Top Cotswold spa experiences
Now, perhaps more than ever before, the focus on our health and wellbeing is taking front and centre stage. After months of working from home, and endless hours of computer screens and Zoom calls it is time to stop and recharge.
We may be a little biased here, but there is no better place to do this than in the breath-taking surrounds of the Cotswolds. Here, you’ll find some of the finest spas in the country, offering state-of-the-art facilities, cutting edge treatments and holistic therapies, both physical and spiritual to reset the balance and leave you feeling totally fabulous.
We’ve pulled together a collection of our favourite Cotswold Spas and paired them with a selection of our hand-picked cottages, making it easy for you to plan the perfect wellness break with Bolthole Retreats.
Soul of the Cotswolds
Our round-up of luxurious Cotswold spas inspired by their amazing locations.
First up is the stunning Calcot Spa. This idyllically located Cotswold spa is surrounded by beautiful woodlands and is guaranteed to calm the spirit and relax the soul. Choose from a menu of indulgent spa treatments or linger longer with a spa day or perhaps a romantic evening session. Whatever you choose we recommend you allow time for a little wallow in the beautiful outdoor hot tub, complete with open fire.
Why not combine a luxury spa break with the arts, entertainment and excellent dining in the Regency town of Cheltenham Spa, where there are several world-class spas to choose from. The C-Side Spa at Cowley Manor is multi-award winning and sits within 55 acres of parkland, woods and meadows. Alongside the 19m slate-lined indoor pool and 15m heated outdoor pool this spa offers a comprehensive menu of treatments using their own custom range of body and skincare products, Green & Spring.
Honeysuckle House in Coberley, just a four minute drive from Cowley Manor, is a welcoming home where you can continue your relaxation after a spa treatment. Add a touch of elegance to your spa retreat and stay at The Manor, a gorgeous house with woodburning stoves, a fabulous dining room and its own private pub. Larger groups can look to Grindstone Mill, a stunning 6-bedroom Cotswold home in Wotton-Under-Edge or Kingscote Park House, a resplendent Grade II listed manor house sleeping up to 18.
At the Elan Spa, Greenway Hotel you’ll find a Cotswold Spa designed with sheer bliss in mind and inspired by its wonderful Cotswold location. Exposed brickwork, historic beams and heavenly ESPA products create a memorable experience.
Stay on the outskirts of beautiful Cheltenham at the Granary at Hunt Court, a delightful barn conversion on a 25-acre farm just 4.5 miles from the centre of town and close to many attractions. This lovely two-bedroom property sleeps four comfortably.
Nature and Nurture
This spa collection offers serenity and sublime relaxation in harmony with nature where indoor/outdoor therapies and magical gardens combine with a natural approach to treatments.
Barnsley House Spa is a blissful sanctuary tucked away in a picture-perfect Cotswold village amidst beautiful secret gardens. Designed to offer the ultimate in relaxation with a range of treatments, steam room, hydrotherapy pool and spa garden terrace, you may find you never want to leave.
Partner your Barnsley Cotswold Spa break with the perfect Cotswold cottage in nearby Arlington (home to photographers favourite Arlington Row). The Bothy at Arlington is a romantic retreat just for two.
The Meadow Spa at Thyme is a sheer haven of restorative calm and tranquillity. This botanical spa is a place of mindfulness and contemplation with a diverse menu of treatments and therapies. The Botanical Bothy is a new, soon-to-open addition, with treatments using Sense of Nature products and fresh herbs as you unwind to the natural sound of cascading water. Our pick of places to stay includes Lovell Cottage, a beautiful Cotswold Stone Cottage in the delightfully picturesque village of Old Minster Lovell, just 30-minutes away. Alternatively, we love Holly Cottage which sleeps eight.
In the North Cotswolds you’ll find the Cowshed Spa at the much-lauded Soho Farmhouse. An offshoot on the global icon Soho House brand, Soho Farmhouse brought a new level of exclusivity to the Cotswolds. The Cowshed Spa is luxurious and indulgent and offers the ultimate in destination pampering. You do need to be a Soho House member to indulge in the spa, but for sophisticated pampering in the countryside this is the place to beat.
Whilst still ultra-luxurious but perhaps a little less famous the elegant Bamford Wellness Spa, holistic wellness arm to the Daylesford group offers a nourishing space of self-reflection, understanding and rejuvenation. In addition to treatments and consultations there is a programme of yoga, Pilates, meditation classes and workshops hosted by visiting experts. Daylesford Organic Farm is a destination in its own right and alongside the spa there are exceptional places to dine, an organic farm ship filled with fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs plucked daily from the market garden as well as a decadent bakery and a retail space focusing on treasures for the home and the garden.
Last but by no means least a long-time favourite of ours is the Dormy House Spa. Winning awards since day one this blissful, ultra-luxurious spa boasts a spectacular setting in the North Cotswolds. Treat yourself to some serious pampering with a spa day taking in an impressive menu of treatments before indulging in the Scandi-style thermal suite, terrace hot tub and heavenly pool.
We’ve plenty of outstanding nearby places to choose from when it comes to planning your stay including Box Cottage in Broadway or Singer House in Chipping Campden along with a range of choices in the pretty village of Ebrington, known locally at ‘Yuberton’.
