Cottages near Charlbury

Ancient forests, world-class festivals and Cotswold charm

The gorgeously pretty Cotswold town (and it is a town) of Charlbury in Oxfordshire is a place where the local community spirit is alive and flourishing. Flying under the radar comparatively to neighbouring Chipping Norton, a celebrity honeypot, Charlbury is one of the Cotswolds’ real hidden gems. Take a look at some of our cottages near Charlbury.

This former Quaker town was particularly prosperous during the 18th and 19th centuries when Charlbury became a glove-making centre. Today, golden-hued cottages and elegant townhouses still line the narrow streets, and there is a gentle buzz to this delightful country town.

Lying in the Evenlode Valley’s embrace, this town is known for its walking. The Oxfordshire Way encircles Charlbury and there are a number of waymarked trails. This also includes one which takes in the only public right of way through the ancient Wychwood Forest within Cornbury Park. Charlbury is a thriving, cultural hub with several events and small festivals taking place throughout the year. These include the annual Charlbury Beer Festival, Riverside Music Festival, and a Street Fair. It also plays host to the world-renowned Wilderness Festival in Cornbury Park. Plus, it’s a great base from which to enjoy some of the bigger festivals locally. Amongst others, these include The Big Feastival and Nocturn Live at Blenheim Palace.

Charlbury gives easy access to a wealth of Cotswolds attractions and is only a short drive from Chipping Norton. Soho Farmhouse, Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm Shop and Restaurant and Daylesford. Likewise, Woodstock and Blenheim Palace are seven miles, whilst Burford, regarded as the ‘gateway to the Cotswolds’ is 10 miles. Charlbury also enjoys the benefits of being on the mainline railway to London, which takes just over an hour. The magnificent university city of Oxford is just one stop away on the train.

Charlbury is an excellent base for a stay in the Cotswolds. There are four wonderful pubs, two of which offer sensational dining. Likewise, a popular deli and a new South America-inspired restaurant is opening soon. Whether you are looking for a romantic escape just for two. Or a large, elegant house for a family gathering we have a super collection of accommodation in Charlbury for you to choose from.
