As the seasons turn and the sun sinks lower, the ever-popular Jump Race season approaches. Read on for our pick of where to stay for the Cheltenham races, some of the most popular meets on the calendar.

The Jump race season opens with The Showcase, which takes place over the last weekend in October, a time of mellow sunsets and vivid autumn colours. It’s a fabulous time to visit the Cotswolds, so why not combine a visit to the Cheltenham races with a countryside escape?

Lovely holiday home on a 25-acre farm just 4.5 miles from Cheltenham. There is a pub within walking distance and even stables if you want to bring your horse!

Lady Jane Grey – Sleeps 5

Charming cottage on the Sudeley Castle estate with plenty of pubs and eating spots within walking distance. It’s a 20-minute drive to the racecourse.

Mercia House – Sleeps 8

Fabulous mid-16th century house in the centre of medieval Winchcombe. You can be at the racecourse in 20 minutes.

The New Year’s Day Meet is a local’s favourite. Perennially popular, this is the day to wrap up warm and head to the Cheltenham Races to blow away the cobwebs and excesses of the festive season.

At the end of January, the Festival Trials Day is the pre-cursor to the ‘Festival’ and for those with a keen eye, it’s a great opportunity to see who might be heading for greatness come March. January is also a lovely time to sneak in a winter break before the February half-term holiday.
