2020’s top 12 Cotswold holiday cottage reviews

Posted: Mon, 21st Dec 2020
Bedroom, Cotswold Cottage, Coln St Aldwyns

Despite the incredibly turbulent and challenging year we have all had, we have welcomed many guests to our beautiful Cotswold cottages during 2020, with nearly all leaving fabulous reviews. Clearly there have been far too many reviews to show you here, so we have posted 12 of our favourites below… from the smallest property – a shepherd’s hut – through to a ‘cottage’ that sleeps 12. We hope you enjoy reading these wonderful reviews and that they inspire you to come and stay as soon as possible in 2021!

1. Paul wrote of the Shepherd’s Hut

“We had a delightful stay at the Shepherd’s Hut. The location is beautiful and the view from the property is mesmerizing. Plenty of animals to see at the farm, you can have a walk down the river or just explore the surroundings. For local attractions you can visit Bath or Bristol which are roughly 15-20 minutes drive away from there. We’ll definitely revisit this hidden jewel in the future.”

2. Clare wrote of Tythe Barn

“We had the most incredible and relaxing stay. The highlights were the living room area and hot tub, which was heated and actually very hot! Was amazing in the winter cold. The wood burning fire was also a total treat. Oh and the goats/chickens/Blue the dog. The hosts were all very helpful and friendly and we felt very looked after. (Even though they leave you alone and it’s private, there’s always someone around to be cheerful and help you in an instant). Thank you for such a wonderful stay, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to everyone.”

3. Florence wrote of Cotswold Cottage

“We couldn’t have had a nicer stay at Cotswold Cottage. The space was cosy, clean and well equipped and we really appreciated the thoughtful touches. The bedrooms were very comfortable and we loved the amazing spa-like bathroom! The area itself was absolutely perfect, lots of beautiful surrounding countryside for walks and great pubs very close by. We’re really glad we chose this property for our holiday and we would definitely return in the future.”

4. Leah wrote of Bellhouse

“This is such a beautiful place to stay. It is a wonderful blend of grand and cosy. The rooms are all beautiful but the dining room in particular is a wonderful space to enjoy family and special meals. The facilities were great. The kitchen is very well equipped. We all wished we could have stayed longer and will be trying to arrange another trip.”

5. Carol wrote of Appletree Cottage

“My stay at Appletree cottage was incredible. The cottage is beautiful, cosy, well cleaned, well equipped. The location is superb. Bourton-on-the-Water is such a treasure. Communication was fast and responsive. These three weeks were unforgettable. I hope I will be able to be back soon.”

6. Sze wrote of Kingfisher Cottage

“We spent an amazing weekend at Kingfisher Cottage just before the second national lockdown. The cottage has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, very spacious with an amazing river view and a great variety of kitchen equipment for cooking and baking. Excellent location, very close to the town centre and next to many walking tracks. Super friendly hosts, highly recommend this cottage!”

7. Helen wrote of Lovell Cottage

“Beautiful cottage with excellent amenities. Old Minster Lovell village is stunning and the perfect place to escape from it all. The cottage was beautifully designed and decorated and very comfortable. Stunning large kitchen with great selection of kitchen equipment and table was set for our arrival. The cottage overall was very clean and spacious.”

8. Natalie wrote of 27 Horsefair

“Fabulous stay in a lovely place. We had a great time at 27 Horsefair – the cottage was just absolutely perfect and very clean, we especially loved using the fireplace! It was beautifully decorated, had everything you need and also located within a 5-minute walk to the town where there are lots of things to do and see, as well as an abundance of great pubs. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a trip to the Cotswolds! Thank you very much!”

9. Darryl wrote of Castle Gatehouse

“We spent a rainy week at Sudelely Castle Gatehouse, but the rain didn’t dampen the spirits whilst staying in this amazing place. On arrival we had been left drink facilities, milk and biscuits and the gatehouse was very welcoming. The welcome pack was very comprehensive and had all of the information we could possibly need. The property was incredibly well equipped and we wanted for nothing. It has a fabulous kitchen with everything you could possibly need. Beds were very comfy, always hot water available and the showers were great. Can not fault the place, and would definitely recommend.”

10. Marie wrote of Hyde Tyning Cottage

“A truly relaxing stay in a beautiful and very well appointed family house. It is as though being invited to come and stay in someone else’s loved, well appointed and well cared for home. It has a beautiful Cotswolds rural setting, with some horses and cows in fields beyond, as well as local farm fresh produce in a charming old market town only a short stroll away. The two separate living areas and the spacious modern kitchen with its large separate entry and utility room were particularly appreciated. Everyone can come together, or stay apart to perhaps read or work, as they please. The property ticks all the boxes. It’s very clean with comfortable sofas and beds. The pot-belly fire places added extra comfort on cold November days. The condition of everything is excellent, as is the hospitality of the hosts. It was a relaxing stay away and we look forward to visiting again.”

11. Lesley wrote of New Church Cottage

“This is a lovely well furnished and equipped property. We visited in early December and were delighted to find Christmas decorations, including a Christmas tree and flowers in the kitchen. It is just this level of attention to detail that makes the property very special. The kitchen had everything we needed, and was by the far the best of any rental properties we’ve stayed in both here and abroad. It felt like you were staying at home. The property was scrupulously clean, the bedding and soft furnishings sumptuous. I would thoroughly recommend New Church Cottage.”

12. Stacey wrote of Walkley Wood

“A cosy beautiful little retreat close to some gorgeous little shops. Great kitchen with a Nespresso machine and everything you might need to cook with. Cosiest comfiest bed ever upstairs. Great log burner perfect for the chilly evenings.”
