“The best pub in England” and places to stay nearby

It may have only been back open for a few weeks, but The Horse and Groom pub has garnered a glowing review by The Times’ resident food critic, Giles Coren.
Situated in the quintessential village of Bourton-on-the-Hill, named by Savills as one of the UK’s “most desirable” villages to live in last year, this 18th century establishment has everything you’d ever want from a country pub – a cosy ambience, lovely staff and scrumptious food.
Visiting with his family, Coren wrote in his Times column: “Our destination was the Horse and Groom at Bourton-on-the-Hill… a cosy spot with stunning views and lovely people but pretty average food, I always thought, which has been taken over by Nathan Eades and Liam Goff of the Halfway at Kineton and is thus, now, with their immense cooking bolted on to the rambling old space and fantastic gardens, almost certainly the best pub in England.”
On his visit, the writer tucked into starters including Atlantic prawn cocktail, before enjoying the main courses – a double cheeseburger, gnocchi, and a ham hock that he compared to “Jesus rising again on the third day”.

Located in arguably the most beautiful part of the Cotswolds, the pub is just moments from Sezincote House and Batsford Arboretum.
