Tudor Oak is a luxurious, contemporary, Douglas fir-clad shepherd’s hut with its own wood-fired, spring water hot tub set in an idyllic Cotswold location, with uninterrupted views down the Painswick Valley. Inside nothing has been spared to create the ultimate in luxury glamping, from the king-size bed and ensuite shower room to the spacious, shaker-style kitchen-dining area. Enjoy the incredible views, sunsets and sunrises while relaxing in bed or in the hot tub. Cuddle up around the firepit, enjoy a BBQ or soak up some sunshine on the sun loungers.
Full Description

A set of wide steps lead up to Tudor Oak’s double doors, which open into the stunning, extra-wide, open-plan kitchen-dining-sleeping area. The interior is clad in light oak shaker-style wood panelling with engineered oak flooring, creating a contemporary, Scandi-feel to this beautiful retreat.

The bedroom features a king-size bed on a raised platform, which can be accessed from both sides via concealed steps. Lie in bed and enjoy the tranquillity and the unrivalled views. A shelf with LED candles runs above the windows, providing a convenient spot to keep personal items. There is a double power point beside the bed and underneath is storage space for luggage and shoes.

The dining area has a solid wood table that slides out from under the bed, with a chair to one side and a bench seat to the other. The very well-appointed kitchenette features a dual ring induction hob, combi microwave, butler sink with running hot and cold water, a fridge with a freezer compartment and worktop space to prepare meals.

A latched door opens to a very well-appointed shower room with a full-size cubicle shower, toilet, wash basin with vanity unit and mirror and a heated towel rail.

Tudor Oak is in a secluded area of the owner’s beautiful gardens. Follow a trail across the lawn to the side of the Lodge, past raised beds full of flowers to a gravel path that winds through a wild flower meadow to this stunning retreat. The hut has a wide patio with an enticing, wood-clad and wood-fired hot tub set to one side under an old walnut tree. Also provided for guests on the patio is a firepit, a BBQ, two armchairs and two sun loungers. For most of the year, you can relax in the wood-fired hot tub enjoying the magic of the sun rises and sunsets and the stunning red skies over the Painswick Valley - it's a very therapeutic experience and will leave you with very special memories.

On your Doorstep
Supermarkets and Shopping:
Painswick has a small corner shop (Best One), which is good for newspapers, magazines and a pint of milk. We recommend making the journey to Stroud where there is a Tesco, Sainsburys and a Waitrose. Stroud also has a renowned Saturday Farmer’s Market, which is well worth a visit.

Eating Out:
  • The Butchers Arms (2.5 miles)
  • The Woolpack Inn (3.3 miles)
  • The Fostons Ash (6.5 miles)
Painswick Beacon has spectacular views over the Severn Vale, otherwise you can enjoy a walk through the woods towards Sheepscombe.

Places to Visit:
  • Rococo Garden (500 metres)
  • Gloucester Cathedral (7.5 miles)
  • Miserden (9 miles)
  • Train - Stroud Station (6 miles)
  • Taxis - AA Taxis Stroud

Points of Note
  • Please note that additional guests above the maximum capacity are not permitted.
  • It is our policy not to take bookings for single sex group celebrations, which includes Stag and Hen nights, or groups where the majority are under 25 years.
  • Private parking is available for two cars.
  • WiFi is available in the garden area but not in the shepherd's hut. There is good 4G cover.
  • The hot tub at Tudor Oak is wood-fired and takes approximately 2 hours to heat up. If guests provide their arrival time on booking, the owners will endeavour to have the hot tub lit and ready for use on arrival. A one-night supply of logs for the hot tub and firepit is provided. Extra, kiln-dried, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified wood can be purchased from the owner for £6 per box. The wood is provided in a recyclable cardboard box (rather than the plastic netting used by supermarkets/garden centres).
  • The owners have large friendly dogs who will come and pay you a visit. Please do not feed them. The dogs are free to roam around the gardens and it is not possible to prevent them paying you a visit. For many guests this is a highlight of their stay.
Neighbouring Properties
Tudor Oak can be booked with Under The Walnut Tree for friends wanting to travel together but have their own space. You can share the properties between your group, but please bear in mind you would not have enough seating to sit/eat together.

We had the most blissful two nights at Tudor Oak. The hut was stylish, cosy and perfectly formed. We just loved lying next to the windows and seeing the horses grazing nearby, and listening to the pheasant! Friendly dogs were hilarious, owners were extremely helpful and amenities of hot tub, fire pit and barbecue were all put to good use. We’re already planning our return! X

We had an amazing weekend, the owners were very friendly (and the dogs also are so cute) the hut is well equipped, the grounds are lovely and the hot tub is superb. We went on a lovely walk around the woods on the way to the local pub (butchers arms Sheepscombe) and spent the morning at Stroud farmers market(recommended by Malcolm the owner- a very worthwhile visit) look forward to visiting again 10/10 :)

We stayed at Tudor Oak as a short mini-moon after getting married and had the most fantastic stay. The hut was beautiful, the views were amazing and the owners were excellent hosts. We will definitely be recommending it to everyone and will be back for a longer stay soon.

This rural retreat is in walking distance of The Butchers Arms in Sheepscombe, a very popular pub, serving good food. The heart of the village of Painswick, known as the Queen of the Cotswolds for its beautiful Grade II listed buildings, is only 1.5 miles away, while Painswick Rococo Gardens is just 1.5 miles across the valley. The two long distance paths (LDPs) are on the doorstep: the Wysis Way is at the end of the drive and the Cotswold Way passes through Painswick, making this an ideal spot for walkers. Keen cyclists are welcome to bring their bikes too, with covered storage available for bikes. The hut is in easy driving distance of Stroud Farmers’ Market, Miserden, Gloucester Cathedral and Cirencester – the Capital of the Cotswolds.
