Favourite reviews of 2021

Posted: Fri, 17th Dec 2021

It’s easy enough for us to wax lyrical about our favourite holiday cottages throughout the Cotswolds, but the most honest opinions always come from our guests and what they write in their reviews. Here are a few of our favourite Bolthole Retreats reviews from 2021, and who knows, maybe you’ll find inspiration for your next Cotswold holiday.

Barebones Farm

Winchcombe

Sarah stayed in July: “What an amazing place to stay! Beautiful house and garden, perfectly located in the village for pubs, restaurants, and groceries. We could not fault it and would thoroughly recommend a stay here! Would definitely go back.”

Browns Cottage

Charlbury

Frances stayed in May: “Gorgeous cottage in a fantastic location, great for Blenheim Palace and the Cotswolds in general. Fantastically furnished and so cosy! Highly recommend and cannot wait to stay again!”

Church Cottage

Burford

Lesley stayed in August: “We had a wonderful time at Church Cottage. The location was perfect to walk to nearby restaurants for meals and to explore local attractions. The house itself was bursting with character and I loved the Everhot stove to cook on and the Victorian clothes dryer. The house had everything we needed with great Wifi and Sky being a bonus for our teenagers. The beds were very comfortable, and the house was very clean. We enjoyed family meals around the large dining table and the courtyard outside with a view of the church was unique! All in all, we had a wonderful week: thank you for a lovely stay!

Court Cottage

Painswick

Georgina stayed in September: “Wow! What an incredible place, this house is picturesque, homely, and comfortable. They were great hosts who provided awesome recommendations. The house is great for larger groups and the location was perfect, a short stroll to the local pubs! Painswick is a beautiful town, well worth a visit! Thanks for having us, would recommend to friends and family.”

Holly Cottage

Coln St Aldwyns

Dean stayed in September: “House is absolutely stunning! The surrounding area is one of the most exciting and beautiful in the UK. Easy check-in, amazing amenities, comfortable, stylish, and cosy! We will definitely be staying here again. Thank you so much!

Lily Cottage

Great Tew

Oli stayed in November: “Perfect. Loved it. I spent three days alone writing by the fire. It’s filled with great books and interesting things. There’s a pub about thirty seconds away. Soho Farmhouse is five minutes down the road. Decent shower. Nice Aesop products. It felt like my own little boutique hotel. Will 100% be booking again next time I need to get loads of uninterrupted writing done. Thank you.”

Old Fox Cottage

Bretforton

Adàn stayed in December: “We cannot thank you enough for making our stay at the Old Fox Cottage such a lovely and memorable experience. Without any doubt the best hosts ever! The cottage is super beautiful and very tastefully decorated, it is full of lovely touches, generously supplied and spotlessly clean. We felt at home from the very first minute! We absolutely recommend the Old Fox Cottage, our stay there was like a dream come true!

Outbak Shepherds Hut

Winchcombe

Hayley stayed in September: “Wow what a place! Really enjoyed our two nights – wish we stayed a little longer! A lot easier than we had imagined to find. Dave was very welcoming and helped with any recommendations or questions that we had. Very clean, the hot tub was a great addition and was ready for us when we arrived. Enjoyed exploring the nearby towns such as Winchcombe, Broadway, and Bourton-on-the-Water. The farm shop had pizza night which was about a 15-minute walk away. The Pheasants Inn had really lovely food too. Will definitely be back! Thank you.”

Bothy

Bibury

Rebecca stayed in June: “Myself and my partner had a lovely stay at the Bothy! It’s in such a beautiful area and such lovely walks in Bibury and surrounding areas. It’s easy to get to other areas to explore. The hosts are very helpful and lovely to speak with and provide great advice and tips for the area. The accommodation itself is beautiful and there’s such a feeling staying in such an old building renovated to such a high standard. We would definitely return again!

Quail House

Sandford St Martin

Tacita stayed in October: “We had a wonderful long weekend in the beautiful Quail House. So much thought and detail has gone into making this house such a perfect escape haven! We had a fantastic reunion of friends’ weekend, long overdue and it felt like a home from home. A few of us are Soho Farmhouse members, so this worked wonderfully to utilise all the facilities at the farm, but actually have your own space to properly relax and enjoy a cosy night in and a chilled morning all around the breakfast table! It’s only an eight-minute drive to the farmhouse and the taxi home, when we all wanted to drink, was £15 and super easy to organise! It was so good to get out of the city and enjoy a super luxurious weekend away! We noticed all the detail of Soho home interiors, crockery etc! We loved it all. Super taste and lovely touches from the owner’s travels! Can’t recommend enough! We are already aligning diaries for the return!
