Full Description
This unspoilt corner of the Cotswolds is a dream come true for anybody looking for a peaceful escape. Charlton Down Cottage is hidden away just a stone’s throw from spectacular Cotswold highlights such as Westonbirt, Highgrove Gardens and Tetbury.

The cottage retains its charming traditional character while the spacious and well-equipped rooms make it a contemporary home-from-home. Start your days with breakfast in the garden and you’ll find you can’t resist the draw of your natural surroundings. The area is criss-crossed with walking routes, and you will be rewarded by the country pubs you stumble upon. Coming back to Charlton Down Cottage the handy utility is an added bonus giving you space to clean muddy paws. Lighting the woodburning stove in the open plan living/dining room you have a cosy evening ahead of you. Prepare a homecooked meal using local produce to be enjoyed at the dining table and watch a film together in the comfortable sitting area. Ideal for couples or small families, there are two king-size bedrooms and a large bathroom.

At any time of year, the garden is a feast of colour from the fiery reds and oranges of autumn to lush greens in the summer. If you’re lucky enough to stay when the laburnum is in bloom in spring you’re treated to a glorious display of bright yellows. It is a fantastic place to spend time with the dogs, enjoy the views while relaxing with a book and cook up a feast on the barbecue. There is off road parking for up to four cars on the gravelled driveway.

Bedroom One:
The king-size bed sits beneath the high ceilings in the first bedroom. The quiet position of the cottage provides a good night’s sleep as you sink into the plump bedding. A built-in wardrobe lets you hide your suitcases away and there are bedside tables.

Outside

You will spend most of your time outdoors while staying here, either on country walks or in the lovely cottage garden. The south facing front lawn is ideal for a morning coffee and the entire garden is enclosed by a stone wall. Beautiful stone cottage with sweeping views of the countryside. Very well equipped and everything high spec. Spacious, but still with a cosy feeling.

We consider our stay at Charlton Down Cottage to have been highly enjoyable. We greatly appreciated its location and the peaceful surroundings. At night, we experienced complete silence and darkness, which allowed us to rest very well. During the day, we made full use of the nearby public footpaths, which we truly enjoyed. The cottage also proved to be an excellent base, thanks to its convenient proximity to many places of interest – from Tetbury to Bath and Stonehenge. Having spent two weeks at the cottage, we had ample time to explore both the local area and attractions further afield. We were also very impressed with the furnishings and equipment of the house, which were complete, of high quality, and in excellent condition. Based on our experiences with holiday homes in other countries, Charlton Down Cottage stands out remarkably well.

The cottage was amazing, first class facilities and cleanliness. The location was stunning and we couldn’t have been luckier with the weather. We managed to have 4 bbq’s which was the icing on the cake. Sat outside every night enjoying the wildlife and quiet time together.

Very clean, well stocked with amenities, and not another person in sight - just a couple of horses at the front, with birds and the odd rabbit at the back.

Location

With Westonbirt Arboretum to one side, Highgrove Garden to the other, Beaufort Polo Club and a quintessentially Cotswold country pub within a stone’s throw, locations don’t get much better than this. Elegant Tetbury is a mere 2.5 miles away and has an abundance of stylish cafes, pubs and restaurants and independent shops. If all this isn’t enough, wonderful days out can be spent at Stroud, Cotswold Lakes and Cirencester.
