The Dovecot is a fabulous, open-plan, single-storey, contemporary retreat, with everything you need for a romantic break, including a hot tub. The king-size bedroom with en-suite walk-in shower, the fully equipped kitchen with bar and dining area and the spacious living area with a free-standing wood burning stove are immaculately presented. Step out on to the private patio where you’ll find an outdoor dining area and a hot tub, bubbling and ready for your arrival. Two well-behaved dogs are welcome.
Set within the owner’s 230-acre arable farm, The Dovecote is one of five outstanding properties that comprise Avon Farm Estate Holiday Cottages, all decorated to a very high standard and each with its own hot tub positioned in a private patio or garden. All Avon Farm Cottages can be booked separately or together to accommodate larger groups and families; hen parties are also welcome – please see below for more information.
The Dovecote is perfectly situated with easy access to the South West’s two most vibrant cities, Bristol and Bath, yet located away-from-it-all in beautiful countryside with stunning views across the Avon Valley.
As you step through the front door, you’ll be instantly struck by The Dovecote’s generous proportions, made even more impressive by its soaring ceiling, exposed A-frame beams and Velux window, allowing lots of light to stream in. Yet, The Dovecote is cosy and welcoming too, with its sink-in sofas, wood burning stove and inviting king-size bedroom at the far end of the open-plan living area.
Once you have settled into The Dovecote you can decide what you want to do, probably a mix of relaxing in your comfortable space and testing out the hot tub, enjoying the flora and fauna surrounding the farm and just soaking up the atmosphere. However, if you wish to explore you can walk around the estate and stroll along the Avon River to the local pub on the riverbank. Or for the more active, you can hire a bicycle from Clive and Serena (pre-booking required) head down the cycle path, which was once the old train track, to either Bath or Bristol – only 2 minutes from your accommodation. The Dovecote is decorated throughout with a relaxing blend of whites, greys, and taupe with pops of colour from eye-catching modern art. The ash-grey, wood-effect flooring is made cosy with a silver-grey, deep pile rug in the living area, while the en-suite shower room features sparkling white floor tiles.
One step up through the front door into the beautiful Living Area, featuring a 6-seater, cream-coloured corner sofa and a fabulous, free-standing woodburner. Complementing the seating is a low, contemporary coffee table, a long sideboard and table lighting, providing welcoming pools of light. It’s the perfect space to relax and unwind while watching the TV and enjoying the glow from the woodburner.
The large, fully equipped kitchen has an extensive preparation area with sparkling Corian worktops, lots of cupboard space for all the crockery, glassware and utensils, a breakfast bar with two stools, and everything you need for a self-catering holiday, including an oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge-freezer and washing machine. Alongside the kitchen is a rectangular dining table with four comfy seats.
Head through the frosted glass door next to the kitchen and into the sumptuous white and dove-grey bedroom with its king-size bed and en-suite shower room. Complementing the King size bed is a double wardrobe, a chest of drawers with a large wall mirror above and free-standing make-up mirror, a bedside chest of drawers with a reading lamp and Blaupunkt radio, and a feature floor lamp providing subtly atmospheric lighting. A corner cupboard houses a vacuum, ironing board and iron.
En-suite Shower Room:
The Dovecote’s en-suite features a large, walk-in rain shower with polished limestone wall tiles. The shower room has a washbasin, dual-flush WC, a large mirror with shaver point and a heated towel rail, plus a long shelf providing plenty of space for guests’ personal items.
Bi-fold doors in the Living Area lead to a private flagstone patio, with a table and seating for four, plus its own inviting hot tub – ready and bubbling for your arrival!
The Dovecote has parking for two vehicles directly outside the cottage’s front door and plenty of room to store bicycles too.
Enjoying the farm and the facilities:
One of the biggest benefits of staying on a farm is there are loads to see and do without even leaving the site, it’s great for families, friends, and couples alike!
Avon Farm Cottages have secured fishing rights for their stretch of the river, just a short walk from the holiday cottages. Guests are welcome to fish in the river, own equipment, and license required.
Bicycles are available to hire from Clive and Serena.
Please help yourselves to chicken eggs. The chickens are beyond the car park through the opening onto the fields.
Not far from the chickens is a family of goats. They like being fed vegetables, fruit, even bananas!
Walk past the goats, follow the path down to the river and take a riverside walk either way along the public footpaths.
The horses do not belong to the farm and are looked after by their owners who come daily to see them. Please do not feed the horses, but they are always happy for a stroke on the nose and a hello.
Next to the chickens is the polytunnel, and when there is fresh produce, you’ll find some in your welcome pack, and can refill this when there is plenty. Feeling green-fingered? The grounds of the farm are always in need of something, so feel free to help us keep the farm looking lovely. Whether that be a bit of weeding, deadheading, or just advice, we will welcome any help!
All around this field are many blackberry bushes, please help yourselves when they are ripe.
There are some tenants on the farm who either live on-site in the converted barns or who just let a stable and field. They are all very nice, and always happy to answer any questions.

