This delightful, spacious and light, Grade II-listed cottage dates back to 1820, and still retains the character of that era with its exposed beams and stone walls. The two-hundred-year-old features are perfectly complemented by a contemporary kitchen, dining room and stylish ensuite bathrooms. The cottage, which sleeps five, is in the heart of Winchcombe, the home of Sudeley Castle and Gardens, with fabulous walking on the doorstep, including the Cotswold Way and Winchcombe Way. After a long day exploring the area, relax in the cottage’s secluded, English country garden or nip next door to the 16th century Corner Cupboard inn for a drink and meal. The cottage accepts two dogs.
Full Description
Teasel Cottage sits at the heart of historic Winchcombe, a few minutes’ walk away from the gentle hubbub of the town. The cottage sits tucked between the 16th century Corner Cupboard inn and a mid-18th century residence. Three stone steps lead to the front door, which opens into the beautiful, colourful and welcoming living room. The outside view tells little of the comfort, space and garden that guests will enjoy once inside.

The ground floor of the cottage has a wonderfully spacious yet cosy feel. The delightful living room exudes the age of the property, with wooden flooring and window seats, yet feels modern and light with a clever blend of antique furniture and the use of vibrant fabrics. To the rear there is a contemporary kitchen and dining area that provides a fabulous entertaining space, which guests can easily spill out of to the charming garden. Upstairs are three super-comfortable bedrooms – one king, one super-king/twin and one single - and a contemporary family bathroom and ensuite shower room.

The three-level garden is an unexpected and hidden gem. Step out of the rear hallway and up three steps to the first lawn, with a flowering border, followed by the patio with a large dining table and six chairs and gas barbecue, flanked by a richly planted colourful border. Continue past the patio to a second lawn, hidden behind fruit trees where guests can sit and enjoy the bird song or perhaps read a book while lying on the grass. A path runs the length of the garden from the back gate, alongside the wall shared with the adjacent Corner Cupboard inn, to the first lawn. Sensor lighting comes on as the light fades to guide guests along the path from the back gate and parking to the back door, plus there is a floodlight for when sitting outside in the evening or having a barbecue. The cottage has one dedicated parking place.

Ground Floor

Living Room:
The light, spacious and colourful living room features a beautiful oak floor and wood burning stove, providing a cosy and welcoming entrance to the cottage. The room is furnished with two sofas, an armchair, an antique dresser, chest of drawers and a coffee table. To one side is a Smart TV, while to the front are two window seats with comfy cushions, making them an ideal spot to watch the world go by.

Kitchen/Dining Room:
Head up three wooden stairs towards the back of the cottage into the delightful kitchen/dining room with its beautiful, polished stone floor. The dining area has a rectangular, wooden table to comfortably seat five guests, with an electric wood burner-effect fireplace for those chilly winter evenings. The fully equipped contemporary kitchen has everything needed for a self-catering holiday, including a double oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer. There’s plenty of space to prepare food on the sparkling white worktops and room to move around while chatting to the rest of the group sat at the dining table. Three Velux skylights make this a beautifully light and bright room, while your eyes are drawn to the view out to the pretty cottage garden.

A handy antique coat, hat and umbrella stand sits to one side of the room in front of a feature Cotswold stone wall, the perfect spot to place your outdoor clothes.

Utility Area/Back Hall:
Just off the kitchen is the back hall and handy utility area, with a washer-dryer, ironing facilities, storage for the highchair and room for coats and outdoor footwear. The back door leads out to the garden, patio and rear access to the parking.

First Floor

Carpeted stairs with a banister lead up from the kitchen/dining room to the landing, off which are the bedrooms and bathrooms.

Bedroom One:
This pretty double bedroom, with its original exposed timbers, is furnished with a king-size bed, with bedside tables and reading lamps, a double wardrobe and full-length mirror. Perch on the wide windowsill and watch the world of Winchcombe go by.

Bedroom Two:
Head along a little landing and down one step to the second double bedroom, which is furnished with a super-king size bed (can be twin on request), with bedside tables and reading lamps, a chest of drawers, wall hooks for hanging clothes, a wooden chair and a large mirror.

Family Shower Room:
The stylish and contemporary shower room features a walk-in corner shower with a detachable shower head, a toilet and a hand basin with a vanity unit, mirror with sensor lights and a shaver point, and a heated towel rail.

Bedroom Three:
The cottage’s single bedroom is at the top of the staircase, and up two additional carpeted steps. It is furnished with a single bed, a bedside chest of drawers and a reading lamp, with hooks on the back of the door for hanging clothes. (This room can be used as a bedroom or a dressing room and ensuite for guests in Bedroom One.)

Ensuite Shower Room:
The contemporary ensuite shower room has a walk-in shower, with a detachable shower head, a toilet, a wash basin with shaver/make up mirror and a heated towel rail.

Outside

The cottage has a beautiful, country-cottage garden that’s accessed from the back hall or the cottage’s parking area on Back Lane. The garden is divided into three parts: a lawn, with mature bedding plants to the side, a raised patio area with a barbecue, dining table and seating for six next to a beautiful flowering border, and a second lawn behind fruit trees where you’ll find space to hang washing or enjoy some quiet time sitting on the grass reading a book.

The cottage has allocated off-street parking for one car to the rear of the garden. Free, on-street parking is available close by, and there is a public car park (with a low daily charge) on Back Lane within easy walking distance.

We enjoyed the wine and biscuits left for us. The garden was lovely for sitting in the sun. The kitchen was well equipped and Winchcombe is a lovely little town.

A lovely well equipped and comfortable cottage. The perfect place for two couples to stay with equal size double bedrooms and two modern bathrooms. The garden was a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the sunshine. The pub next door was more than happy to let us bring our drinks back into our own garden. The owner, Richard, called by to say hello and was extremely helpful advising on some really nice walks. We went on some really good walks around the local area and Hayles Fruit Farm is definitely worth a visit for lunch or tea when walking around nearby Hailes Abbey and the pick your own strawberries are pretty good too!
