Located in the picturesque Cotswold village of Winchcombe, Sudeley Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in the UK. Dating back to the 10th century, Sudeley has a vibrant and illustrious history and is one of the few castles in England that is still a private residence. A sense of moving with the times while protecting its history and legacy is very much at the heart of Sudeley’s ethos today.
The estate offers 17 holiday lets which are exclusive to us. Most are situated in their own private ‘village’ on Castle Street, just off the main high street of Winchcombe, and are only a few paces away from the amenities while also being peacefully located on the edge of green fields. A direct footpath takes you to the castle, and guests staying at the properties enjoy complimentary entrances to Sudeley Castle & Gardens, during the open season, and excluding ticketed events. Don’t worry – a couple of the cottages are dog-friendly, so your four-legged friends can enjoy the central Cotswold location as well.

This 18th century refurbished cottage is located in Winchcombe and provides a brilliant base to explore the area. Lady Ashcombe has personally selected works of art and furniture to bring the history and character of the cottage to life, with some items directly from the Sudeley Castle collection.
Almsbury Farmhouse

This is the largest property of the Sudeley estate with a main farmhouse and separate self-contained annexe. It boasts unique period features, including hidden staircases and surprise rooms, while containing modern appliances to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible. It is ideal for those looking for a bit more space.
Anne Boleyn

This pretty cottage is named after Henry VIII’s second wife, Anne Boleyn, who spent a week at Sudeley Castle with her husband in 1535. It is part of a terrace, between Queen Mary and Lord High Admiral, so is ideal if a larger group would like to holiday in separate properties for privacy, while being close to one another.

This is a beautifully decorated and furnished historic, Cotswold stone country cottage, formed from the renovation and joining of two buildings, one built in the 18th century and the other built in the 19th century. It is only a short walk from Winchcombe and the quaint garden runs down to Beesmoor Brook.

Being the former gatekeeper’s house, marking the entrance to Sudeley’s grounds, this property is very much your own miniature castle. The unique design offers symmetrical structure in both the rooms and the gardens, with beautiful furniture pieces inside which include an impressive four-poster bed.

This apartment cottage is named after King Charles I, who took refuge at Sudeley Castle after his failed siege of Gloucester during the English Civil War. It is a cosy property inside with a shared decking area outside with George III and Prince Rupert.
Emma Dent

Named after Emma Dent (née Brocklehurst), who started the restoration of Sudeley Castle in the 19th century, there is a real sense of history about this pretty, light and airy cottage. It is to Emma Dent that we owe the splendour of Sudeley Castle as it stands today. For almost half a century she dedicated her life to it, building the Jubilee Buildings of the West Wing, the North Tower, the two gate lodges and the present entrance to the Estate, as well as laying out the gardens, including planting the magnificent yew hedges. This beautiful cottage is arranged over two floors, overlooking the woods.
George III

This apartment cottage is named in memory of King George III, who came to visit Sudeley Castle on several occasions in the late 18th century. The property is converted from the old forge and shares a decking area with Prince Rupert and Charles I, with each apartment having its own seating area.
Lady Jane Grey

This property is named after Lady Jane Grey, who lived at Sudeley Castle before her brief nine-day reign as Queen of England. This lovely cottage was originally part of a paper mill, which was restored to make two cottages, Lady Jane Grey and Princess Elizabeth, and two apartments, St. Kenelm and Oliver Cromwell, preserving the original exposed walls and beams throughout. St. Kenelm sits directly above Princess Elizabeth and Oliver Cromwell sits directly above Lady Jane Grey.
Lord High Admiral

This cottage is named after Lord High Admiral, one of the official titles conveyed upon Sir Thomas Seymour by King Edward VI. It is a charming, semi-detached cottage and one of the most recent to be restored and converted. It is attached to Anne Boleyn.
Oliver Cromwell

Named after one of Sudeley’s most notorious figures, who ordered much of the destruction of Sudeley Castle towards the end of the English Civil War. Oliver Cromwell is a lovely, bright apartment which is arranged over two floors, situated above the Lady Jane Grey property.
Prince Rupert

This apartment cottage is named after Prince Rupert of the Rhine, a nephew of King Charles I, who commanded the Royalist cavalry during the English Civil War and made Sudeley his headquarters. The property is converted from the old forge and shares a decking area with George III and Charles I, forming a complete terrace.

This cottage is named after Princess Elizabeth, who visited the castle on several occasions and who would later in her life become the infamous Queen Elizabeth I of England. This semi-detached cottage is named after Queen Mary (the wife of King George V), who visited the Dent-Brocklehurst family at Sudeley Castle in 1944. It is joined with Anne Boleyn and has breath-taking countryside views.

Over its vivid and expansive history, Sudeley Castle has played host to many of England’s reigning Queens, from Anne Boleyn to Queen Elizabeth. Named in commemoration of all its regal visitors of the past, Queens Cottage is an elegantly converted old engine house that offers guests an open-plan cottage experience. It is a detached property with a raised patio area to enjoy.
St. Kenelm

St. Kenelm was a member of the royal family of Mercia, a boy king and martyr, who was murdered by an ambitious relative. His body was transported by the Monks of Winchcombe to become a major shrine. This apartment is arranged over two floors, situated above the Princess Elizabeth property.

Only a five-minute walk from the castle and gardens, it is furnished throughout with beautiful antiques, paintings, ornaments, and an impressive collection of books chosen by Lady Ashcombe (whose office and studio are located at the rear of the cottage).
