Large wooden grey gates swing open to reveal a wide gravel driveway, on your right is the owner’s house, and in the foreground is Gras Lodge. It’s surrounded by fields of asparagus, known locally as ‘gras’ and offers views over to the hills of the Cotswold escarpment, which lie tantalisingly close on the horizon. Muntjac deer and foxes are often seen and woodpeckers can be spotted in the surrounding trees.
As you step through the front door, the clever use of space is evident with an L-shaped living, dining, and kitchen area, two bedrooms and a bathroom, accommodating four guests in comfort. Throughout the lodge, the colourful wall art, including a contemporary piece by a local artist, is a gentle reminder of the roots of the lodge and your hosts. The cosy living area has two comfy sofas and a Smart TV, there’s a dining table to seat four and a well-equipped galley kitchen.
To one side of the lodge, a screened patio area features an outdoor sofa set with a two-seater sofa, two chairs, stools, and a table. A large, cantilevered parasol provides shade from the big skies on sunny days and there’s a charcoal barbecue for cooking up a feast. It’s a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the outdoors. Guests are also welcome to wander around the surrounding asparagus fields, and there is plenty of parking for up to four cars.
