4 Bank House was formally part of the old town bank, an historic building that dates to 1901. Today it is one of four private residences created from a full renovation that combines the charm of the Edwardian era with a sleek contemporary design. This immaculate, beautifully furnished and styled, two-bedroom town house extends over three floors, with a fabulous open-plan living space at the heart of the property, two double bedrooms and a shower room on the top floor, and a private and secluded courtyard garden to the rear. This outstanding holiday home is perfectly located to visit the Royal International Air Tattoo, Cotswold Water Park, and Thames Path National Trail as well as being in easy reach of Cirencester, Bath, Oxford and Cheltenham. 4 Bank House is a 'Visit England 4* Gold Award' property.
Full Description
Fairford’s handsome, Grade-II listed, former Lloyds Bank building sits proudly on the High Street, close to St Mary’s Church (itself renowned for its medieval stained-glass windows) and opposite the resplendent trees belonging to Fairford House. The façade of the old bank has beautiful light stone mullioned windows and two arched, oak doorways.

As soon as you step inside 4 Bank House you will feel the care and attention that has been lavished on the renovation of this gorgeous holiday home, from the restoration of the beautiful stone windows to the choice of wall colours and positioning of the stylish artwork. From the ground floor entrance and hallway, head through an original door to the first set of stairs, which lead up to the hub of the home - the stunning, open plan living-dining-kitchen area, with its three arched windows looking out to the High Street and the tall trees belonging to Fairford House. Continue up to the second floor where there are two double bedrooms and a family shower room, separated by a spacious landing and small seating area.

An ancient alleyway to the left-hand side of the Lloyds Bank building leads to the entrance gate that opens out to 4 Bank House’s garden. Here guests will find a delightful hideaway, with a patio and pergola and a bistro-style table, and four chairs. A landscaped path, lined with lavender and soft sensor lighting, leads to the entrance door, originally the bank employees’ entrance complete with the original doorbell.

Ground Floor

Entrance Hall:

The long entrance hallway provides a hint of the building’s past, with its beautifully preserved Edwardian floor tiles and Lloyds Bank name plate. A boot rack is provided by the door and coat hooks are at the end of the hallway at the foot of the stairs. The entrance hall also has a large cupboard where laundry and cleaning equipment can be found.

A carpeted staircase with a handrail leads up to the:

First Floor

At the top of the stairs are two doorways, one to the left, leading directly into the living room, and the other straight ahead into the kitchen-dining area. Both areas form one flowing, beautifully furnished and decorated, L-shaped living space with wood-effect flooring throughout.

The very well-equipped, bright and airy kitchen has every appliance needed for a self-catering stay, whether you want to prepare something simple or cook a three-course celebratory meal. The kitchen’s design includes plenty of preparation surfaces and unique low cupboards below the original sash window, allowing guests to look down over the pretty courtyard garden.

Dining Room:
Walk straight through from the kitchen to the spacious dining area where there is a reclaimed monastery dining table with six wishbone dining chairs, comfortably seating four guests. To either side of the dining table is a sideboard, with a large ornate mirror over one and modern art pieces over the other. Light shines into the area through one of the original windows, with its fabulous stone window surround.

Living Room:
The gorgeous living room features a fantastic combination of modern art, and antique and renovated furniture, which together create a calm and serene ambiance. The room is furnished with two plush two-seater sofas, a refurbished vintage coffee table and dresser, a woodburner effect electric stove, and a 65inch Smart TV - with a Netflix and Amazon account provided - for a cinema-style experience. The two original stone-framed windows provide a view over the High Street and across to the towering trees in the grounds of Fairford House. In front of the central window is a delightful vintage armchair, with plenty of cushions, and beautiful reading lamps made from reclaimed driftwood to either side.

Second Floor

A carpeted staircase with a handrail leads up to:

Bedroom One:
The chalky blue walls and harmonising taupe accents of this bedroom create a tranquil and relaxing space to rest your head. The bedroom is furnished with a super king-size bed (can be made up as a twin on request), with bedside tables and reading lamps with USB points. A full-length mirror, a chest of drawers with a mirror over, a hanging rail and comfy armchair finish off the room to a very high standard. A pair of Bank House robes and a hairdryer are provided for guests’ use. Through the beautiful original window is a fabulous view over the High Street and the countryside beyond.

Bedroom Two:
This south-facing bedroom is flooded with light, which accentuates the pretty sage green walls and golden yellow accents. The bedroom is furnished with two full-size, single beds (can be made into super king bed on request), with bedside tables and reading lights with USB points. The bedroom also has a hanging rail, a chest of drawers, a dressing table, with a makeup mirror and stool, and a full-length mirror. A pair of Bank House robes and a hairdryer are provided for guests’ use. Look through the original sash window over the ancient rooftops of Fairford.

Family Shower Room:
Located through a door off the landing, between the two bedrooms, is a compact and stylish family shower room, featuring a walk-in shower, with a hand-held shower head, a wash basin with a mirror and touch-control light over, a heated towel rail and a toilet. Guests are provided with complementary, beautifully scented British 100 Acre hand soap, shower gel and hand cream and can drift from bedroom to shower room in a cosy 4 Bank House bathrobe.

Landing Seating Area:
At the top of the stairs, immediately outside the bedrooms is a wide landing with a comfy armchair placed near the window, providing a tranquil spot to sit and read or simply contemplate the view of the courtyard and roof tops. A striking, very long, ornate mirror hangs over the staircase, affording the perfect place to check you’re ready to head out for the day.

4 Bank House has a delightful, enclosed, garden with a patio and pergola, under which is a bistro-style table and four chairs. A long path, lined with lavender bushes, leads from the garden gate to the entrance door. During the summer months enjoy the delicious fragrance of the lavender and the gentle sound of bees buzzing. As the light falls, sensor lighting will guide you along the path.

Fairford is a small, historic market town that sits on the beautiful River Coln, a tributary of the Thames that joins England’s great river just outside Lechlade. The Coln’s peaceful setting attracts walkers and fly fishermen and women from far and wide. Fairford is perhaps best known for the annual Fairford International Air Tattoo - billed as the world’s greatest air show, attracting aircraft from over 25 nations from around the world, and thousands of spectators – but there’s much more to this market town than the air show. The area is surrounded by beautiful river- and lake-side scenery, providing plenty of opportunities and places to explore on foot, by bike or by car. Nearby Lechlade has easy access to the Thames Path National Trail, with circular walks from it, and both towns are ideally located to explore the Cotswold Water Park with all its water activities, cycle paths and walks.

Fairford is within easy reach of Bath, Oxford, Cirencester, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Swindon and is easily reached via the M4 and M40 and is an easy 2.5-hour drive from central London.
