A short walk from the village pub in Alvescot, just 20 miles from Oxford, Taylor’s Cottage is a retreat for friends and family looking to explore this wonderful area. This peaceful setting is a joy to return to at the end of a day seeing the Cotswolds and Oxfordshire countryside.
Set over three floors, the open plan living area is the hub of the home. Two dining areas and a bright and spacious sitting area give you plenty of room to spend time together, or take a moment to yourself. Set the mood with some music, play board games and gather for home cooked meals together. Throughout Taylor’s Cottage you’ll find historic features which add to the atmosphere of staying in this part of the country. Duck beneath beams and relax beside original fireplaces. The bedrooms are set across the first and second floors, with the upper bedrooms benefiting from fantastic views and the character of beamed ceilings.
Outside the garden has plenty of space to spread out as you walk through the rose arches, taking in their beautiful fragrance. Two dining spaces, a more formal area and a relaxed coffee set give you space for BBQs or just to have a cup of tea as you read. Children can play safely on the lawn or set up a picnic and rest after a walk along the local routes.
Ground Floor
Sitting Room
You are welcomed into Taylor’s Cottage by the sitting room, a comfortable space with wooden beams above and an old stone inglenook fireplace. Pick a record to play and relax on the sofa enjoying your surroundings or take time out to watch TV.
Shower Room
Tucked to one side is a shower room with a rainfall shower, WC and basin, ideal for rinsing off after a walk exploring the village.
Utility
The handy utility closet hides the washing machine and tumble dryer.
Kitchen
The kitchen at Taylor’s Cottage will become the hub of the house. Colourful and equipped with everything you need it is a lovely room to cook in. There is a large range cooker, toaster, kettle and a microwave and bean to cup coffee machine which are hidden away to give you more surface space to prepare meals. At one end is a breakfast table for four where you can have a quick meal before heading out or serve the children separately here. It’s also perfect for board games and spreading out maps to plan your next adventure.
Dining Area
At the end of the kitchen is the main dining area. This table seats six next to an exposed stone fireplace and overlooks the garden for a lovely view.
First Floor
Bedroom One
The master bedroom has a fabulous view of the garden and is a light and spacious room. Spot the old fireplace in the stone wall and make sure you duck under the beam overhead. A super king-size bed sits between bedside tables and an antique chest of drawers adds interest.
Bathroom
Have a moment of calm with a relaxing bubble bath, away from the hubbub of your group. This bathroom also has a hand-held shower, WC and basin.
Second Floor
Bedroom Two
Under the A-frame beams with a wooden floor and stone wall, bedroom two is full of character. The king-size bed is at the centre of the room with a shelf behind holding reading lamps. A selection of books is here in case you have forgotten your own, and if you need to check emails, set your laptop up at the desk.
Shower Room
Between the two bedrooms is a shower room with a shower, WC and basin. Mind your head on the beam as you take a look over the garden.
Bedroom Three
With a king-size bed tucked into the corner this room would be perfect for younger guests. A range of books and space to play makes it a lovely hideaway.
Outside
To the front of Taylor’s Cottage there is space for four cars to park on the gravelled driveway. Beyond this is a lawned garden, wander down the path through the rose arches to find the table and chairs at the bottom. Take your morning coffee and a magazine out here to cherish a relaxing moment. Just outside the house is a dining area with a table and chairs for six. Light the BBQ to cook here, or set the table and bring your homecooked meals out.

The closest supermarkets are in Carterton (2 miles) including ASDA, Morrisons, Aldi and a Coop. Nearby, visit Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat farm shop (15 miles), Upton Smokery (7 miles) or Daylesford Organic (20 miles) for locally sourced produce and a visit to their cafes. Burford Garden Centre is a popular destination, much more than just a garden centre there is a gallery and a huge range of homewares, gifts and more. Further afield, visit the city of Oxford (18 miles) for a wonderful day out seeing the sights and sounds and browsing the unique shops.

The Plough Inn, Alvescot – a menu of locally sourced ingredients served in a welcoming, traditional dining room with a fabulous beer garden (3 min walk)
The Double Red Duke, Clanfield – fantastic choice for a special occasion known for its steaks (2 miles)
Lynwood and Co, Bampton – pick up some freshly bakes bread and delicious treats along with a great cup of coffee (3 miles)
The Mason’s Arms, Clanfield – traditional pub with a great atmosphere, oyster bar and good beer (4.5 miles)
The Farmer’s Dog, Burford – Jeremy Clarkson’s country pub serving local produce (6 miles)
Walks:
From Taylor’s Cottage you can follow a walk past St Peter’s Church through the fields onto Mill Lane. Turn into Alvescot House orchards before heading back to Station Road. Alternatively, leaving Taylor’s House and continuing down the lane and taking either fork in the road, you will reach a bridleway. Create a triangular route by following the bridleway back to join the alternate fork.

Location
The peaceful village of Alvescot lies just outside the Cotswolds, not too far from Oxford and Blenheim Palace. The local pub, The Plough, welcomes you with crackling wood fires and is perfect for either a drink or a meal with a menu of traditional meals. Nearby you can visit the popular attractions of Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, the Cotswold Lakes, Kelmscott Manor and everything that Oxford has to offer. Spend a day spotting familiar locations in Bampton which was used during filming of Downton Abbey and visit Jeremy Clarkson's Farmer's Dog and Diddly Squat for a taste of the Cotswolds.
