A truly unique cottage heralding the entrance to historic Sudeley Castle and its magnificent gardens, the Castle Gatehouse is a dog-friendly property that comfortably sleeps 4 guests in two en-suite bedrooms. The Gatehouse is split into two wings, accessed by separate doors. On one side you have a four-poster bed master bedroom with en-suite shower room. On the other side you enter the kitchen/diner, going upstairs to the living area and then up into the second king size bedroom with en-suite shower room. The unique layout of this property makes it ideal for two couples wanting the privacy of their own space whilst sharing kitchen/diner and living areas.
Guests staying at the Castle Gatehouse enjoy complimentary (other than separately ticketed events) day-time entrance to Sudeley Castle & Gardens during the open season.
Booking the Castle Gatehouse is akin to booking your very own miniature castle for your stay at Sudeley! The former gatekeeper’s house marks the entrance to the castle grounds and has been converted and restored to provide comfortable accommodation for up to four guests over its unique layout. Its ancient and impressive structure is complemented with symmetrical gardens lined with iron railings and a stone courtyard in the centre.
The accommodation is arranged such that Bedroom One, with its four-poster bed and en-suite shower room, is accessed via a separate door, in one wing of the Gatehouse. Across the courtyard is another door, leading into a well-equipped kitchen with a dining table and chairs for four guests, a utility area with stairs leading up to a beautifully furnished, cosy living area and additional separate WC just off the landing. A further seven steps will take you to Bedroom Two, a spacious room with a king-size double bed. A few steps down will lead you to the en-suite shower room, with a concealed washing machine and tumble dryer.
Outside, guests can admire the pastoral views that line the driveway to the castle from two individually gated gardens, a mirror image of each other, neatly connected by a shared patio in the middle with an outdoor dining table and chairs.
Please note, as per the floor plan, the bedrooms have separate entrances across a courtyard and are not joined.
Bedroom One & En-Suite Shower Room:
To your left when facing the Castle Gatehouse is a door into Bedroom One, a sumptuous four-poster bedroom with a decorative fireplace, wardrobe and shelves, bedside tables and its own private en-suite shower room with walk-in shower, WC and washbasin.
Head across the courtyard and enter through the opposite door into the:
A thoughtfully laid-out and well-equipped kitchen, featuring a dining table and chairs for 4 people, toaster, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, oven and 4 ring electric hobs, microwave and dishwasher.
The practical utility area off the kitchen under the stairs is where you’ll find a large free standing fridge/freezer, high chair and stairgate, a floor mop, cushions for the outdoor chairs and even a spare dog bowl and blanket should you need it. Note: the washing machine and tumble dryer are upstairs in the en-suite bathroom.
Separate WC and washbasin.
A beautifully furnished, cosy living room, decorated in rich tones of red, navy blue, black and gold. Relax in front of the flatscreen television and DVD player, surrounded by interesting antique features, such as the beautiful feature tapestry that adorns the wall.
A bright room in the arch of the gatehouse, featuring painted beams, a comfortable king-size bed, a full-length mirror, storage ottomans and bedside tables.
En-Suite Shower Room:
En-suite with wooden floors, large walk-in power shower WC, washbasin, heated towel rail, wardrobe with storage cupboard above. There is also a washing machine and tumble dryer in a concealed cupboard.
The gatehouse benefits from two small, symmetrical, gardens with a wooden table and chairs for four guests, with retractable parasol, in the courtyard patio area that separates the gardens. Please note: although dogs are accepted at the Castle Gatehouse, the gardens are not secure for them. Therefore, all dogs must be kept on a lead at all times when outside.

Perfect for a romantic getaway. Has a special feel to it. Fairly small space and basic accommodation. Along a busy path for walkers and visitors of the Sudley Castle, so not much privacy in the garden. Short walk into town
A fantastic and very unique building & place to relax and enjoy on a nice sunny weekend. It is also linked to the beautiful Sudeley Castle and Winchcombe. Would highly recommend to anyone.
A perfect base for country dog- walks on the doorstep while also being only a short drive from Cheltenham town centre for some Christmas shopping. The Gatehouse is quirky and delightful. Everything was spotless on arrival - the welcome pack of coffee pods, milk and preserves a nice touch. After a short walk into Winchcombe we discovered Fantastic Foods - a treasure trove of interesting tasty treats where we found everything else we needed. The property is very well equipped throughout and furnished to a good standard. A great place to visit at any time of year but we were lucky enough to be there for the Christmas light show at Sudeley Castle which was charming. A little pricier than other properties we have stayed in around Cheltenham but definitely worth the extra for the location alone.
Quirky, cosy and well equipped. Will be coming back again!
We spent a rainy week at Sudeley Castle Gatehouse, but the rain didn't dampen the spirits whilst staying in this amazing place. On arrival we had been left drink facilities, milk and biscuits and the gatehouse was very welcoming. The welcome pack was very comprehensive and had all of the information we could possibly need. The property was incredibly well equipped and we wanted for nothing. It has a fabulous kitchen with everything you could possibly need. Beds were very comfy, always hot water available and the showers were great. Can not fault the place, and would definitely recommend.
Great location and very unique stay. Easy walk to town was a plus.
We really loved the Castle gatehouse and will come again for much longer stays. We have already and will continue to recommend it to our friends.
Situated just a short walk from the beautiful Cotswold town of Winchcombe, guests will be spoiled for choice when it comes to things to do and see and places to eat while staying at the Gatehouse! See ‘Local Amenities’ or the Winchcombe guidebook for more information.
