Tudor Oak

Romantic Retreat
Hot Tub
Local Pub
Tudor Oak is a luxurious, contemporary, Douglas fir-clad shepherd’s hut with its own wood-fired, spring water hot tub set in an idyllic Cotswold location, with uninterrupted views down the Painswick Valley. Inside nothing has been spared to create the ultimate in luxury glamping, from the king-size bed and ensuite shower room to the spacious, shaker-style kitchen-dining area. Enjoy the incredible views, sunsets and sunrises while relaxing in bed or in the hot tub. Cuddle up around the firepit, enjoy a BBQ or soak up some sunshine on the sun loungers.
Full Description

A set of wide steps lead up to Tudor Oak’s double doors, which open into the stunning, extra-wide, open-plan kitchen-dining-sleeping area. The interior is clad in light oak shaker-style wood panelling with engineered oak flooring, creating a contemporary, Scandi-feel to this beautiful retreat.

The bedroom features a king-size bed on a raised platform, which can be accessed from both sides via concealed steps. Lie in bed and enjoy the tranquillity and the unrivalled views. A shelf with LED candles runs above the windows, providing a convenient spot to keep personal items. There is a double power point beside the bed and underneath is storage space for luggage and shoes.

The dining area has a solid wood table that slides out from under the bed, with a chair to one side and a bench seat to the other. The very well-appointed kitchenette features a dual ring induction hob, combi microwave, butler sink with running hot and cold water, a fridge with a freezer compartment and worktop space to prepare meals.

A latched door opens to a very well-appointed shower room with a full-size cubicle shower, toilet, wash basin with vanity unit and mirror and a heated towel rail.

Tudor Oak is in a secluded area of the owner’s beautiful gardens. Follow a trail across the lawn to the side of the Lodge, past raised beds full of flowers to a gravel path that winds through a wild flower meadow to this stunning retreat. The hut has a wide patio with an enticing, wood-clad and wood-fired hot tub set to one side under an old walnut tree. Also provided for guests on the patio is a firepit, a BBQ, two armchairs and two sun loungers. For most of the year, you can relax in the wood-fired hot tub enjoying the magic of the sun rises and sunsets and the stunning red skies over the Painswick Valley - it's a very therapeutic experience and will leave you with very special memories.

Supermarkets and Shopping:
Painswick has a small corner shop (Best One), which is good for newspapers, magazines and a pint of milk. We recommend making the journey to Stroud where there is a Tesco, Sainsburys and a Waitrose. Stroud also has a renowned Saturday Farmer’s Market, which is well worth a visit.

Eating Out:
  • The Butchers Arms (2.5 miles)
  • The Woolpack Inn (3.3 miles)
  • The Fostons Ash (6.5 miles)
Painswick Beacon has spectacular views over the Severn Vale, otherwise you can enjoy a walk through the woods towards Sheepscombe.

  • Rococo Garden (500 metres)
  • Gloucester Cathedral (7.5 miles)
  • Miserden (9 miles)
  • Train - Stroud Station (6 miles)
  • Taxis - AA Taxis Stroud

  • WiFi is available in the garden area but not in the shepherd's hut. There is good 4G cover.
  • The hot tub at Tudor Oak is wood-fired and takes approximately 2 hours to heat up. Extra, kiln-dried, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified wood can be purchased from the owner for £6 per box. The wood is provided in a recyclable cardboard box (rather than the plastic netting used by supermarkets/garden centres).

  • Please be aware that under no circumstances are additional guests above the maximum capacity allowed at the property, for day visits or overnight stays.

Our first time staying in a shepherds hut and it did not disappoint. Very clean and beautifully idyllic - the perfect romantic getaway! Malcolm and Fiona are very welcoming and catered to all of our needs. We hope to be back soon.

We couldn’t have picked a better place for our minimoon. The owners, Malcolm and Fiona, who live on site could not do enough for us and when we phoned they were instantly there with extra fire wood. Everything you needed was there and we really appreciated arriving to a nice warm hot tub. The breakfast hamper was a lovely touch and the view is amazing. The bed was also extremely comfy! We loved the games and enjoyed sitting around the fire pit toasting marshmallows in the evening. We will definitely be back!

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Shepherd’s Hut for two nights and would highly recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a break in the Cotswolds. The hut was so cosy, immaculately clean and had everything we needed. The beautiful views we woke up to and the wood fired hot tub were definitely a highlight. Demelza was available to contact throughout the weekend, was very helpful and made our stay really comfortable. Thank you for a lovely stay!

This rural retreat is in walking distance of The Butchers Arms in Sheepscombe, a very popular pub, serving good food. The heart of the village of Painswick, known as the Queen of the Cotswolds for its beautiful Grade II listed buildings, is only 1.5 miles away, while Painswick Rococo Gardens is just 1.5 miles across the valley. The two long distance paths (LDPs) are on the doorstep: the Wysis Way is at the end of the drive and the Cotswold Way passes through Painswick, making this an ideal spot for walkers. Keen cyclists are welcome to bring their bikes too, with covered storage available for bikes. The hut is in easy driving distance of Stroud Farmers’ Market, Miserden, Gloucester Cathedral and Cirencester – the Capital of the Cotswolds.