Footpaths and bridleways (bike/horse-riding paths) lead directly from the estate - the owners are happy to point you in the right direction. You will also find a copy of the local map ‘Saltford on Foot’ at the cottage. The Bristol & Bath Railway Path is a stone’s throw from Avon Farm Estate and can be joined near the Bird in Hand pub, just half a mile down Avon Lane.

It is our policy not to take bookings for single sex group celebrations, which includes Stag and Hen nights, or groups where the majority are under 25 years.
Avon Farm rules: respect the 10mph limit around the farm; keep to the 20mph limit on Avon Lane; no outside noise after 10pm; no hot tub use after 8pm; and lastly, please notify the owners if any outside services have been booked (e.g. a chef or supermarket delivery). When ordering a supermarket delivery choose Avon Farm on the drop-down address menu, and clearly write THE DOVECOTE in the delivery instructions. No additional day guests, or overnight guests are allowed unless previously agreed with the owners. Please note, no music systems are allowed outside as they cause a nuisance to other guests at the farm
Please be aware that Avon Farm Estate properties are situated on a working farm where farm machinery is sometimes in operation; therefore, please be vigilant at all times. Children must always be supervised in the communal spaces and when using the hot tub

Absolutely beautiful place, great location, felt very private and we had the most fantastic stay we didn’t want to leave.
The Cottage was in a great location on the farm and close to the Avon river. You felt you was in the countryside but had quick access to Bath, Bristol, the motorways and local shops. The hosts (Clive and Serena) were kind and friendly and anyone working was exactly the same. The vibes were nice and chilled, perfect for our young family and dog. Would highly recommend.
Lovely stay, despite the rain! Easy check in, lovely little lodge all the amenities needed. Such a peaceful location, despite the location of this lodge being on full display as soon as you arrive, you didn’t feel like it was overly overlooked. The fencing could do with a little more bamboo to make the patio slightly more private but it was so quiet it wasn’t really an issue. Thank you so much for your hospital and the beautiful countryside views!
Guests have access to the 230 acres of land, which includes access to the River Avon, where you can do a spot of fishing (a personal licence is required). Take a walk through the farmland and you reach the local pub, which is situated on the bank of the river less than 1 mile away. The farm is also two minutes away from the Bristol and Bath cycle track, perfect for cyclists and walkers. The property is also close to Saltford Sailing Club and Saltford Golf Club.
Surrounded by open countryside, the village of Saltford is also known for its history and has a conservation area, with a restored brass mill (dating to 1720), a Norman manor house and a church with a Saxon tower. Just 6 miles away is the vibrant heritage city of Bath, which boasts the famous Roman baths, Thermae Bath spa, and the famous Royal Crescent, one of Bath’s most iconic landmarks. There are also several National Trust areas nearby, including Dyrham Park and Stourhead House.
