What is a Bolthole property?

Posted: Wed, 8th Sep 2021
Teagles Cottage

The Cambridge English dictionary defines a bolthole as ‘a place you can go to when you want to get away from your usual life and escape’.  It is this and so much more that goes into making a property a Bolthole Retreats property.

Our boltholes and hideaways offer an authentic Cotswold experience with plenty of personal touches. They convey a real sense of place that comes with the territory. It might be a wonderful view, a stylish interior, or a picture-perfect village location. A traditional pub within a stones throw of the front door, the warm buttery gold Cotswold stone walls, or a blazing log fire on a chilly evening.

What brings our boltholes together is that they are all in the Cotswolds and surrounding areas and each one is different. It doesn’t matter whether you are looking for a family-friendly bolthole, where travel cots and highchairs come as standard, a romantic bolthole just for two, a luxury bolthole, or a dog-friendly cottage. We will have something that is just right for you.

A Bolthole Retreats property means the property you book is exclusive to us, and you won’t find it with anyone else. The cottages we have on the Sudeley Castle Estate are a great example of this. We do not sell anything we haven’t seen, and we visit and inspect each and every property with professional photographers and expert travel writers. Our bolthole cottages also have 3D tours so you can put yourself in the space before you book. It’s not just about bricks and mortar or a list of facilities, it’s about providing a genuine Cotswold experience.

We’re a personal company with real people at the end of the phone and our guests have access to the owner or housekeeper throughout their stay. We all live locally, the Cotswolds are our home, so we really are specialists.

We like to think we’ve got it right when providing the perfect bolthole and judging by what they say, our homeowners and guests seem to agree.

“If you are looking for somewhere to get away from it all, then Bolthole is what you need.”

Charlie, staying at The Dovecote

“I have stayed in many bolthole cottages and this one is definitely one of the best.”

Yash, staying at Cotswold Cottage

“Other agents could learn a lot from Bolthole Retreats who are setting the standards others should follow. and I have no hesitation in recommending them to home owners and holiday makers alike.”
