Heaven sent for country living, Winstone Glebe is the most glorious of country houses. The mellow, wisteria-clad stone walls sit perfectly within a landscape of patchwork fields that stretch as far as the eye can see. This is a place of old-world charm enveloped in truly wonderful gardens designed by Dame Sylvia Crowe, one of the most influential landscape artists of the 20th century. Inside high-ceilinged rooms invite you in to relax, give you space to breathe and provide an enchanting haven for family gatherings. An elegant drawing room suggests pre-dinner drinks, whilst the 21st-century games room provides endless opportunities for entertainment. On the first floor, six bedrooms ensure the most restful nights of sleep. Sunny days can be spent soaking up the view from the terrace, whilst children venture forth to discover new adventures in their own garden, and don’t forget the strawberries and cream to accompany epic matches on the tennis court.
Full Description
Lying in a pocket of peaceful villages not far from Cirencester, Winstone Glebe offers the perfect rural escape, yet is easily accessible. Spend time exploring the wealth of Cotswold attractions nearby before returning to your own little piece of the English countryside.

With time-worn flagstones polished smooth by owners of the past, gracefully high ceilings, generously proportioned rooms, and oodles of character, Winstone Glebe is a much-cherished family home that you are welcome to share. The ground floor flows effortlessly through a country-style kitchen, complete with AGA, a pretty drawing room, an elegant dining room, a games room with a pool table and a delightfully cosy snug. Upstairs, six charming bedrooms offer all the space you could possibly need and wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. Traditional colours, beautiful fabrics, and unique pieces of art, all add to the character and appeal of this delightful country home.

Perhaps the most memorable of all are the gardens. Wrapping around every corner of Winstone Glebe, the Sylvia Crowe-designed gardens date from the late 1940s and feature formal planting, terraces, and topiary. Children have their own lovely space with a football goal, swing set and a trampoline. The stone terrace overlooking the lawn and fields beyond is where you’ll spend lazy afternoons with a jug of Pimm’s or an icy cold G&T as the sun sets over the yard arm.

Ground Floor

Kitchen:
The country-style kitchen has everything you need for a self-catering stay, or if you prefer you can organise a private chef. Alongside the traditional AGA, which keeps things beautifully toasty during the winter there is also a double oven and a gas hob plus a dishwasher, fridge-freezer, and microwave. The corner table with its bench seating is a good place for feeding little ones, enjoying a quiet coffee reading the papers, or for arts and crafts on rainy days.

Utility/Boot Room:
Beyond the kitchen, the useful boot room is where you’ll find a second fridge along with the washing machine and tumble dryer. If you’ve bought your four-legged friend, this is also a good drying room. There is also a door to the garden.

Dining Room:
This elegant room features French blue walls, a beautifully polished wooden floor, high ceilings, and an open fireplace. The antique dining table ensures mealtimes are always transformed into special occasions and in the sideboard, you’ll find the original garden plans drawn up by Dame Sylvia Crow in 1947.

Drawing Room:
Designed with conversation in mind, the drawing room is a warm and welcoming room with an open fire, plump sofas to sink into and where you can simply relax and enjoy time with your guests. There’s no TV in this room so you can just soak up the peace and quiet, whilst the children entertain themselves in the games room next door. Large windows at each end ensure the room is filled with light.

Games Room:
This spacious entertainment room has everything you could possibly need to keep children (young and old) happy. A large corner sofa occupies one end of the room, placed before a large wall-mounted Smart TV with streaming services. The button-topped ottoman is ideally located for marathon board game sessions, and you will find many options to choose from on the well-stocked shelves. There is also a full-size pool table with cues and balls. Vintage Air France posters add pops of colour to window-lined walls and double doors open to the terrace.

Snug:
Adding to the abundance of living space is the gorgeous snug. This forms the oldest part of the house, dating to the 1600s. Dark blue walls are the perfect foil for the old stone fireplace that now houses a cosy wood-burning stove, whilst the teal velvet sofa invites you to curl up with a good book and relax for a while.

