Sundown Lodge is a unique bolthole retreat with stylish décor, special finishing touches, and possibly the best sunset views that the Cotswolds has to offer. Nestled on Dover’s Hill, it is a romantic country hideaway where you and the dogs can make the most of the footpaths which criss-cross the area. Venture into the surrounding fields and discover the hidden viewpoints which look across as far as the Black Mountains in Wales. At the end of the day, you return to a boutique home-from-home where you can relax, unwind, and plan your adventure for tomorrow.
Full Description
Sundown Lodge is full of charming details, from the moment you step through the baby pink front door you are drawn to the eye-catching artwork and stained-glass doors. The lodge is set across the ground floor and has been beautifully renovated to provide a romantic retreat for couples or a rural stay for a small family with flexible accommodation.

The kitchen is bright and colourful, providing plenty of space to prepare meals and a dining table for quick breakfasts before you rush out the door to explore the area. There is a main dining area in the open-plan living room where you can serve lavish evening meals before relaxing on the luxurious velvet sofa. If you have more than two guests staying or you require two beds, the sofa can be converted to a double bed. The Smart Frame TV is hidden in plain sight above the fire and if you need to do some work there is a vintage writing desk in the corner. The quirky bedroom has a king-size bed and is at the back of the lodge to ensure you have a peaceful night. Finishing the lodge is the bathroom, equally as colourful as the kitchen where you can soak in the peace and quiet.

Outside you have a fully enclosed terrace with a bistro set where you can while away the evening hours with a glass of wine. Take the dogs out on a walk to enjoy the spectacular views and watch the changing colours of the Cotswold sunsets. Set on Dover’s Hill you are within a stone’s throw of the Cotswold Way which takes you into Chipping Campden. Head further afield to Moreton-in-Marsh, Broadway and even Stratford-upon-Avon and Cheltenham within half an hour by car.

Ground Floor

Kitchen:
Inspired by trips to the beach, the kitchen has deckchair-striped tiles and Cornish bakeware crockery. It is a cheerful room which you will enjoy cooking in. There is an oven/hob with an integral microwave, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a washer/dryer. The rustic kitchen table seats four and from here you have access to the terrace.

Bathroom:
Matching the kitchen tiles, the bathroom provides an uplifting morning shower or a relaxing evening soak in the tub. There is a WC and sink and a large mirror and heated towel rail.

Bedroom One:
Full of personality, the comfortable bedroom has a king-size bed. Dramatic wallpaper and bright soft furnishings sit alongside vintage furniture including a chest of drawers and bedside tables. There is also some storage space in the built-in cupboards.

Open-plan living/dining:
This welcoming room seamlessly combines the dining area and sitting area. Before the Smart Frame TV sits a sofa which can be converted to a double bed. There is also an armchair and a writing desk. A selection of games and books are available if there’s nothing you fancy watching on TV. The Gordon Russell designed dining table seats four and is perfect for evening meals together or for spreading out the Scrabble set.

Outside

A fully enclosed patio terrace has a table and chairs for drinks and light bites in the sun and the small grassed garden is perfect for four-legged friends. Views stretch out in the distance to the hills beyond where you can watch the setting sun. From your doorstep you can easily follow paths into the surrounding fields or head out onto Dover’s Hill and walk a section of the Cotswold Way. There is off-road parking for 2 cars on the private driveway.

Turn left out of the front door, left again through your parking area, and right along the farm track that leads away from the road to a metal gate and a hurdle. Go through these, taking care to close them carefully, to keep the sheep in, and along the hedge on your left to the metal gate on the other side of the field. If you wish to join the Cotswold Way, turn left onto the footpath to walk uphill, crossing the lane through two wooden gates, on to Dover’s Hill. If you turn right onto the footpath, down the hill you can walk to Broadway, Saintbury, Weston sub Edge or beyond.

Places to Visit:

  • Dover’s Hill – National Trust owned with wonderful views and walks (across the lane)
  • Chipping Campden – picture postcard Cotswold town which hosts cultural events throughout the year including a music and literary festival (1.5 miles)

Reviews

Nick is a very gracious host and the property is new and very tastefully furnished with high quality items. It is by far the best place we have stayed. It is in a very quiet and private rural location but only a short drive from Chipping Campden and Broadway which has a COOP supermarket. This was a great base for exploring and walking in the area which we enjoyed.

We had a wonderfull stay at Sundown Lodge. The house had a great ambiance and it was very complete (more than complete). The location is amazing; from the house you can make the best hikes. The views are stunning. We appreciated the enclosed patio, from where we could watch the sunset together with our dog. Nick was the best host: he is very kind and charming and made sure we were ok. There isn’t anything we can think of that could be better. We would love to come back some time. Nick’s house is really a hidden gem.

We had the most wonderful time at Sundown Lodge. Such a beautiful property, bed so comfy and bedding pristine and smelt lovely too. Lovely touches and decor is really beautiful and the owners obviously have taken great care and attention to getting the right furnishings for the property. Fab location, close to all the usual Cotswold villages , Stratford too and lovely views. Very peaceful and restful. The photos don’t do it justice really and it has such a lovely feel when you get there. One of the best !! Highly recommended. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

This really is a gem. It’s a stunning place, which was immaculately clean and tastefully decorated. It’s extremely comfortable and has all the mod cons you’ll need. We were here for 3 blissfully peaceful nights and enjoyed every second of it. We have stayed in many dog friendly places before, but this one was so clean you’d never have guessed pets were allowed! There are so many beautiful places to visit just a stones throw away, including Broadway, Chipping Campden and the picturesque villages of Snowshill and Stanton. We have already recommend this place to friends and family, and will hopefully be back to stay soon.

We had a wonderful stay at Sundown Lodge. It is very clean and well equipped with modern appliances, and in a perfect, peaceful location to explore the Cotswolds. We met the owner, Nick, who couldn't do enough to make our stay an enjoyable one. We certainly hope to book again in the future.

We had a lovely few days in Sundown Lodge. The cottage was beautifully furnished and very warm and cosy. The kitchen was very well equipped and we had dinner in nearly every evening. Location was perfect for exploring the north Cotswolds, and very convenient for Chipping Campden and Broadway. And the sunsets really were great!
