroom, laundry room and kitchen support all in one, with a toilet, hand basin, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave, freezer and iron and ironing board, plus hooks to hang up coats.
Dining Area-Living Room:
This delightfully cosy yet light and spacious double aspect room features exposed timbers and a fabulous fireplace with a large woodburning stove. At the entrance to the room is a big, square, re-cycled pine table that comfortably seats four guests. At the far end is the cosy sitting area furnished with two beautiful, velvet sofas, an extra-large Smart TV, an antique coffee table and occasional table and a bookcase with a selection of reading books to enjoy during your stay. A stable door leads out from the dining area to the patio and garden where there is a bistro-style table and chairs and BBQ (charcoal).
Carpeted stairs with a bannister lead up from the entrance to the dining area to the two bedrooms and family shower room:
This lovely, spacious and bright, double bedroom overlooks the open countryside and farmland to the rear of the property. The bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed, bedside chests of drawers and reading lamps, a wall-mounted TV (Freeview), a full-length mirror and a triple, fitted wardrobe with hanging space and shelves. A pretty, antique table and two chairs provides a lovely place to sit and read or work.
The pretty second bedroom is a good-sized twin room with three windows (one is part of an original granary door) looking out over the courtyard and distant countryside. The bedroom is furnished with two full-size single beds set at opposite ends of the room and at a right angle to provide some privacy for each guest if it’s needed. Each bed has a bedside table or shelf and a reading lamp. The bedroom has a full-length mirror, fitted wardrobe and a wall-mounted TV (Freeview). (The stable door is kept locked but can be opened in an emergency to access The Granary’s outside steps down to the courtyard.)
Family Shower Room:
Conveniently located between the two bedrooms, the family shower room features a double walk-in shower, a hand basin with a mirror above, a toilet and a tall vanity unit with a full-length mirror.
The Granary has a private patio with a table and chairs and a BBQ (please bring your own charcoal). The garden wraps around the sides and rear of the property, with a door opening to it from the dining area, providing a lovely spot to enjoy an al fresco drink or meal. The Granary is surrounded by open countryside and farmland on the edge of the Cotswolds AONB, with easy access to walks on the owners’ land (directions will be provided by the owners) and to public footpaths.
To the side of The Granary is easy-to-access parking for two cars, while across the yard is a barn with a warm water outside hose that guests are encouraged to use to wash off muddy boots and dogs.

The cottage is very comfortable with a wonderful view. We loved the wood burner and would love to come again. Thank you!
When arriving at The Granary we were overwhelmed with excitement as it looked like something from the film, The Holiday. After a tough year, myself and my family needed a change of scenery for Christmas, this was just perfect. A lovely welcome from the hosts as well as a fire going to warm us up whilst settling in. Our week at The Granary was wonderful, Stephen couldn’t do enough for us and the welcome from the local neighbours (sheep and horses) put a huge smile on our faces each day. Thank you so much for making us feel welcome and providing us with such beautiful surroundings and a warm, cosy and stunning place to stay. We will most certainly be back and will be recommending to friends and family.
Had an amazing stay here, hosts were so helpful, kind and welcoming. The cottage is situated on a beautiful farm, the wood burner was our favourite feature of the cottage (plenty of logs on site) followed by shower, the power was great and the beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed our morning walk within the grounds. Could not thank the owners more for their hospitality and would definitely return and recommend. Also worth noting that Cheltenham town is about a 10 minute drive away, we went for dinner at The Mahal, incredible five staff Indian cuisine.
My family and I loved our stay in Stephen and Jessica's house. As hosts, they were amazing, super friendly and very welcoming. Everything was very smooth from the moment we checked in until the moment we checked out. The house itself is beautiful, very idyllic and perfect for a small getaway... The house had everything that you could need and more. Very good location with both Cirencester and Cheltenham a 20 minute drive away in either direction. With that being said, the property is very remote and having a car would be a necessity.
A wonderful find! The Granary made the most perfect stay. With an open fire lit to welcome us on an Autumn day, we found the barn well situated for Cheltenham and The Cotswolds, furnished and equipped to the highest standard and providing everything we could have asked for and more. Open fire, velvet sofas, plasma TV, full kitchen, exquisite bed linen, excellent rain shower and beautiful Countryside. 5 Star!
