Posted: Thu, 30th Jan 2025

Longleat Winter Wonders Week

Make your children’s dreams come true with a trip to Longleat. Your little monkeys and tireless tigers will adore the drive through safari, racing through the hedge maze and gazing in wonder at the animals that live here. During February Half Term get your snow boots on for Winter Wonders Week, a brrrrrilliant time for the family. Step inside a life size snow globe with a blizzard of snow and zoom down the inflatable toboggan slide. A day here feels like you’ve run off to the North Pole! Children over five can try their hand at snowboarding on the simulator or if you’re feeling crafty you can decorate cookies, make snowflake suncatchers or a snowman bookmark.

Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm

Looking for an affordable day out that will keep every child happy? Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm is an unforgettable experience and at half term there’s even more than usual going on. Alongside the soft play, woodland playground, animal fishing and duck feeding there’s a comedy magic show and the Paw Patrol characters are there to teach you the Pup Pup Boogie and meet their fans. What else could your little ones need? Children of all ages will find something they’ll love here and don’t worry, parents can also have a great time at the Bluestone Vineyard where you can book a sip and stroll tour. Think of it as a reward for making it through Dry January… this may just be the ultimate family friendly thing to do in Wiltshire!

Drive-Tech at Castle Combe Circuit

Want to feel the rush of adrenaline on a family friendly day out? A day at the Castle Combe Circuit has everything an adventurous family is looking for and the kids will still feel the buzz when they have to go back to school. Get everyone together for a muddy 4×4 ride where the adults can drive the kids around the bumps and climbs of the muddy track. Much more fun than playing the family taxi driver! Older children can have their own experience behind the wheel learning top racing skills on the kart circuit. Completing driving and braking exercises it’s a great way to build their confidence and at the end of the day everybody leaves with their racing times so be ready for some friendly sibling rivalry!

Jungle Parc Lydiard

Lose yourself amongst the trees at the Jungle Parc high-wire course at Lydiard House and Park. This stunning location has over 260 acres to explore with relaxing walks, picnics, a beautiful walled garden and majestic lake. In the middle of this the peace and quiet is broken with the excited screams of children and adults flying along super-fast zip lines. Let out your best Tarzan rooooooar as you swing from the branches and don’t worry if it’s your first time, the course is spread over several levels for varying difficulties. There’s a course for children over four and another for adults and over ten’s, providing the perfect family friendly day out – height restrictions apply.

Cottages in Wiltshire

Stonehenge

If you’ve got some history buffs in the family, a trip to Stonehenge must be on the list. One of the most popular attractions in Wiltshire, the ancient stone circle gives children the chance to step back in time. After being awed by its construction, you can see if you’ve got the strength to pull one of the ancient stones, how did they get these stones standing without cranes? Gather around the fire inside a neolithic house and hear stories of how people lived thousands of years ago from the friendly volunteers. During half term the History Makers event really brings the past into focus. Learn how archaeologists reconstruct the faces of our ancestors and give it a go for yourself.

Bike and Canoe Hire at Bradford on Avon

If the children are still raring to go, hiring bikes is a great family-friendly way to spend time together, and don’t worry, electric bikes are available too if you want a leisurely ride. Starting in Bradford on Avon there are miles of traffic free cycling routes to follow along the canal and the team at TT Cycles provide maps and give recommendations before you head off. Spot ducks as you rush along, passing the canal boats and stopping off for some food along the way. If you fancy spending some time on the water instead, hire a Canadian canoe from The Lock Inn before a hearty lunch.