First Floor

Wisteria:
The master suite is a beautiful room of pale blues and is so named for the delicate wisteria that clambers over the exterior walls during spring. An elegant super-king size bed ensures a comfortable night’s sleep against a backdrop of botanical wallpaper. The large multi-pane window looks out over a timeless view. This generous room also boasts a dressing area and an en-suite bathroom.

En-suite:
This large en-suite bathroom features a separate bath, which is perfect for long, lazy bubble-filled soaks, shower, basin and WC and an abundance of space.

Peony:
Furnished in dreamy shades of pale pink, with delightful floral wallpaper, Peony is oh-so-pretty. The king-size bed is made up with soft linens and a place for peaceful dreams. Upholstered chairs and antique furniture, including a multi-drawer chest of drawers give the room a timeless feel.

Rose:
Restful shades of pale cream and green, and a huge window filling Rose with light are highlights of this gorgeous room. There’s a king-size bed, a charming animal print chair, that invites you to curl up for a while and beautiful fabrics.

Bathroom:
This bathroom features marine-life-inspired tiles, a bath with mixer taps, a hand-held shower, a basin, and WC.

Chestnut:
Chestnut is a lovely room featuring a double bed and is finished in calming shades of green with hints of orange including a gorgeous deep orange velvet chair. There’s plenty of storage too.

Bluebell:
Bluebell is the second of the double bedrooms and has a striking yellow bedframe, French blue walls, and beautiful fabrics in vibrant shades. This charming room offers plenty of space to relax and unpack.

Bathroom:
The second family bathroom has a bath with a shower over, along with a hand basin and WC.

Palm:
This delightful room is calming to the eye and perfect for children or adults alike as can be made up as a king-size or split into two small singles. The gorgeous animal and palm print fabric headboards are a fun talking point. The large window and deep sill are ideal for games of hide and seek, when the curtains are drawn.

Outside

Accessed by two driveways, Winstone Glebe sits within its own wonderful grounds. The spacious gardens are the brainchild of pre-eminent landscape designer Sylvia Crow. A separate children’s garden offers a safe space for them to run and play. Behind the house is a hard-court tennis court, and to the front a sunny terrace and gardens which lead the eye to the glorious view. There’s plenty of garden furniture so you can relax and enjoy the country air, and a charcoal barbecue.

Owner Recommendations
There are wonderful walks in all directions from Winstone Glebe but a favourite is to walk to Miserden and head down the drive to have a splash in the lake. It's around a 90-minute round trip and children can manage it - but take snacks and a drink, it's a big hill on the way home!

If you want to eat out then there are some excellent local pubs nearby including The Bell at Sapperton and the Green Dragon at Cockleford.

Reviews

We have just had a wonderful family holiday at Winstone Glebe which was everything one could have expected from the photos and more. It's the most beautiful place in the most beautiful location and was the perfect place for us to relax and spend time together. As a family home, it has a great feel and is very well kitted out, from the kitchen which is a joy to cook in to the fab games room and lovely bedrooms. The weather was a bit iffy for us, so we didn't get to make much use of the terrace and tennis court, but both looked great. Amelia and Ale made us very welcome and were very helpful in responding to questions. All in all, it's a super place and we would love to go back.

Amelia was a lovely host and we were so grateful to spend a week in her home. The cottage and surroundings could not be more charming. If we were to return to the Cotswolds, we would absolutely stay here again.

A beautiful peaceful house in the countryside! We had a relaxing time enjoying the home, especially in the playroom and garden which were amazing for the children! The rooms were immaculate and we felt so comfortable here. All of the facilities worked perfectly and we had lots of cupboard space for our clothes and food etc. I arrived alone with my children so having a number for a housekeeper nearby was a great piece of mind for me. Amelia and Ale were so friendly, helpful and lovely with my children, we felt so welcome here! The area is very private and it felt like a real escape. Lovely pubs are a short drive away. We loved exploring Cirencester and Cheltenham too. Thank you so much.
